Excellent book.

This is one of the best historical fiction written in Bengali language. Eighteenth century bengal comes alive in this epic novel. Though it is a fiction but it depicts most of the historical events accurately and the historical characters are depicted genuinly, without any pretence. If anyone is interested in knowing the history of bengal in mid eighteenth century then it is a must read book. Truly awesome.

very nice book

This is a fascinating classic by Sunil Gangopadhyay, who vividly brings to life the nascent years of Bengal Renaissance (1840-70) through many of the historical characters who lived during that era and a few fictional characters. Being a Keralaite, who spent six years in Calcutta in the 1970s, it was a great revelation to read the novel in orginal Bengali script.

I have started to read bengali novels very recently and as reader with only limited time available to invest, wanted to pick only the best. And lo, this book blew me away with the narrative and such eloquent language and writing.
