The Joy of Jelly Rolls: A complete guide to quilting and sewing using jelly rolls

Overall this is a really helpful book. I'm relatively new to quilting (just finished my 3rd quilt when I ordered this book) and entirely self taught so I wanted something to help me practice the basic skills. This book is perfect for that.I've created a handful of the gifts from this book and they've all been very cute.There are some important tidbits of information I wish were included in the instructions though. Like when you're sewing the zipper into the zippered pouch, there's no indication of which direction the zipper teeth should face (up or down). So I placed the zipper without considering this, sewed it in, top stitched it and then flipped things right side out to find my zipper teeth were facing the inside of the pouch 🤷🏻‍♀️ And since the instructions call for pressing your seams open I used a 1mm stitch length which took forever to pull out to fix this mistake. This isn't a big deal but adding one line to the instructions could've prevented this.That being said, after the hiccups when running through the first time I'm able to zip through the project in just a few minutes.And I have to address the reviews that complain there aren't enough quilt patterns in this book and too many gifts. The cover of the book (you know, the first image for this item listing) literally says "Contains 24 quilts and 44 gifts"... So you're giving the item a bad review because you can't read??? Come on.

I was hoping for a book with more quilts than gifts but it's the other way around with this book. I wasn't interested in a tissue pouch etc. Also, a lot of the projects are really difficult to SEE because of the quilting that covers up the pattern, or the fabrics are so loud and the contrasts are too close that there is no differentiation in the pattern. I have to look at the drawing to see that the quilt actually is. Which is weird. There are some good patterns and pretty fabrics, but its a little exhausting.

This book has lots of different ideas. You can always change things a bit once you get a good idea.

Nice quality, good patterns, easy to follow instructions

I made 3 small quilts for seniors . One for an elder man whom is going through cancer treatments, before he received had friends write something on it..and for his caretakers to sign. I needed the quilts to be easy to make and quick. So the book came in handy.

Joy of Jelly Rolls is more than half about ideas for small gifts that one could make with any fabric.

So many great project ideas in this book! I love that it also features applique and english paper piecing as well. I absolutely recommend this book to anyone that love jelly rolls as much as I do!

Good addition to my quilting library.

240ページと洋書ではめずらしく厚手の本で見応えあります。画像も多くわかりやすく説明されていますが 老眼の身にはちょっと文字が小さくて読みづらくもあります。内容は初心者向けだと思います。キルトも多いですがポーチやぬいぐるみなどの小ものが多めです。

This book explains all the terms and what tools you need, etc. I found it very interesting. Not too keen on some of the gift suggestions. (Stuffed fish to decorate the bathroom)? The quilts were a bit different from the usual ones I've seen. Can't wait to get started.

Well packed book with good colour photos. Plenty of projects to choose from.Good clear instructions.
