broken after 3rd use
This joystick was a good price, however it did not hold up to normal game play. After third time using it to play Donkey Kong, the "up" position /direction stopped working. Upon examination, the plastic contact ring was cracked in two places - when broken it no longer applies pressure to the sensor when joystick is pointed in "up" direction. Appears to be a design flaw, the plastic in this unit emulates the original Atari design, but the plastic ring is very thin and the tensile strength is insufficient to handle typical pressure used to play a game.

Coincidence or Cause?
I'm not sure how to rate this one....received the controller very quickly and in good shape...hooked it up to my retro Atari game that I have used many, many times, and it worked fantastic!!! Much better than the wireless ones that came with the console. Played it for probably 30 minutes, turned it off. Went to play again and the screen is now just wavy lines.. tried disconnecting, reconnecting, even a separate tv...same result.. So, I have no idea if this was a coincidence or if the controller somehow zapped the electronics, but my console is now dead.

Great but LOUD
The controller works very well with my Flashback 2. Because of the nine-prong adapter it should work on all Atari 2600, 7800, and flashback systems which was a huge selling point for me.Take my review with a grain of salt as I never played on an original controller. The stiffness of the joystick is fine, it reminds me of the one I toyed around with in a retro game shop, but it is LOUD. Likewise with the fire button, the button is stiffer than the original 2600 controller I tried and using it is louder than the games themselves. If this is how all original controllers sound during gameplay I’ll retract my review and give it five stars. This is a perfectly functional controller and I’m glad I picked it up!

Decent substitute for the OG CX40
Certainly isn't perfect, but this is a decent substitute for the OG CX40 if you need one.

Works with the Atari 2600 flashback
Controller feels good and fixes the lag problem that I was having with the wireless controllers that came with the flashback. Only down side is that it doesn't have any of the extra controls the flashback controllers come with. I guess that makes it more realistic since you have to use the console the same way we did in the 80s.

Loud clicking, not smooth, lightweight / flimsy construction, sent it back.
I had an itch to get an original CX-40 Atari 2600 controller to interface with my emulation and use it to play not only A2600 games but simple one or no button four-way joystick games like Pacman and Donkey Kong in MAME on my main PC. It had been about 40 years since I last used the Atari hardware. While waiting for a used OEM stick purchased offsite I tried out this thing which was pretty cheap comparatively. It's also a DB9 connector so you'll need an adapter like the 2600-Dapter II which is highly recommended. Windows 11 recognized it attached to the adapter and it worked in MAME as expected. Gameplay was lacking as the switches used clack clack clacked. It wasn't the same feel as the original which arrived while I had this. Comparing this to the OEM version this was stiffer, noisier and the rubberized material on the stick itself felt off. Anyhow, it was enough to make me send it back. (j4.)
