[Rec]4: Apocalypse

Totally loved this film, was way better than expected. Some reviewers don't seem to like it but each to their own liking. I thought it was way better than part 3 which, to me, was cheesy and like Cabin fever 2, stupid. For me Part 2 is the best followed by Part 1 then Part 4 and last and worst, Part 3. Lots of good gore in this one, great to see it properly follow on from Part 2 and it offered a decent conclusion but has left the door open for another sequel if it really wants to go there. I recommend this to fans of the franchise and if you're new to REC make sure to watch the first 3 although Part 3 is by far the worst.

This 2014 horror gore film is a direct sequel to REC 2 as we witness a new team placing explosive charges within the apartment building and rescuing Angela. The next thing, they wake up aboard a ship swarming with armed guards as the medical team try to find out if any are infected by the virus. Gradually the two SWAT team members and Angela try to figure it all out in similar vein to the previous ‘apartment block’ prequels.As with the other films in the franchise, this has plenty of gore and returns to the old style –which should please fans of 1&2, but lacks the tension of them. The atmosphere remains claustrophobic but somehow we don’t seem to connect any more. There’s also one survivor from REC 3 but no explanation on that [the Church survivors were actually killed getting on the coach, which we saw -and was mentioned in REC 3 deleted scenes.] but it’s not necessary to have seen any of the others as the plot is pretty standard horror fare, although it does flesh it out a bit.The problem with this is that it ‘s story offers nothing new [at least 3 departed widely from the others] but this just gives new scenery –for what its worth [lose a *]. There are some nice twists and turns and Manuela Velasco puts in another impressive turn as the hapless reporter Angela Vidal, but will she get out of this one? As a stand alone it would get ***** but as part of a successful franchise, I can only give ****, as it now lacks originality and the ending was a bit of a cop-out and cheap way to end it all.

I watched the original and enjoyed that. So as usual, I thought that the sequel may be a bit of a dissapointment. I was wrong. Enjoyed it from start to finish even though the budget must have been limited to the salary of the cast. Basically, it all happens within the confines of the ship, with veryb few, in fact no CGI needed. Just a bit of make up when necessary and a bit of imagination when needed has worked wonders and created a super bit of cinema. Great entertainment.

The original Rec and Rec 2 films were all made using handheld cameras and body/helmet cameras, which coupled with the Spanish-English subtitles, really made the films stand out amongst other horror films available - similar to the Blair Witch Project and Cloverfield.This film, I feel, really let its predecessors down as its not filmed with handheld cameras and overall feels sort of rushed, that they only have an hour and a half to wrap up what could have essentially become something similar to the Saw franchise.Although it does bring the series full circle [SPOILER] as you see what happens to the 'virus' [/SPOILER] which brings some closure to the films, it feels a bit empty, that the writers got greedy with the first two - which were budget films - becoming somewhat of a cult, and wanted to make more money over what I would say was almost artistic, or that they just needed to end the series. To me, it doesn't feel like much thought has gone in to it.The story is pretty basic and generic, it's easy to pick out who will become 'cannon fodder', some parts are a little far fetched (the monkey chase scene), the boat is apparently in the middle of a force 8 storm yet the seas are calm? Hmm.There are references to the third Rec film, which I haven't seen because of reviews of it being so poor, and going down a 'comical' route, but you don't have to watch the third for this one to make sense.Really, I suppose this could almost be self contained as it explains loosely what happened in the first two, and then a reference to a wedding and outbreak in Barcelona which is basically the third instalment.It is left open(ish) at the end, so there could be a fifth or even a spinoff, but if there is, I personally hope that it goes in the direction of the first two - handheld cameras, claustrophobic, dark, and a tonne of jump scares.TL/DR: watch if you want to bring the story full circle or if you've seen the first two/three, but don't expect magic.

I picked this up on Prime and was disappointed to see there were 3 films before this one not on Prime. Fortunately it doesn't matter. The story plays quite happily on it's own merit.It is what you would expect. Lots of gruesome monsters that were once men running around biting and infecting people while the main characters manage to fight them of while they search for a solution. Fast and furious, very gory and very good.

I am generally not a fan of subtitled films but the start was enough action for me to leave it on. I'm glad I did. A nice, fast paced horror with enough blood and gore to support a great story. Hope and predict that another comes out. Quite a few unexpected twists and turns aswell. Very enjoyable having not seen any of the previous ones.

I loved the first three, yes THREE, the third is a fantastic horror-comedy and people who slam it just don't like that it moved away from the template of the first two, but this one stinks.Where to start? The characters are dull and unsympathetic, I mean, who we supposed to be rooting for? The supposed bad guys just want to contain the virus so the whole world doesn't go to hell, boo hiss! The less said about the awful unspecial effects the better - That zombie monkey? I could've produced a more realistic creature with a tea towel and a couple of spoons. The ending is a gimme, I mean it's called Apocalypse, you work it out. Anyway, avoid.

In der Zeit von FSK und dem unendlichen Rumgeschnispel der FSK kommt hier ein Horrorfilm mit der Einstufung FSK-16. Ich dachte, ich traue meinen Augen nicht, denn Handlung, Spannung und Effekte haben ziemlich gute Qualität. Nach dem 3. Teil kommt man wieder "Back to the Roots" Richtung Teil 1 und 2.In diesem Fall verlagert man die typische Rec-Handlung auf die hohe See. Das Schiff und die Szenen durch die Gänge des Schiffes sind gut gemacht und haben ähnlich Wirkung wie der Film Virus. In diesem Fall ist nicht das Schiff infiziert, sondern die Patienten, die man aus Rec 1 - 3 aufgesammelt hat und nun an Ihnen experimentiert. Daher gibt es einige bekannte Gesichter zu sehen, die dem Film die typische Rec-Stimmung verleiht.Man hat auch ein wenig aus 28 days later übernommen und nun bekommt der Film noch einige kleine hübsch gemachte Affen zu sehen. Die vom Virus Befallenen wirken wieder sehr beängstigend real und verpassen dem Film ein schönes Horror-Feeling. Auch die Benutzung eines Aussenborder war eine nette neue Idee, wie man sich von ungebetenen Gästen befreien kann.Der Parasit und der Schluss sind wirklich Geschmacksache. Ich persönlich fand es nett und auch das Ende fand ich zum Film passend. Dieser Film war eine richtig nette Samstag-Abend-Horror-Unterhaltung, ohne sich unendlich über FSK-Schnitte zu ärgern. Wer Rec-Filme oder die 28 days later Filme mag, macht hier keinen Fehler bei der Auswahl. Es ist hier ein würdiger Abschluss einer guten Horrorreihe.

Es el Blu Ray Aleman de Rec 4. Viene con los menus y trailers en aleman, pero la película la puedes escuchar en perfecto castellano si selección la version original, que viene como opción 2 de audio. Puedes tener Rec 4 en castellano sin tener que esperar a finales de febrero. Viene con un Making Of de 30 minutos que también está en castellano. Buena compra.

(Siehe auch oben in diesem Thread).Aber nachdem für den vierten Teil der Regisseur/Drehbuchautor,Jaume Balagueró, verantwortlich ist, der an Teil1 und 2 mitgearbeitet, sich aber schon im Vorfeld von Teil 3 zurückgezogen hatte... wollte ich ihn doch unbedingt sehen.Die Vorfreude wurde dann wieder etwas durch die Einteilung in FSK16 getrübt. (Was sich auch im Verlauf bewahrheitete, einige der Zombiekill-/Splatterszenen hätten etwas mehr Härte vertragen, das hätte dem Film in seiner düsteren Grundausrichtung gut getan).Die Handlung schließt sich direkt an die ersten beiden Filme an, es gibt auch die ein oder andere Rückblende mit altem Material und auch mit (gut) hinzugedrehtem Material. Auf die Hochzeit, die ja parallel zu den ersten Filmen spielt wird am Rande auch eingegangen, eine überlebende verwirrte Frau, die früh auf ihr Zimmer ging hat den Ausbruch unifiziert überlebt und ist mit der geretteten Ángela und den zwei Überlebenden des Rettungstrupps auf einen alten russischen Frachter gebracht worden.Die Haupthandlung setzt auf hoher See ein. Nach und nach erfährt man Teile des Hintergrundes. Hier auch ein Kritikpunkt: Auf Teile des Hintergrundes wird dabei mehrfach eingegangen, andere bleiben unverständlicherweise unerwähnt. Auch ist die "Informationsverteilung" etwas komisch, will sagen: sie kommt bei mir nicht konsequent oder logisch an, so dass bei einigen Punkten (die (mögliche) Verwicklung der Kirche) an einigen Stellen der Eindruck entsteht: Das will Balagueró nicht thematisieren, nur damit es dann 10 Minuten später doch angesprochen wird...Der Film ist durchgehend düster, was sehr gut ist, krankt aber in der ersten Hälfte sehr an gezogenen Dialogen und gedoppelten Informationen. Es ist nicht wirklich uninteressant oder schlecht, aber an einigen Stellen fehlt der Drive. Auch sind die Motive einiger Personen entweder zu diffus oder zu platt für eine so lange Einführung.Es wird auch kein Klischee ausgelassen: Der alternde Kapitän, der dickliche Computernerd, der gestählte Marine, der fiese Wissenschaftler, der zweifelnde Wissenschaftler, der asiatische Schiffskoch, der dunkelhäutige Maschinist.... allesamt Abziehbildmäßig vorhanden.Genauso aus den Schubladen: Im großen Frachtraum ist ein gesichertes Labor eingerichtet, natürlich kommt der Frachter im Verlauf der Handlung in eine Schlechtwetterfront, Stromschwankungen und Ausfälle gab es aber auch vorher schon...Aber aus den ganzen Plattheiten des Genres schafft Balagueró es dennoch einen ziemlich guten Film zu machen. Es werden die meisten Handlungsstränge die in den ersten Filmen aufgeworfen wurden zusammengeführt und auch zufriedenstellend erklärt. Eine letzte alles erschlagende Erklärung bleibt aus, was ich aber eher positiv finde. Die Zombieszenen sind im großen und ganzen gelungen, hätten aber (wie oben erwähnt) etwas mehr "Härte" gebraucht. Nett ist aber das einige Gags wie Running Gags benutzt werden, auch wenn sie das erste (oder auch nur ein einziges) Mal auftauchen.Das nährt halt meinen Verdacht, daß Balagueró genau damit den ganzen Film spielt. Er scheint wirklich sehr bewußt jedes Klischee zu bedienen und benutzen. Es gelingt.[Spoiler]Ärgerlich ist irgendwann, dass die Wirkung des Parasiten auf seinen Wirt mMn übertrieben wird. In den Endszenen beherrscht der Parasit seinen Wirt derart, dass er durch ihn sprechen kann. Da wird es dann extremst unglaubwürdig. In der Szene spricht der Parasit Ángela direkt an und dass der Spaß jetzt erst richtig losgehe... aber vorher hat er selbst nicht entsprechend aggressiv gehandelt, sondern sich eher versteckt.[/Spoiler]Insgesamt ist der Film zwar anders als der grandiose erste Teil, aber nicht einfach eine Wiederholung des Konzepts wie der zweite und passt stimmungsmäßig wieder deutlich besser als der gewollt komische dritte Teil. Wurde nach dem Katastrophalen 3ten Teil überrascht, vorallem alte Schausspieler sind da .Leider sehr offenes Ende, und eher die Nummer, falls kommt, rec 5 sollte Apocalypse heißen *wegen dem Ende)
