Not worth the money, junk made in India.
Not worth the money. Cracks, bad welds, sloppy finish work and poorly fitted to the handle. The head is poorly welded to the eye with visible cracks along the top and bottom edges, the eye is just a piece of steel bent around the handle and sloppily welded together. The eye has gaps and welding splatter that was never cleaned up. The blued finish has blotches, swirls, and a visible weld on the side. It is junk made in India. Spend a little extra and get a truly hand forged hawk made in America. I got an email from the seller asking if I was satisfied, I replied telling them my disappointment and I never heard back from them.

Read before you buy!!!!!!!!
I purchased this over a cold steel hawk because of the more elegant appearance and perceived craftsmanship. I was wanting a light weight camp axe and thought this would fit the bill. As you can see from the first 2 pictures this was not a ready to use out of the box. The head didn't seat at all. The fit was very poor due to the very crud welding and splatter on the inside of the axe head as seen in the 3 photo. In the next 2 photos you can see hairline cracks in the axe head. I thought this to be just a cosmetic issue and didn't mind the character being added to the blade. After all I was going to give it hard use anyways. I put my hands to work with a Dremel tool to remove and contour the welding scars located inside the axe head. I used a sanding disk to help shap the handle for a good fit to mate the two together. After I was happy with my hard work I commenced to sharpening the blade. The one I received was a far cry from having an even remotely usable edge. Maybe due to shipping concerns. When my labor of love was complete I went outside with a big smile of satisfaction. I proceeded over to my discarded Christmas tree in the burn pile. Yes I burn this is still America for now. I took about 30 or so swings to limbs and the main trunk. I had to stop and catch my breath. Yes I know I'm out of shape. But to my dismay I noticed that those hairline cracks we're not cosmetic. But were structural integrity issues with the forging process. As you can see by the last 2 photos after some minimal usage this head is falling apart. I'm stuck with it because I used it like it was intended for and now I'm unable to return it in the condition I received it in. So research before you buy some people had better luck than I did with there purchase.

Unsafe and unusable
I am a American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector, Metalurgist and NQA1 Cwrtified Nuclear inspector, ASNT certified lvl 2 MT and PT and UT. And a member of the Mountain Man Society. Thats to justify what I present here. The axe blade has been broken away from the axe eye. It has been welded back on and poorly done.First photo shows the weld toe of the weld that was missed during grinding. The blade was welded from both sides meaning that this most likely is a butt weld and not complete pentration. This also shows underfill.Second photo shows a slag inclusion and the three unmarked circular areas are most likely pin holes or unground areas of lack of fusion. The third photo shows the offset where the blade was misaligned to the eye and the obvious warp in the blade. This tool is unfit and unsafe for use. The lack of quality in what is supposed to be a throwing blade is shameful if not down right criminal. This could cause harm to the uneducated user.

Received 2 Different Hawks
I ordered this hawk because it was a fairly good price with fairly good reviews. When I received it, it was smaller than I had expected and when I measured the item it didn't quite match the measurements listed on the website- the blade edge is 3.25" which is a full half inch shorter than the description. So I decided to order another one and sure enough the new hawk has a larger axe head with the correct dimensions. Beyond this, there is quite a lot of variability in the thickness of the steel. The smaller hawk has thicker steel around the eye and on the axe head itself. The bigger hawk also came with a handle that appears to made out of bamboo. Whatever it is, it's missing the natural woodgrain that I have on the other hawk that you can see in the product pictures. I'm not giving a 1 star review for quality-both of the hawks seem fine in their own right- I'm giving one star for consistency. I don't know what hawk I received the first time around because it doesn't match the dimensions of any of the hawks as listed on any of their product pages. I don't want to risk returning the older hawk, because it is used now and I've had issues with returns before. I was planning on buying a 2nd at some point anyways and it just isn't worth the time and the effort. Just be aware of what you might get.
