I am really enjoying this book and reading the letters ...
I am really enjoying this book and reading the letters written by Chopin. It is a lovely treasure! I did want to note, that it is only the letters that he has written, so there is not a reply, you are only seeing his portion of the conversation so at times you may not fully understand what he may be replying to. I did not find this to be an issue in reading, I just wanted to note in case it may help another readers expectations of the book.

It's really a good window into the composer's day to day life
Interesting read and a must have for any Chopin fan. It's really a good window into the composer's day to day life. It also gives a good picture of his personality and character. Many of the letters don't make sense because we do not see any of the replies. But reading his words helped me better appreciate playing his music.

Good buy
Shipped fast. Good condition. The one thing that was sort of strange, is that it dosen't show any letters that were sent to Chopin himself, so a lot of his replys do not make sense. Also every time that he wrote two or more consecutive letters to the same person, it is addressed "To the Same" so you have to look all the way back to the first. In the case of Juliana Fontana this can span for more than ten pages.

Chopin's Actual Writing- What More Could One Want?
The title says it all, basically. This is a highly accurate book, of course, and it is mostly thanks to Chopin's beautiful writing. However, the preface provides highly accurate and careful/thoughtful information about Chopin and his letters. I really appreciated the amount of care that was put into editing Chopin's letters with the least bias possible- greatly done. For all Chopin fans, this is a must have; what better thing to read about the romantic genius than his actual writing (very detailed and colorful, too)? I highly recommend this book.

Useful insight into composer
Gives a wonderful insight into Chopinโs relationships with friends & family, along with his chief preoccupations (as disclosed) whilst away from his family home.Found the explanations into the identity of the recipients (& his previous relationship with them) sadly wanting in quite a few places. It would have been helpful to know more about such people in the Introduction.

Lovely collection; could be a bit more detailed/annotated.
I really enjoyed this splendid collection, the writings of a great human being and artist. However, it's 2022, and we could use more explanations/annotations (see Spaethling's Mozart translation for a great role model). Otherwise Chopin's language/expression tends to sound stilted and archaic (which it's clearly not), and we aren't always sure about the contexts/characters he's referring to.
