Good product - updated
These fit perfectly on my HUGE pup! Couldn't believe he takes a large - he's 130 lbs! That's a testament to the wide ranges of sizes that are offered though. My pup and I go exploring all week but we take especially long hikes on the weekends. I just moved to New Hampshire for school (we are California natives) and I don't want to hurt his paws when he go through long hikes in the snow. This last weekend we summited Mount Pierce (a 4000 footer in the White Mountains) and they stayed on the whole time. They took a bit of readjusting because they kept turning around (after barreling through sometimes a few feet of snow) but it wasn't too often and for the most part they worked perfectly. I was very satisfied!UPDATE: the Velcro came unraveled after this first hike (I found while putting on him the second time). Also, they get turned around on him a lot so I'm always readjusting on our hikes. Still seem to be the best available though and I am still a fan.

Definitely recommend as traction boot
I have rated some other brands of dog boots on Amazon. Over the years I've had 2 elderly dogs who needed help with traction in the house so I have I've tried several kinds. These are the best. Here's why:1- The soles are suede instead of rubber so they are much more flexible comfortable for the dog. (Probably not good in wet or snow but we are in warm, dry climate).2- The top is lightweight nylon so they aren't heavy for an arthritic dog. They must be breathable because I've never noticed any sweaty paws.3- They are less stiff are the easiest to get on of the many brands I've tried (tho none are especially easy).4- Best part is that they STAY ON. Every other brand I've tried did not stay on as well. Other brands also spun around on the dog's foot so that the (top) slippery side ended up under the paw which made getting up and down even more difficult. These rarely do that.5- Bright color - seems like a little thing but it makes locating them a snap.6- The only negative about the light color, and not enough to keep me from buying another pair, is they don't stay sparkly new looking forever. Eventually they show the dirt even after washing but you have to look close. But ours really take a beating. My dog is large and wears the heck out of them - inside the house and outside. They are still in great shape just getting dingy. They have helped her maintain independence - she can get up and own on slippery floors by herself with these boots on and they stabilize her on slippery surfaces when she walks. Definitely recommend for elderly dogs.

Would not recommend for smaller breed dogs
The only thing I have to rate about this product, is it's ability to stay on my dog's paws. The material itself looks to be decent and well made, but I wouldn't know how well it actually holds up because I can't keep it on my dog. I did the research and found this size to be the best fit for my dog. She is a 30-35lb female dog with thin legs (whippet/greyhound type) who has never had any sort of booties on her paws before. Naturally, she walks awkwardly but never attempts to take them off. She doesn't pull at them or bite them. She simply walks with her legs kind of shooting up and to the side. This causes the booties to slip and eventually, after walking about 10ft, come off. I have tried wrapping it as tight as it can go and as many times around as I can. It doesn't work. The problem is the sleeve is just not form fitting enough. Maybe if it were tighter, or had extra adjustments, perhaps straps at the top, it would hold on better. If you have a big dog, this might fit. I would order a size smaller than recommended, for the reason that it may just not stay in place. My dog's paws fit more than comfortably inside, but I can only speak for myself and my dog. I was very excited for this product to come in, as my dog loves to be outside even in the snow, but unfortunately it just did not fit the way it mentioned it would and that is a big turn off for me.I would not recommend this product based on my experience with the fitting.

good but not great
BOTTOM LINE: Good quality boots that don't slip off (if they're the right size) but there is too much extra material to make them ideally snug, and though the leather soles keep your dog's paws safe from hot pavement, they're too thin to provide ideal protection and may tear if worn often.SIZINGThe only question here at Amazon refers to sizing. It's interesting because I had the owner of Muttluks on the phone and when I asked her the dimensions of the small bootie, she didn't know the answer and said her sizing chart doesn't need to be improved.Muttluks makes a big deal on their website about making sure the fit is "snug" but they do not take into account the width of a dog's paw; only the length. This means the boots are relying on the Velcro strap to make them snug, which means the bootie is cinching a fair amount of extra material (from the width) that doesn't need to be there and makes walking more of a chore. There is also more material length-wise, depending on the size of your dog's paws and where they fit in the range given on their sizing chart. My dog has tripped a few times on uneven pavement. The small, all-weather bootie is 3" wide at its widest point (near the heel), 2" wide near the top, where it tapers and then becomes narrower. The part that covers the paw is just over 3" long (from the Velcro strap to the tip). The entire length is just over 6.5". The soft part of the bootie that rises over the ankle is 2.25" wide and stretches to 4" and contracts right back (this is a good thing). The Velcro strap is much longer than the diameter of my dog's paw and there is no place to tie it to so it literally sticks out.PROS-Quality materials, sewn well-If you get the right size, they won't fall off your dog's feet (unless you didn't cinch them well); this is true due to the Velcro strap and the booties going up high on your dog's leg.-On hot pavement, the leather underside does get warm but the temp inside the bootie is not hot (I checked).-Easy to put on, easy to slip off.-The Velcro works well and cinches as tight as you want it (extra long so you can cut it).CONS-Depending on the size of your dog's paw, there is a considerably wide gap, width-wise, depending on your dog.-If your dog's paws are on the smallest part of the range given for the bootie's length, that's even more extra material and less of a snug fit.-All four boots are the same size but my dog's paws are not (front paws are bigger than back paws). To be fair, the only booties I've looked into are made this way but how hard is it to allow for different sizing? My dog's front paws are 1.75" wide and 3" long. Her back paws are 1.5" wide and 2.5" long. Looking at the dust imprints left on the soles of the shoes, her paws walk at the front of the bootie, where its narrower, and there is a 1" gap on three sides of the bottom of her paws; that's 3" of extra material.-The leather sole gets warm when it's hot outside. It would be nice if this part was reinforced so it's less likely to tear and less likely to change the temp on my dog's foot. It's not; it's one piece.-It's hard to size your dog with their sizing chart because it is so vague. I cut my dog's toenails before sizing.

Fall apart after a few uses
I was expecting much more from a branded Muttlucks product. I have a large size for my wheaten and they cost the same and are excellent and he has been wearing them for a few months. These ones my westie has worn maybe ten times - the foot pad stitching is coming off and so the foot pads are coming away from the main boot. These pads are not only protective against cold and the ground but give grip to the paws. Also, the velcro straps have threads loose that come off and I have to rip off because they are in the way every time I put the boot on otherwise I can't get the boot open to put the paw in. This is a defective product and it wouldn't surprise me if they are not made by Muttluks as I have had the exact same boots in black bought at a store and they are still intact after two years.

Great quality, at a great price
1st WINTER REVIEW:These are my 3rd brand of dog shoes so far. I've used them all winter and they are still in great shape. My 70 pounds Doodle is quite active out there and they fell off maybe once or twice, but it was because I had put them on not tight enough.A lot of reviews talk about the boots falling off often, but you just need to buy the right size and tight them just enough so they will stay on, but not too much to avoid constricting your dog's blood flow.Pros:+ With a good fit, they won't fall off+ Made from sturdy materialsCons:- The velcro on the boots won't last more than 2 years. I'm pretty sure the boot will still be in good shape by then.Overall, great quality, at a great price.I'd buy them again.

Good design, issue with workmanship.
The boots are the best out of one that are available. We had set that after 3 years plus of use started to show wear.. I wend and bought new one for out german shepherd dog. The only issue I had was related to quality of the boots. After a week of use one of the boot top tread was totally off. I still love the design and perhaps QC have to be improved to ensure that poor workmanship is improved. That is why four stars, and perhaps would give only three but had such a good experience with this brand before.

Quite pleased
We're quite pleased with the product, so far. We just have to be sure that the ankle belts are pulled very tight to ensure they stay on. Otherwise, our dog does, yes, do the little paw-shaking routine at the outset; but only for a brief moment and then she's off without any evident awkwardness or discomfort. The only suggestion I would make to the manufacturer is to consider shortening the length of the Petite-size ankle belts, in keeping with the term, "petite". The length provided results is too much belt flapping free at the ends (easy enough to scissor off, I suppose, but not without losing the original, finished look).
