Best book - ever. Beautiful message.
One of my favorite books of all time. I use this for one of my counseling lessons as a school counselor. We discuss how the best gift we can give is the gift of love. I do this particular lesson with 1st grade students but discuss it with them each year as they get older and they always remember it. I’ve also done the lesson with 5th grade & the result was fantastic as well. We usually discuss our favorite memories first which all usually have to do with people we love and time spent with someone. This easily ties into the beautiful message of the story. The illustrations are wondeful, simple and the message is my favorite. I bought a hard copy for myself and I’ve had family come to visit and read it and they love it equally as adults.

Wonderful story
I gave this book to 12 adults as a present for Christmas. I read it to a friend, and she immediately asked....where can I get this? I bought it for her and she said she'll read it to family members in other States as she visits during Christmas. I can't imagine a person not liking this quick reading book, less than 5 minutes, and not having to read it again and again because of its profound meaning. It's just beautiful, meaningful, cute, and special. It also became a present for a 94 year old friend. No matter the age, this book will be enjoyed.

Wonderful book
This book proves that it's more important to spend time with someone than to just throw money at them. When we're not sure what to give, we should give our love and heart. Wonderful book!

Everyone needs this book.
My daughter gave my husband and I this book 2 Christmases ago. We loved it so much that we have given copies as gifts to multiple people. I feel I should have an inventory of 5 or so copies to have on hand when I need it. My husband and I discussed gift giving before we got married. The family he grew up in did it very differently than my family did. We threw out the bad ideas, kept some of the good and added our own philosophies to decide how we would handle the matter in our new family. As the case with many Americans, we already have too many belongings as it is. The best gifts we can give to each other is time together, rather than just buying something so the receiver has something to unwrap. On occasion a perfect gift idea does pop up. There is a gentleman, that I will refer to as Mr. Bob, who worked at the garden center here in town. For the 17 years I had known him since first going to the garden center when we moved here, he has been a rich resource for information, always greeted you with a warm smile, and remembered your name. He consoled me when my beloved step-father passed. Both Mr. Bob and my step-dad were avid birders and belonged to the Audubon Society for many years. He helped me choose the perfect tree to plant in memory of my step-dad. Last year I discovered that Mr. Bob was retiring. I called the Audubon Society to donate $50.00 in Mr. Bob's name as a retirement gift. The person at the society had a better idea of what to do with that money. Retirement usually means a drop in salary. This person put the $50.00 toward extending Mr. Bob's Audubon membership for another three years. What a wonderful idea! Cute characters, with age old wisdom about what really matters
Sweet story about one character’s attempt to find the perfect gift for his best friend. My kids borrowed it from the library and my husband loved it so much I bought a copy to keep at home to treasure!

The contents of the book is great. But the cover was crumpled and dirty. I had to use an eraser to clean it. This is supposed to be a gift. How embarrassing

I read the Japanese version first, and wanted to read the original. Both are the best picture books ever! Cute but deep, and it ringers for a while after reading.

Again another book I've used in school-this time as an assembly stimulus with 420 4-11 year olds who were transfixed by this simple story about friendship, gifts and nothing! My own children are to old for this now however they enjoyed reading it when I enthusiastically showed it. I will however make it a regular shared reading experience with my new granddaughter.
