Honest Prayer

Honest Prayer For openers . . . I am a student of John Shelby Spong . . . so my bias may be apparent. I found this book a refreshing introduction to prayer in my world . . . that is, today's world. This presentation called me to approach prayer today . . . now . . . rather than to use an approach dated in medieval times. I strongly suggest this book to anyone interested in exploring new dimensions to one'sprayer life. In my judgement, it would be an excellent resource for a multi-session exploration of prayer today.

Contemporary theologian, John Shelby Spong, gives his interpretation to Jesus' ideas that are reflected in a prayer we say daily. Written early in Spong's day as a theologian it is not only informational but also an easier read than some of his later works. Spong offers much for Christians to think about as we decider what we believe living in the 21st century

Honest Prayer is being in communication with God in silent time as both listener and petitioner. It is a guide to a relationship with God.

As with all of Spong's books I found it most enlightening.

Honest Prayer is an excellent explanation of how to pray a prayer today that was written in New Testament times.

A brilliant book, which goes a long way to explaining difficulties many of us have found with the various elements of th Lord's Prayer.
