My Grandkids really like these.
These kite string reels are of high quality and work very well! Thank you. My Dad was a Lockheed Missle Designer so when I was a kid our garage was filled with every kind of tool and project. So he designed and we made HUGE kites out of white butcher paper and 1/4" wood dowells and they must have been 5 ft. high since they were quite a bit taller than we were. We painted them with big orange dragons and lightening bolts and such. Then my Dad MADE these 'fishing reels' out of sheet aluminum and aluminum dowells, with a 2" pipe spindles with big handles all soldered together and loaded them with 50-100 lb test line. We flew these kites until they were almost into the clouds it seemed and out of sight up over the fields next to our house! When Mom called us to dinner, it took about 30 minutes to reel them in since they were so far away. Guess I should make some kites with my grandkids now, eh? And I can certainly use these kite string reels for this project as they are sturdy and well engineered! My Dad would be impressed. Thanks for reading my walk down memory lane. Robin in Seattle : )

Great Kite string
Easy to use, lots of line on the reel. I purchased this string to replace a broken reel, I’m happy with the upgrade. I also purchased a 30ft octopus with a second reel, due to the size and pull on the massive kite that one was a bit more difficult to pull in. A larger reel would have been better for the larger kite.

Great reel!
I finally got around to using this with a kite on the beach. It was great. My father brought a kite as well, but didn’t feel like flying it once he saw how simple my reel was. I was able to control the speed of letting the kite out. Everyone was impressed by the distance the kite got, and I still had half the line to go if I wanted to. It was a good wind for the day, constant and directional - as you’d expect on the beach. I ended up leaving it behind for my father and other family members who were staying for a few more days. I look forward to trying it out again on a field. The only negative is if/when the line gets tangled. This comes with poor handling. But it’s not impossible to undo. Just keep it locked at the tightest it can be.

Highly recommend if you're going to fly a kite in high winds
I purchased a cheaper kite to take to the beach because I haven't flown a kite since about 1967. But I knew I wanted more line and something easy to use to fly it. I do not regret this purchase one bit!. It's twice as long (600 feet) as the string that came with the kite (300 feet), and it was thicker, sturdier string too. A little cumbersome to attach to the kite, but that's because the hardware is very sturdy. The conditions at the beach were VERY windy, and we slowly reeled out all of this string. Just don't do it too fast or your kite will fall. The kite flew very well, and we really had fun. But when it came time to reel it in, that was the big payoff with this product. Super easy to wind, and the kite reeled in simply and perfectly, in about 2-3 minutes. I thought it might crash when the line got smaller, but it didn't. Came in just like a well trained dog. We really loved this product and I would recommend to anyone who wants their kite to fly high, but doesn't want to spend an hour reeling it in at the end of the day.

So far so good
This is my 2nd one. The handle you reel with broke on the first. It may have been a different brand. It would be nice if they could incorporate a brake where the handhold is. When the wind is blowing good, it spins very fast with nothing to stop it but your other hand. Recommend wearing a glove.

You get what you pay for
Good while it lasted but the guide snapped right off after the return period and the line continued to tangle too often not to mention would roll off the reel causing a huge mess

Not up to the expectation and has design flaws that can frustrate you
It is a kite line winder - no rocket science here but the the design is not good enough to concentrate on kite flying. You will be looking at your winder more than the kite. The edges where you hold the product with your finger are not smooth or correctly shaped and because of this the hand starts hurting. not to mention the size - it didn't fit my normal size 14 year daughter. if you are not careful, the line will come out of the winder and you can end up with a mess. Few more guides to keep the line in place would have helped. If you let the winder start letting the thread and if the wind is strong, it turns fast and the handle can hurt your kids hand while trying to stop the winder. It looks pretty and works ok - if you get everything right, you will be able to roll in the kite quickly compared to manual winding. The line that came with the winder was pretty good. Not worth the effort to return it and look for something else - so will just keep it.

We had bought two kites, one each for the Grandchildren & had been to the local downs where the children had had two great days out . However, they weren't able to easily hold the original, usual, spools of nylon which came with the kites. Due to their design, they had to be held quite awkwardly, face downward to stop the nylon flowing off in the wind. The Grandchildren at 6 and 4 years old, didn't get to do as much flying as we would have liked them to, so that they could enjoy the day even more. So, we bought two Mint Reel winders to see how they went. I in particular, wanted them to experience the excitement I used to have flying kites, although I would have been far older they they were. Well, we had doubts they would be a success but it was worth a try, what could we lose. When they arrived, I was pleasantly surprised to see each one came with: 1. its own bag, made from material, useful for carrying them & storing them when not in use. 2. an eylette on the reel to feed the string through which ensures the string is fed back onto the reel when winding in. 3. a really small metal link, attached to the end of the string, which also attaches to the kite, far easier than tying a load of knots! This was attached very easily to the eyelette on the kite & we were ready to go. Well, what a difference these reels made. Once the kites were up the children soon got the hang of them & were confident in their use & flew the kites for 95% of the time running around in excitement & using just one hand even no hands at one point! They absolutely loved the whole experience. For the rest of the Summer holidays, each Thu / Fri, all they wanted to do was to go to the Downs & fly their kites. Oh, & as a bonus, these winders come with approx 200 metres of string as apposed to 50 or 100 metres, which made the children (& Granddad), extremely happy to see their kites way way up high, higher than anyone elses. I would add though, the wind was strong, approx 18 mph, so we let out the string at the beginning & wound it in at the end. So much easier & faster than with the original reels, a great buy all round, can't wait to go again!

It's a enhanced experience for kite flying, how ever it should have more caution and warnings of how to use it properly in safe way, because when the kite catch wind it will go very fast, for small kids it will catch them by surprise.
