Awesome mouse pad for the price, does contain latex rubber
I spent a lot of time researching mouse pads and decided to give this a try, I'm so happy that I did because it's perfect. 3M is known for making great products and this is no exception. The surface is a hard plastic type material with a slight texture and a unique white and silver pattern that is designed to increase the reflectivity for an optical mouse, it also has good traction for a ball mouse. This provides more precision when using the mouse and also reduces the amount of battery power that an optical mouse requires. It is not a fabric, and this plastic is very wipeable if you spill anything on it or want to clean it. Due to it not being a fabric it is very easy to sanitize and keep clean as it will not absorb oils and dirt from your palm and fingertips. The bottom of the mouse pad is a soft rubber with texture, it grips well, it does have a slight odor to it. The entire mouse pad is about as thick as a quarter, which is fine with me because I don't like thick mouse pads. It appears to be very durable, one thing I would note though is that the label says that it is made with natural latex rubber which some people may have sensitivity to. Quick update, if you fold or flex this and it creases, the crease isn't going come out. So lay it flat and leave it flat.

Smooth Free Movement, Great Tracking, Not Exactly an Objet d'art
I was using an old cloth bound thick mouse pad designed for the mechanical ball mice of yore. It was literally old enough to vote and then some and was all frayed and mushed down about the edges, and, truth be told, somewhat filthy. A real man's mouse pad. Never the less I was not really in the market for a new mouse pad. When you have used something for 23 years, you get attached to it. I just happened to see this 3M pad on Amazon with the claim of better tracking and 50% longer battery life for optical mice. So I decided to give it a go. The 3M mouse pad works fine, but then again so did the old crummy one. I will have to admit though that the mouse moves around far more freely. Tracking is excellent. As far as battery life goes, I will never know. I bought a new Bluetooth mouse a just a week before getting the pad, so I will have no basis of comparison...not that I would anyhow. Who keeps track of how often they change a mouse battery? I have NiMH rechargeable batteries stacked up like cord wood for all the junk that uses batteries, so changing a battery is no big deal but if I can get a blue moon and a half out of a battery rather than just a blue moon, why not. Positives: --It stays put. The foam rubber back does not slide around on my desk, but not having the adhesive backing means that I can easily move it if I want. --Nice free movement. My mouse feels like it is on ice skates compared to the old mouse pad. --Excellent tracking. --Easy to clean surface. Negatives: --The pad is very thin compared to the old pad and the edge of the pad is hard and sharp. If my mouse slips off the pad, one of the sliding feet on the bottom of the mouse invariably catches on the hard edge of the pad and stops dead. This is more of an issue of sloppy mouse handling on my part than a fault in the mouse pad, but it is somewhat irritating. So far I have been unable to discipline myself to keep the mouse on the pad. That's what happens when you use a thick cloth bound pad with mushed down edges for two decades, you get sloppy. --This thing isn't much to look at. It is sort of a minimalist M. C. Escher that never changes. If you like an interesting looking mouse pad, find something else. Not a big deal to me, but it is rather drab. As far as complaints that other reviews have mentioned, I can't say that the chemical smell is over bearing. If I hold the foam side up to my nose, yes, I can smell a chemical smell, but I don't notice it when it is sitting on the desk. I read a review that stated the surface was not durable and subject to excessive wear. I haven't had the pad long enough to observe that. It appears to be durable but time will tell. Other than the hard edge, I am quite pleased with this pad and would recommend it to others with the caveat of the surface durability.

It looks co0L! It works!
My MS Intellimouse was flaking out, and I thought it was the mousepads i was using. I bought this 3M one. Was happy with it at first, then mouse was having same old issues, and I blamed it on the mouse and pad getting dirty so fast. I's a sweaty summer here in Texas... Well I recently bought a TECKNET Rechargeable Wireless Bluetooth Mouse with 4-Way Wheel, 3-Device. It works perfect for a cheap mouse. The 3M Pad now works perfect. If it gets a little bit dirty it still works excellent with this mouse. Very easy to clean also. Both Items recommended.

Soooo...it smells like a tire shop...but otherwise awesome.
It's nearly perfect. Surface is a nice matte finish, made from a durable plastic that pairs perfectly with the glides on the underside of your mouse - so the movement smooth with minimal resistance. Perfect. The pad is THIN, which I prefer because thinker pads tend to dig into my wrist/palm at the lower edge, so that's a win for me. Only downside is the vulcanized rubber smell from the rubber backer. It's improved a bit over time, but be prepared for some tire store stink initially. After months, if I flip it over, it still stinks. If you're sensitive to fumes or VOCs, maybe look elsewhere. But I love the functionality. And I kinda like the smell of the tire store...sooo....

High Quality Mouse Pad
When I saw all the reviews, I decided to purchase one of these mouse pads and I am so glad that I did! I love the ultra-thin profile because it's more comfortable on my hand and wrist, especially with long use. The surface is smooth with a slight texture which allows the mouse to move with precision. It's also very easy to wipe clean. The bottom is a thin foam layer that grips the desk surface to prevent sliding around. The size is perfect, with enough room to move the mouse and not slide off the edge. This is a high-quality mouse pad and the best I have been able to find. I would recommend this for the average user or those who do technical work and need the mouse to be very precise.

Amazing mouse pad
I never thought I would want to write a review of a mouse pad but this one is amazing. My Apple Magic Mouse gets laggy and has trouble with many mouse pads, especially any that are rubbery or fabric or fabric-like. It seems to need a reflective surface. I had a metal (aluminum) mouse pad, but it made a horrible scratching noise whenever I moved the mouse. This one works better than any. My Apple Magic Mouse has zero lag and zero issues. It's silent. Good size. I actually really like the texture, and it grips the the table well. I'm buying one for all of my work stations.

Reeks of chemical when new, pattern insufficient for Magic Mouse
All in all this mousepad may yet prove to be the best on the market, but I'm trying to get an Apple Magic Mouse to work right. It frequently fails to move the cursor in response to mouse movements. This appears to be a fundamental failing of the design of the optical sensor. Prior (wired) Apple mice never suffered from this problem, which is very annoying and bothersome. It is true that mousing surface patterns colors, printed details, built-in textures and the like, which the mouse can "see" to varying degree, have a big impact on how well this Magic Mouse works. Apart from the tracking failures I do like the mouse a lot. I suspect that a finer pattern than the one on the 3M mousepads might work better and I intend to experiment by printing a pattern(s) onto glossy inkjet paper and putting that on top of the mousepad and see if I can get the mouse to stop skipping. I will have to complain to Apple about the mouse too, because unless this is a defective unit, the design is optically terrible. The 3M mousepad absolutely reeked of some chemical smell from its materials upon opening the containers it came in. A plastic bag then the cardboard sleeve. It stank for days enough that I didn't want it in the room. I actually put it outside overnight the first night. It contains the stinkiest synthetic rubber or plastic I've ever smelled, likely as a result of an inferior manufacturing chemical process in China that should be rejected by 3M as not up to their usual high standards. After maybe a week it wasn't too bad to be allowed onto my desk. It was almost certainly the black, rubbery material of the bottom surface that was to blame. The friction level of the top surface is quite low. High friction surfaces are a real problem for mousing. Its possible that this surface's friction level is somewhat too low for most people's taste. I'd say it's OK but could be about double and still be fine, maybe better. Also, it is probable that a lighter-colored surface will result in longer wireless mouse battery life, as claimed. Another plus in favor of this mousepad.

Worth every penny and perfect pad for basic to advanced users
I searched for a good quality and durable mouse pad for a long time until i saw this. I used many mouse pads in 500 rs range and none of them lasted more than 2 months . I was looking for a compact and small size as it fits well and covers enough area for mouse movements. Pros: 1- Super quality and build, 3M brand is needleless to say awesome. 2- Grip is amazing, once placed well in table surface, it does not move bit even if you move mouse heavily 3- The surface so smooth and texture is so nice that mouse movement becomes 50% faster than any other mouse pad. 4- Energy efficient or not but I feel due to the smooth surface faster movement, it really needs less battery power as the tracking light.sensor is the main thing in a mouse that being used and drains battery if surface is not good. 5- by the build quality it will surely last for a long 6- I am a occasional gamer and I feel great precision in mouse while playing games .
