Q: How are the horns sourced? Are they taken from the animals post mortem?

Yes, of course. No animal is harmed for their horns, these are simply byproducts of the large water buffalo livestock trade in India. Cows are sacred in the Hindu religion, so they are not farmed in India like they are here in the US. Instead, they use water buffalo for their livestock and the horns are a natural by product of that. Over 4.4 million tons of water buffalo are farmed in India annually. Normally, the horns are ground up and used in livestock feed or fertilizer, we just happen to get a few and make cool crafts from them. Sorry for the long answer, but we get that question a lot, so hope it helps.

Q: How do you keep this clean?

I have hand washed it, with regular dish soap. It cleans up nicely, and doesn't seem to take on any of the soap.

Q: I just got one for xmas. Do they have to be hand washed or can they go in the dishwasher? Thanks.

Hand wash. They are made very well but the bottom of the mug is not a part of the horn so it could get ruined to the washer.

Q: How much does the XXL hold?

Depends on what you get...its best to get some foodsafe sealer for it because I've bought the coffee mug and XXL tankard and all including the coffee mug have eventually leaked and you'll never get a reasonable response time from them...their 99 year warranty is a lie so prepare accordingly though they do have nice products that are comparable to others around the same price range
