Stitch-by-Stitch: A Stitch-by-Stitch Guide to Sewing and Needlecraft

The cover of this book caught my eye and I've given it a 4 out of 5 because I thought it was an applique book (from the cover) but it cover many different crafts including embroidery, cross stitch, knitting, crochet, applique, patchwork etc. I feel this is mainly a book aimed at young people (although if you were an absolute beginner you might find it useful as it has very clear instructions). I am more experienced and did find it rather basic but some of the ideas in the book like the felt flower broaches are simple but rather 'funky' and fun and would look great on a denim jacket! The front cover projects are also in this book and include a pin cushion, small bag and needlecase. The patchwork section includes a five-sided patchwork ball which would be a lovely present for a new baby. There's a crochet owl, crochet flowers, knitted roses, cross stitch pictures (very basic) and needlepoint stripy pouch (very basic). All the techniques are explained via clear pictures and words. This book would make a nice present for a young person interested in taking up crafts.

Lovely, simple and colourful projects to sew, knit and crochet. My girls are 7 and 9 and the three of us have been knitting over Christmas. I agree that it is really good for children, but I love Jane Bull's modern simple style, so I shall be adapting ideas from the book myself. It also offers simple guidelines and I plan to try my hand at crochet, which I have never fully mastered. We will be knitting dolls and taking inspiration from Jane Bull. She brings these these age-old crafts into the 21st Century.

This book is full of wonderful, practical ideas in getting children started but equally good for adults! My granddaughters are just reaching the age when I can share my love of sewing, crocheting and knitting and this book has given me the springboard from which to dive into sharing with them the delights I've enjoyed for most of my life. I'm an avid quilter but have seen ways to piece I didn't know about! Beautiful clear step by step instructions and I would have no hesitation in highly recommending this book.

This is absolutely the best book to teach a love of all kinds of needlework to children. It shows the very basics of knitting, crochet, embroidery, needle point and even hand sewing. Decorate your jeans with embroiders, a cute T-short decorated with buttons, dolls to make, animals to crochet, flowers to knit and the yo-yo necklace is really cute. I also bought a copy for my 11 year old neice who gets absolutely no help from anyone at home, she was able to follow the sequenced photos and figure out what she was doing wrong with her project. A GREAT RESOURCE!!

This is a great book that teaches many basics of a variety of crafts...crochet, knitting, embroidery...& ideas for using these skills. So much packed into one book!

Awesome book! It has how to tips to just about any needle craft activity you can think of. Knitting / Crochet / Embroidery / Patchwork / Appliqué / Tapestry / French Knitting. Just loves this book. Don't think I'll need another book as this provides all I need to do my needle crafts. Clear directions shown in easy to understand photo's. Lots of tips on what to use for your crafts. Feel good book.

My daughter loves it, but the knitting section leaves a bit to be desired. A supplemental lesson from YouTube was required. I think it could be more comprehensive.Highly recommended for beginners searching for an all-around crafting book.

One of the best kid's sewing books I have seen. Easy-to-read instructions and excellent, close-up pictures combine in harmony so beginners feel more sure of themselves. The book has handy tips and fun craft ideas. Highly recommended.

Beautiful book!

I got this book for one of my great grandchildren to help in teaching her hand sewing. She and my other grandchildren were very happy with the books I got for them...and doing very well with their sewing.

I did not read this book. It was a gift for a child in the family. If you want to know what it was really like, you would have to ask her. It was delivered on time and in good shape, if that helps you.
