Owon VDS1022 USB Oscilloscope 2x 25 MHz 100MS/s

Like most truly useful and versatile tools there is a learning curve I'm just beginning to climb. I got it plugged in, set up and calibrated ok with only minor glitches. This may be software related. I run Linux on my laptop and the third party port of the user interface has not been as thoroughly debugged as what ships with the unit for use on Windows or Mac. More likely it's just user error and will go away as I develop a better understanding of what I'm doing.I had to drop a star for portability, not because of any fault with the unit, but simply because it needs to be paired with some sort of computer. I'm sure eventually somebody will develop an android app, allowing it to be linked with a smart phone or touch pad and external battery for a compact and portable unit.As long as it is used with a laptop running off of battery or a two wire non-grounded power supply it operates as a "floating" unit and the lack of usb ground isolation is irrelevant. This gives a nice discount from the more expensive 1022(i) model. This is the least expensive scope of it's type that does the signal processing on internal hardware, using the usb mainly for power and low bandwidth communication to the computer running the display application. It's a real usable tool offering the best deal I've found for the money.

For the price, if your looking for an o-scope with general needs, this may be just fine. However, the noise it produces because its not the isolated USB model, you cannot view very low voltage captures and needs to be in a very low noise environment. The software was probably better than others, however its still very poorly done and all of the manufactures continue to neglect putting enough time and effort into their USB o-scopes software. Currently still not Windows 10 compatible, although I was able to get it to work for a couple sessions and then quit completely. The measuring data was extremely out of calibration, even so i ran the calibration tool over and over.The thing I was happy with was the probes the unit came with.
