A MUST HAVE FOR ANYONE WHO IS A DOG'S "PERSON"
I purchased this book Getting Started Clicker Training For Dogs by Karen Pryor because I am self-training my service dog. I am using it in conjunction with Sue Ailsby's Training Levels: Steps to Success Vol 1 and 2 from clean run dot com. This book is a MUST for anyone to understand and learn how to train ANY pet using ONLY positive reinforcement. No more yanking, pulling, punishing, manipulating, choke collars, etc. This will help you UNLEARN all the "dominance" and "pack leader" and NEGATIVE training methods you may have learned over the years. It will help you have a TRUE friend and TRUE partner - whether a pet or service animal.See also (in you local library?) Her book DON'T SHOOT THE DOG. And learn how to apply positive reinforcement not only to animals but to people too.GREAT little booklet. Short, to the point and fun.A must have in your personal library. It will open your mind. And make you a better person.

Disappointing
Well, simply put, it didn't contain anything helpful that I hadn't found on the internet. Disappointing because I was looking for in-depth help training my dog, and this book just had the basics. Use the Internet U-tube and you will get more information than what is in this book.

This book will solve so many troubles! 🐾
This is a clear direction book that has truly helped my family and others to positively work with our pet. My service dog was being ‘stubborn,’ so I thought... He was trained with this method and after I reviewed book, he was very happy to what to with me! He wasn’t being stubborn... it was ME.... 🐾

Great introduction to clicker training
I got to this book, or more specifically to Karen Pryor, while doing some research on training methodology effectiveness. I have never been comfortable with the idea of dominating an animal, so this just suits me best. If the training is equally as effective, and I don't have too act like a jerk, it's win for me.

Expensive for relatively little info
Like the book says you can find out everything you need about clicker training online for free. So why buy the book? It has some decent pictures but is not worth the money. Karen Pryor is legit but this book was a cash grab.

Basic, easy for beginners
As a Certified Fear Free veterinarian with a special interest in behavior medicine, clicker training is an easy way to get clients to mark desired behaviors in their pets. This book teaches the basics. There’s a lot more to it than what is here but understanding the basics is imperative before proceeding to more advanced training.

New Lab
Picked up out new 12week old Labrador who has been in a Program called Head Start for 4 weeks from Iowa Pointing Dogs. Only had her a couple days and I can tell you, this being my 4th Lab in over 30 years, she has learned Sit, Down, Heel, and come already. Can t wait to continue with her outside in the distraction setting.

Absolutely the best book for clicker training
I became a true believer in the power of clicker training, thanks to this book and the author's other available information on the internet. This book gives lots of examples for how to clicker train specific things. But it also gives a good flavor of the whole clicker training idea and it works! It really works to make your dog/puppy think and figure things out -- it actually is a way you can communicate 100% of the time with your dog. My golden retriever aims to please and this book is a great start on the subject of using a clicker.

I was recommended this by a fellow dog walker and immediately got on to Amazon, and I wasn't disappointed. Can't wait for my clicker to arrive. But I've been able to start to be more confident about dog training my 3 year old rescue labradoodle. She writes well and its easy to understand. I bought it for 1p and paid £2.80 postage. Worth every penny. Update.. Still waiting for the clicker but he's already making progress on listening to me and hes off the lead.xxxx

Good easy read
Good easy read. Covers the training method very fully - ideal if you just want the basics clearly laid out.For more information on animal training methods, including most of the detail in this book, buy "Don't Shoot The Dog" by the same author.... It's a very interesting, entertaining, enjoyable read, with loads of funny stories which really bring it to life.
