Result: I actually tried to mount this with the washers under the screw heads until I realized that the bottle would rub on the elevated screw heads. Place the washers where they belong, against the frame, and you will have a vibration-free install and a thing of beauty. Space age or not, the thing is only polymer. One could possibly over tighten and damage it. I did not. The washers compress considerably, requiring increasing torque, and function as lock washers as well as vibration dampeners. I also bought the matching SKS water bottle. The two pieces work very well together. The cage holds the bottle securely while riding. The bottle is easy to insert and remove, even while riding.
