Very Effective, Gentle Peel and Great for Blemishes!
This is my second bottle. I wouldn't be without it for brown spots, zits, etc. I originally purchased this 5% salicylic for an odd (and to me, mysterious) skin condition--what seemed to be a thickening of the skin on some of the knuckles of one hand. It seemed to be just super-extreme dry skin, like mega rough elbows, almost like a callus. After trying at least a dozen moisterizers to no effect, I found an eczema gel-type lotion at the drugstore with 3% salycylic acid, applied it 5-6 times a day, and over about 10 days the area it was applied to began a gentle peel. Underneath was smoother, soft skin. But, the rough thickened skin began to "reform" within a couple of weeks, so I began looking for a stronger solution. The 5% liquid is perfect for my purposes! I can apply it with a Q-Tip, maybe three times a day, for a week, let it dry and never know it's there. I do not wash it off and have never experienced any soreness or a peeling effect that was overly aggressive. This is not a quick fix. The peeling effect takes more than a week to even begin. You may think that it's not doing anything, but have patience. I do not try to rush the process, just let the peel happen on its own naturally with bathing, handwashing, etc. Don't rub or scrub. If the peeling look bothers you--moisturize. I strongly advise against any "picking" as you could end up with soreness and sensitive areas. The peeling skin will come away when it's ready. Once the peeling starts, I moisturize, but nothing out of the ordinary. I had a brown spot, (liver spot, whatever you want to call it) on my hand near one of the affected knuckles, so decided to include the spot in the knuckle treatment. Over the course of 3 peels, the brown spot has vanished. Patience is key. Don't try to rush the process, or cure the problem in a single go round. With each subsequent peel my affected hand looks and feels better. I don't know if I'll need to do the peel again (I've done it 3 times in about six months), but I have found this product to be gentle and effective when used as I've described. After each peel my problem knuckles look and feel better and the effect is longer lasting. I wait at least a month in between peels for the "new" skin to normalize. I think eventually the problem will resolve with use of 5% salicylic. I'm not a medical person and wouldn't presume to advise anyone when they should or shouldn't be seeing a dermatologist. In my own case, I felt the dry skin on my hand was a benign condition and wanted to try a home cure before I spent money on doctor's visits and prescriptions. For me, it was the right and certainly more economical choice. This product is also great for stopping zits dead in their tracks. If applied when you first feel you might be getting a blemish, the spot vanishes overnight. Love it. Durmalure makes a great product and ships fast.

Salicylic Acid Peel 5% Acne Treatment
I really liked this product and thought the 5% Sal. Acid was great with minimal irritation. I'm using it as a spot treatment, prior to this purchase I have only used the Salicylic Acid 2%. Caution: it does burn a bit, but worth it. As soon as you see a pimple developing, you must apply this directly on the pimple and/or redness and the surrounding area. I recommend you use this at night before bed and leave it on until the morning and wash your face before and after. For more stubborn zits, apply in the day time (only as spot treatment and moisturize your face). You will see improvements the next day. I put this on a pimple that was forming and it was red and it was hurting, it was going to be one of those big zits that last for a week and I was so surprised that it cleared up the next day, but I kept applying it for the next 4 days just to make sure that it wouldn't come back -- it was a miracle. This is the highest level of acid that I have used, probably would never need to go higher. Dries skin, but exfoliation and moisturizer helps dryness. You can also use this as a peel all over your face and leave on for about 15 minutes and then rinse face thoroughly and you can use another product that contains Salicylic Acid with a lower percent like (Clear Zits 2%) as an spot treatment

works for rapid spot treatment
I used to believe that salicylic acid was just something that would not work for my skin. I have been afflicted with acne since I was a pre-teen. I have used it all short of accutane. Bottom line, I have tried prescription medications in addition to everything you'd be familiar with over the counter. I really like this product and it works for my purposes. My acne has subsided a little as I have reached adulthood - this is something i use for spot treatments. I saturate a cotton ball and place it on the affected area for a few minutes before bed. If I am having a super bad overall breakout, then I will do a thin layer of this all over my face and leave it on. I tend to use this as a spot treatment because I have noticed that it dries the skin out quite a bit. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE if you are going to use this product, remember to do a test patch and make sure you are not allergic and so you don't (chemical) burn your skin off. I started with a a few minutes at a time before rinsing off after knowing my skin could take it, I would just spot treat. If you cannot commit to wearing sunscreen everyday, do not use this. Seriously. You will do more damage to your skin if you put this on and forget to apply sunscreen as this is an exfoliant. If you forget sunscreen, you will do more damage to your skin than acne would ever do. Overall, I would recommend this product, but be smart about it - expect some dryness and don't have unrealistic expectations.

I had very good results.
I am very pleased with the results. I use a dropper with this salicylic acid. I put some Clean & Clear Dual Action Moisturizer in the palm of my hand and add 6 drops of the salicylic acid. After I mix the two with the tip of my finger, I apply to my face and neck. I like to put some vitamin C serum followed by a moisturizer on next. There was a mild flareup, but two weeks of use cleared up most of my adult acne, including blackheads. Without moisturizer, this product dries my skin out. I suggest those with more sensitive skin to start out with one or two drops added to moisturizer.

Stronger Than Expected
I had been using a 10% salicylic acid peel by Planet Eden. It was a great peel, producing mild peeling and noticeable results. I wanted to take a break from the 10% solution and thought this looked like a good option for maintenance. It's actually far stronger than the solution I had been using, producing frosting after only two minutes and causing more extreme peeling. Don't be fooled into thinking 5% means it's a mild peel. It's actually probably too strong for home use.
