More great poetry from Amanda Lovelace
I enjoy modern poetry and Amanda Lovelace's work has been some of my favorite. Her new book "to drink coffee with a ghost" is a collection mainly inspired by her difficult relationship with her late mother . While Lovelace's work often touches on difficult and topics, it is beautiful, relatable and deeply poignant. She uses poetry as a way to work through the things she's dealt with in life, and while my own experiences are different from the author's I found it relevant and believe it could be for anyone who is dealing with or has dealt with loss and strained family relationship. Her poetry is raw and lyrical at the same time, and can be quite emotional to read.Usually I like to savor poetry and will leisurely flips through a book rather than reading it all at once However, I was lucky enough to be given this book as an advance review copy and read it straight through in an hour or so. But, let's be real; Lovelace's work and is compelling enough to devour in this way, though it is definitely something I will enjoy revisiting later. Thanks to Netgalley and Andrews McMeel Publishing for this ARC.

Use as a Daughter's Journey to Healing
I'm not usually a fan of modern poetry but this subject matter really spoke to me. Amanda's story with her mother is heartbreaking and often a major part of her poetry. I identify with having a challenging relationship with my own mother, to say the least. It was only in recent years that I enjoyed better communication, just to end up losing her.I found a need to turn to poetry again. It always aides me in the healing process. This book discusses grief, letting go, and forgiveness. It’s also heartwarming in the same book opening up both sides of the story. As someone that has left people behind, and been left behind, I found poems in here for myself. I'm happy to have made this purchase and recommend it.

Lovelace's Best and Most Haunting Work Yet
if you know me you already know i relate to this book. especially the ghost mother section. this spoke to me and my sad, lonely, loveless childhood in a way that not only said "you are not alone" but also "it will get better". this may actually be lovelace's best work yet. there's even a gilmore girls reference (and not just at the end but as prose). i have so much to say yet no words because i've only seen myself on a page like this once before and it feels so good to have it come from the person that inadvertently introduced me to modern poetry in the first place.

Not everyone's story
This is a mixed review because it is not everyone's story and then everyone might be able to relate. Sad for sure. True, probably which makes it more sad. It's well written and deep. People who write deep poetry will certainly appreciate it but once again, it is not for everyone. My advice would be to read a few pages before purchasing to get an idea.

Favorite poet wrote another book!
As everything Amanda Lovelace writes is amazing, so is this! It’s one I can connect with but not on the level of Princess which is my favorite poetry book! Her writing is good and self care is recommended. Her story with her mother is heartbreaking and often a major part of her poetry, this one is no different discussing grief, letting go and, forgiveness. It’s also heartwarming in the same book opening up both sides of the story.

Nicely Written
I bought this for my best friend for christmas, she ended up reading it to me while we ate christmas dinner. It is an awesome book and it hit a subject both myself and my friend could relate to a lot. A must have if you love this author.

perfect for spooky season
a touching and unsurprisingly beautiful collection yet again from Amanda! this one comes right on the heels of Halloween- tarot cards, ouija boards, ghostly vibes and coffee help thread together this brutally honest mother-daughter story. Proud of Amanda and respect them for speaking their truth!

Good read
Just finished this book a few days ago. I found my dad deceased in 7/31/20, I could relate to the grief. The title itself is something that just stuck out to me, as we shared the same love for coffee. I enjoyed the book so much. Definitely would recommend it.

A beautiful book
I find myself constantly memorised by Lovelace's ability to reach the reader beyond the page. I knew I wanted to read her newest book 'to drink coffee with a ghost' once I'd heard it was coming out; as a child of an abusive parent, I relate so deeply to the words within these pages. As a fellow poet and someone hoping to one day reach readers wih the same impact, I am thoroughly impressed with how strong Lovelace's poetic voice has become and how beautifully she paints each poem as an imprint of a moment, emotion or person to last forever even when you turn the last page. Amanda is the poet I so wish to be. Thought provoking, magical and wonderful - as I start my degree in creative literature I know I'll be using her poems as strength and inspiration to keep on writing. I love this new book and it has total pride of place amongst my other collections.

To drink coffee with a ghost
