A whole lot of printer for very little money
My trusty Canon photo inkjet printer just bit the dust after 4+ years of use. As is the case with inkjets, that printer is no longer in production, and a replacement print head costs more than the printer did when new. A new printer is available on the huge auction site, but it costs more than double the original price of the printer. And as is often the case in life, I had just ordered 2 complete sets of ink cartridges for it.Anyhow, I went on a quest for a new printer. After 2 solid days of comparing features and reviews, I decided on the Canon D1620. And I am very glad I did. The savings on ink cartridges alone will provide a 2.5-year payback on the new printer. Ink is ridiculously overpriced. The printer arrived 2 days after I ordered it. The box it comes packed in is HUGE. Canon was really thinking, however, when they designed the packaging. Once you open the box at the top and fold back the flaps, you find that the outer box has no bottom. It simply lifts off the inner contents.Inside the outer box, there is more packaging, and the printer sits nestled inside a very high-quality styrofoam shell. I simply removed the plastic bag that the printer was in, and then lifted the printer up and out of the remainder of the packaging.Once I set the printer on my desk, it took me 5 minutes to remove all the tape holding down vital parts and covering things like the USP port. Now, I had previously read every Amazon review about this printer, and I knew I needed a USB cord to install the printer on my network and computer(s). What the reviews didn't specify was the TYPE of USB cord. I bought the wrong type (USB A to USB C). The printer requires a USB a to USB A cord. So I paid an extra $2.99 to have Amazon get the correct cord to me early in the day. When it arrived, I checked the fit. It was perfect. SCORE! (Or so I thought.) Even though I followed the instructions to a fault, the printer wasn't installing. SO...I called Amazon tech support. They advertise that they provide excellent quality tech support on this printer. Here is my advice: don't waste your time. Once the young-sounding Indian woman asked me if my printer was plugged into the wall, she was out of ideas. She contacted Canon tech support, and I waited on hold for 30 minutes until Canon answered and I was connected to them. Now, here's my advice: when you get the printer, get it loaded with paper (this thing holds 550 sheets in the supplied magazine), just call Canon support. Don't bother trying to install it yourself unless you are a tech wizard and you have mad skills.Once I was connected with their tech support rep, things progressed swiftly. She talked me through each step of the installation process, and those steps did NOT all coincide with the steps outlined on the installation cd shipped with the printer.Once the printer was installed, she had me configure the scan utility and test it. The total installation time was less than 2 minutes. And here's the weird part: that USB cable needed to install the printer on my computer even if I would be using the printer wirelessly was not needed. We never used it.The printer comes with a 3-year warranty. Longer coverage is available through Square Trade, Asurion, or Smart Guard here on Amazon, should you so desire. After using this printer for the past week, I can say without reservation that I LOVE this machine. I would buy it again in a heartbeat. And I would recommend it to my best friend.I suspect this will be the last printer I ever need to buy.

Great printer!
This printer is amazing! Bought one 9 years ago that was close to the same. But paid way more back then. Great price for a great printer! Hopefully it will last just as long.

Unhappy with the purchase of this product
12 years using a 15-20 year old Canon Multi Function Printer but needed a replacement due to a number of issues. New Canon ImageClass D1620 seemed like it would cover all the needs that we have for copying, printing, scanning, document feeder, etc. It didn't come with the same MF Toolkit that I've been using for years. Instead it installs a different MF Scan Utility which didn't load to save to my desktop, I had to go and find it. First thing I did was try to scan and discovered that it does give you limited options where to save the file but doesn't allow you to name the file. I've looked through the provided HTML User Guide which is not very well written and doesn't really describe much that is helpful for anyone looking of real world solution. I called Canon to see if there was someone I could talk to about issues, the user guide, etc. and was told that there is a 1 1/2 hour wait time. Very unhappy with this purchase and not sure I'll ever buy another Canon Product

Plug in & use!
*Super easy installation. It does NOT require you to subscribe to anything. Just plug and use.*Prints super fast speed*Wireless capability is awesome and easy to connect. The printer is plugged into the wall in a completely different room than where the internet modem is located.*Wirelessly connects to every computer in the house with ease*Set-up took less than a second.*Highly recommend if you want a Black & White user friendly printer. Who needs a color printer all the time?In the description it clearly states this is a Monochrome printer which means it prints only in Black & White. Those who rated this low for it being a Black & White printer make no sense. We live in a society of people who don't read, nor know vocabulary, I guess.Buy it! You will be happy.

No telephone port ! Confusing setup. Tel support from Canon was prompt but insufficient
Setup very confusing -comes with DVD and manual for computer experts (and I am very knowledgeable). Had to go online to download drivers and hundreds of choices of what to download and set up. Finally I was able to scan and print via wireless. Then it started to print on the back page of whatever paper put in. Also the bypass multi tray only works if setup for that tray only; unlike most other printers, it does not sense paper is now in bypass tray so print from here. Very , very frustrating. It does seem fast. Scans go straight to a file very quickly. Printing from app is pretty good. The touchscreen is pretty good but my adult size finger did not fit to arrow to right side - used pencil eraser tip. Touchscreen keeps popping up asking for what type of paper despite always using letter size,20lb size and having set this multiple times on printer preferences on the printer itself and must also deal with printer settings on windows. So much wasted time. And once there is an error in printing, the Print Queue cannot be cancelled! (even after cancel, task mgr to end task, and rebooting both printer and laptop!I called a canon for business showroom in town and no help on these matter. Was thinking about another Canon but could not get a simple answer whether bypass tray sensor should work and which ones have tel port for faxline. Looking elsewhere besides Canon to replace this one.
