incredibly useful!
This is a great book for self study. I needed to learn C++ for a class, and I worked my way through this book. The exercises are useful, the text is clear, and the examples are engaging. There is also a companion website with helpful videos and notes. I am so glad I ordered this book! But don't think you'll learn C++ in a few hours...this book is over 1000 pages, and you do have to work through the examples to really learn the material. I would highly recommend this to anyone for self study or as an additional class textbook.

This book is my best friend
I purchased this book back in 2015 for my intro to C++ course, and absolutely love it. I didn't realize how awesome this textbook was until I started reading other programming books and was like "Wow, my book teaches this much better!" I've taken three C++ courses now and have used it ever since. It has become my best friend, haha! The same authors also wrote a Early Objects edition for Java, and I loved that one, as well. Very easy to read, understand and great examples!

WARNING: Does not come with Access Key to Pearson.
Let me state this right off the bat. This is a great book, very easy to understand, walks you through all the little steps, perhaps even a bit to much in the beginning. Now the reason I am writing this review: My instructor told me to buy this book for a C++ Class I am taking (It is online). I was later told to use the access code that came with the book to register an account here: https://register.pearsoncmg.com/reg/register/reg1.jspI now have to buy an access key from here to get the material that my instructor will be using: https://register.pearsoncmg.com/reg/buy/buy1.jsp?productID=64182If I had known this ahead of time, I would have taken the Hardcover version of this book. I just want everyone to be aware of this.

I like all the books in the starting out series so ...
This is my third starting out book. I like all the books in the starting out series so far because the concepts are very well explained so that even a beginner can pick up the book and still understand most concepts. I've used starting out with Java, starting out with c++, and starting out with visual basic 2012, and I like all three books.

Great book for beginners
This book is a great book for beginners and intermediate readers alike. if you purchase this book expect to see detailed nice and clear explanation of c++ language ,period.[EDIT]:the companion website is up now. however according to page (xxii) in the book the companion website should contain the source code of programs included in the book (among other things),guess what ? it does not contain what is promised (? yet) .

I've found this book rock solid. It was a required textbook from one of my classes. It always explains concepts clearly with good examples. I still use it after the class when I feel like reviewing any concept. Online references usually help me implement a code faster, but the book explains the logic and execution sequence, which helps me really understand it.

Bent Corners, Looks Used
Bought new but the book came with severe bent corners and other marks. Either was slightly used or shipping wasn't cared for greatly.

Great Textbook for Introductory C++ Programming.
I used this book for my Intro to Computer Science class at Oregon State University. I think the book definitely helped my understanding of the material and provides clear code examples. As this was my first real experience with programming the book is at an appropriate level of understanding for beginners. While the book does use C++ it also develops the principles and skills necessary for any object oriented programming language. My only complaint so far is that this is a textbook (with an appropriate price), so if you're looking to learn about programming outside of the structure of the classroom I think other books and resources might be a better match.
