I’ve had it for about 6 months now and WOW! The other day, I spent all morning in my condo doing stuff around the house and went outside to have lunch. Within 10 minutes of being outside my nose was running and my eyes were itchy. It’s something that you don’t notice is working until something like that happens and it then becomes so obvious. I live in a 900 sqft condo and I keep this air purifier in a high traffic area but out of the way. It is not noisy unless you are sitting right next to it and it’s on full blast. I run it 24/7 on level 2 and honestly the “sound” doesn’t exist to me anymore. I would recommend this a million times over!!!

Believe it or not..... Mine is going on nearly 15 years old....I replace the filter every 6 months. Runs 24/7. I live on a major highway, seems to keep the dust out of the air. I have one in my living room and bedroom. I recommend to anyone looking for an entry level air purifier.

I live in Montana and it has been incredibly smoky over the last week or so due to many large wildfires nearby. Recently our air quality has been ranging from unhealthy for sensitive groups to very unhealthy. Today was the worst day: while at work I noticed that my throat felt raw and sore, and I have had intermittent headaches for the last several days. I came home after the GermGuardian AC500E was delivered, opened it up, turned it on, and within an hour felt notably better than I had all day. It has now been running on high for the last 4 hours (UV light off), and I feel surprisingly good! My throat still feels a little 'off,' but my headache has gone away and my sinuses feel much better.My house is ~1000 square feet with a very open floor plan, no air conditioning, and I have noticed that the air feels noticeably fresher throughout the house. I have been keeping the windows and doors closed as much as possible, which has kept VOCs to a minimum inside the house, but since I live with a dog, I open the door to the backyard several times a day. I highly recommend this item to anyone hoping to lessen the negative effects of wildfire smoke exposure!UPDATE September 4th, 2017: My GermGuardian fan is still going strong! We have even worse air quality this year (today our air quality was rated as "hazardous"), and this fan is making a huge difference. My coworkers have been complaining of headaches, sinus congestion, and other problems because of wildfire smoke, and I am happy to report that I have experienced little to none of those symptoms thanks to this fan. I also have a GermGuardian AC4100 (smaller model) in my office, which works very well. Sometimes at work I will notice my throat becoming slightly sore or I will get a slight headache when I am not working in my office for a long period of time, so I am sure that these fans are the reason I am still feeling okay even when our air quality is bad.I typically leave this fan (AC5000E) going in the front room of my house during the day and at night. I accidentally left a window open last night and woke up to the bedroom smelling like there was a campfire inside. I shut the window, moved this fan into the bedroom and within an hour the bad smell decreased significantly. I have told several coworkers about this fan and I highly encourage other folks to consider getting any fan with a HEPA filter if you live in an area inundated with wildfire smoke. HEPA filters really make a huge difference, and I love my GermGuardian fans!

I have bad allergies and needed something to help with mold, cedar and two dogs that shed a lot. After doing some online research I ordered this unit and I placed it in my bedroom. I then turned it on high and turned on the UV light, closed the bedroom door and let it run for about an hour while I did a couple things. When I opened the door it was a very noticible difference as it knocked out the bad pet smell and the air was much cleaner. That evening when I went to sleep, I put the unit on medium and left the UV light on and I made it through the night without sneezing and my eyes didn't itch nearly as bad. For two weeks now, I'm feeling much better. I ordered another one for my son and put it in his bedroom and it's working great. Then I bought two more so now I have 4 units. I didn't know what to expect upfront when the first one arrived, but I can honestly say it has made a difference and I am sold. During the day, I turn off the unit in the bedrooms and close the door, and turn on the one that is now in my family room. I have found if you turn it on HIGH for an hour with the UV light on it knocks out the allergens. Then right before I go to sleep, I'll turn off the UV light and leave the unit on medium for the rest of the night and it works great. The real test will come this January when Cedar hits as it gets really bad where I live, but I have no doubt I will see a big difference. If you buy this, you should definitely feel a difference. The other thing I like is the unit is not loud which makes it easy to fall asleep. When turned on the UV light that's located inside the unit is visible and not very bright, but it is also accompanied by a blue light on the top of the unit which at night is pretty bright for me. Keep this in mind when you decide where to place the unit as it can also double as a small night light. However, if it's a problem, without turning off the power button, you can just turn off the UV light which is separate. It appears the UV light really does it's job and I haven't had to keep it on all the time, but for the first 3 days I did just so it could knock everything out in the air. I don't usually write a product summary, but I feel this one is worth it.
