Review: predrill required - Made a noticeable difference in lateral movement in two of my pergolas, both identical 10x10x10 and both without knee braces (1/3 of the 6x posts buried and encased in concrete). After completing one of them I was able to compare side-by-side on whether or not it made a difference when I pushed on the corner of each pergola. I'm in an area prone to hurricanes so the hurricane ties and a few nails didn't seem like they would be enough. One thing for the installer to note, it says no predrill required on the box, but it definitely needs pre-drilling. They come with lag screws that are not self tapping and they have thick shafts which are bound to split your box store 2x board.

Made a noticeable difference in lateral movement in two of my pergolas, both identical 10x10x10 and both without knee braces (1/3 of the 6x posts buried and encased in concrete). After completing one of them I was able to compare side-by-side on whether or not it made a difference when I pushed on the corner of each pergola. I'm in an area prone to hurricanes so the hurricane ties and a few nails didn't seem like they would be enough. One thing for the installer to note, it says no predrill required on the box, but it definitely needs pre-drilling.
