Baskerville ULTRA Dog Muzzle | Size 4

We needed a muzzle for our 2 Male Great Danes that are 2 year old brothers and are nervous around new people and new situations since they are rescues that were not socialized properly and were abused. We wanted to ensure that when going to the Vet for a check up that no one would get bit. We had tried another muzzle the vet let us borrow that had a belt buckle like closure but that took too long to close and our one dog would go nuts and we could never get it on him. So I knew I was looking for something that had a one click closure option. I read through a lot of reviews and once I came upon this product I saw how many great reviews it got, so we gave it a try and have been very happy with it for both dogs. The one click closure works quickly and solved the problem we had before. This product comes with an extra security strap that runs from the nose to the head to ensure the dog can not pull the muzzle off with their paws or by rubbing it on the ground. I love this extra sense of security. It also has a loop on the bottom where the collar could run through it to ensure the dog could not pull it off that way either, but we have not had a need to use that option. I love how the dog has plenty of openings to breathe easily while wearing it and how they can easily be fed treats through it and could drink if needed with it on. Very well made design all around and a quality product. Our Great Danes are both Males and one weighs 133 and the other weighs 139. We bought Size 6 for both of them and it fits both of them great and they still have plenty of room between the end of muzzle and their nose. We did lots of treat training for 2 weeks with the muzzles before attempting to actually have them wear them. Meaning the first day we just let them sniff the muzzles and then they got a treat. Then for 1 week we would hold a treat at the end of the muzzle and the only way the dog could get the treat was to put their nose in the muzzle and get it. Then the next week we would still hold the treat at the end of the muzzle, but the difference was that we would not immediately release the treat like before. We would purposely hold the treat tighter so that the dog had to work harder to get the treat and that way they would be in the muzzle for about 3-5 seconds, just to get them used to the feeling more. Then at the 2 week mark, while still giving them a treat through it, we closed it. At first they both tried to paw and rub to get it off but we immediately said lets go for a walk and they were so distracted and excited about that that they barely messed with them after that. Then when we went on a walk a few days later they had no issues with putting them on and they only tried to mess with them once and then stopped after that while on walk. Would highly recommend this product.

So at first I thought about returning this muzzle for my dog because he could easily remove it, and it wasn’t fitting his muzzle in the right position. And I realized that the fit had to do with the strap that went between his eyes in the front . I removed that strap and it fits him perfectly, and he can’t remove it. Now it works as it was intended and it fits his muzzle better, he can’t remove it at all and he can still pant and drink his water. Awesome muzzle.

I have two, two-year old male dogs -- an 80lb husky/pit bull mix, and a 90lb pit bull -- that have very recently decided they want to go to war over everything instead of using some manners and mutual respect to solve their issues. The most recent fight resulted in vet bills and both me and my fiance being bitten trying to utilize some bunk "throw a blanket over fighting dogs to make them stop" method from a trainer who I now realize has never even probably seen or attempted to break up a fight between two very strong, very evenly matched, pissed off pit bulls. These two have snapped and torn collars lunging at each other when they were being restrained with them. The pit bull was a stray we rescued that was obviously abused and used as a bait dog. He has some serious fear issues with humans and other dogs and muzzles are critical in teaching these two how to deal with their emotions non-violently and that there are other ways to solve problems besides being aggressive... like asking me to handle it. Which is my job as mom and pack leader. :) Like other reviews stated, the size charts are WAY off. I measured my dogs' snouts and the chart recommended a size 5 and a 6. Fortunately I went with my gut and ordered sizes 3-6 just because of the wild reviews. The pit-husky ended up in a 4 and the pit bull in a 5. The four stars is due to the difficulty in sizing. Amazon makes returns easy, but spending an extra $40 on two extra muzzles and the 30 minute drive to drop off the boxes at UPS is kind of a hassle. I like the fact that there is a loop at the bottom for the collar to go to. Neither one of my very strong boys was able to get these off, and I gave them 10 (supervised) minutes and watched as they tried very hard to get them off. Eventually they whined with frustration and stopped messing with them and were given treats. Now they are happy to put them on and don't fuss with them. The only way I can imagine a dog getting it off is if the muzzle is too big ( if its too big the dog can easily get their mouth out of the bottom) or handler doesn't put the muzzle on tight enough. You should be able to get one finger under the strap behind the ear and it should not move. No more, no less. Add in the head strap and it's not going anywhere. Others have complained about a plastic snap on the head strap, however neither one of my muzzles has a snap. The head strap is looped through the rubber so they must be making them differently now. Good construction and design. Not uncomfortable for my dogs, and the peace of mind knowing we can finally go to the dog park and out for walks without people bothering us (I have even tried yellow ribbons tied on the leashes. Kids always want to pet puppies, and it's mortifying when your huge, muscular dog greets their smiling face with raised hair on his neck and a low growl) because the muzzles themselves look a little intimidating. Nobody wants to touch a dog in a Hannibal Lector mask and that in itself helps with training. No over stimulation of my dogs and I don't have to explain why little Johnny can't touch without getting distasteful looks.

Didn't fit well and slid off to easy .it looks like it would work well but the top is easy to slide and get out . Didn't work for my boy but might work differently for other dogs. It is adjustable and easy to use but Didn't keep him from getting out well . It is pet friendly and nice but it didn't prevent him from getting out . Good luck might have been my mistakes too .

We purchased this for a trip where dogs are allowed on public transportation but need a muzzle. We originally bought a mesh nylon one, but was advised by friends this style is safer even if it looks crazy. The video from this company helps a lot to train your dog how to use the muzzle. For our 6 yr old, salmon skin treats from Trader Joe’s did the trick 😁 Our pup was inbetween sizes so we bought size 5 for our 61 lb golden retriever. She did really well with it. It’s on the looser side, but the size 4 would’ve been a tight fit. This company is reputable, and we appreciate that. It was very helpful especially for a long bus ride that was 30-40 min each way, and she did great and was able to safely breathe and take treats with it on. So I have a Pitt mix whose snout is short but very W I D E. He is very reactive and quite nippy in general and so getting him on the road to socialize has been almost impossible. This muzzle is hard plastic and it’s kind of like a mouth guard where you can dip it in boiling water and then shape it. I did NOT dip it and place immediately on his face cause it’s hot! But I tried it on him and knew I needed it wider and could give up some of the height. So dipped it and then pulled it wider and placed in a bowl of cold water while stretching. His snout is about 3 inches long, like 5 inches wide, and only 3.5 tall. It is not a 100% perfect fit but it’s the best I’ve found so far. The straps seem comfortable on him too. It’s very open so he can breathe, pant, drink, even have treats.

The size recommendations are way off. The circumference standards aren't close to my dog's and completely unhelpful. The eye-to-nose measurement is informative, but still not determinative. It would have led me to purchase a model larger than appropriate. My dog, a Boxer mix, is supposedly a size 5, but I read enough reviews to order a 4 and it fits perfectly --neither too constricting nor too loose. With that minor reservation, this is an incredibly well-designed product. The reviewer who says he regarded it as only an interim solution while awaiting a much more expensive rigid steel basket is nuts. The virtue of this product is that it secures the dog's muzzle without impairing the dog's vision, movement, and comfort as a metal muzzle would. The rubber material is not heavy enough to be annoying while still providing the desired stability. My dog adapted to it immediately. He now voluntarily puts his head into it. A few times he has rubbed his head against grass, but I interpreted that to be more an effort to relieve an itch than to dislodge the muzzle. He has never used his leg, for example, to try to remove it as dogs often do with medical cones. I also don't get the gripes about closing and locking the ends of the muzzle. That feature is similar to that found on my dog's collar. The key is to lift the female end off the male end rather than trying to force the male end out of the female end. As long as you apply the two pressure levers at the same time to the same degree, the female end lifts off easily. Nor do you need a second collar to secure the muzzle; its securing loop easily slips on and off the dog's existing collar. I was self-conscious about resorting to a muzzle because I thought it indicated some inadequacy in my own ability to train my dog or my dog's character. I was wrong about that. In many cases, we don't, and cannot, know what triggers each individual dog to express his anxiety by sometimes biting. All we can do is contain that instinctive reaction he can't control himself. I am so grateful to have a device as carefully conceived as this one to do so.

After 3 1/2 years of getting along beautifully, my two girls, a Siberian Husky and a GSD/Boxer mix, decided it was time to renegotiate the role of Alpha dog. They had never fought before and when they went at each other with no warning (well, I'm sure there were signs that I, as a stupid human missed) I was absolutely terrified. There is no doubt in my mind that they were prepared to fight to the death. Both dogs had to be sewn up and my hand ended up in someone's mouth when I tried to separate them and was pretty severely injured. I was in tears for two days, wondering how I was going to make it work long-term with three dogs, two of whom could have absolutely no contact with each other. They were still total lovebugs and as sweet as ever with me and with my other dog. But they wanted to kill each other. After doing some research and contacting a behaviorist, the idea of muzzles came up. I hadn't thought of muzzles, since I guess I had bought into the idea that they were for "bad" dogs. That's not the case. Muzzles can be an incredible tool. They provide a safe, fail-proof environment and allow us to work on the real issues. They let us be a happy family again. I bought the Baskerville muzzles, as they seemed like the best choice for active dogs since the dogs can pant, drink, take treats and the ventilation is excellent. It honestly only took about 10 minutes each to get the girls comfortable with letting me put them on. As recommended, I held the muzzle cupped in my hand with plenty of choice treats at the bottom. Each dog put their face in on their own to retrieve the treats. Once the muzzle was seen as a treat dispenser, it was no problem to get it buckled around the dog's head. It is a bit of a pain to find the holes in the strap, but when I found the best fit for each dog, I marked that hole with a dab of paint so I could locate it quickly. I used the over the head straps at first, but they were always flopping in the dogs' eyes. I took them off and neither dog has ever pulled their muzzle off. Truthfully, they're so used to them that they don't try to pull them off. These muzzles have just become a part of life and neither of my girls has any problem wearing one. When they see the muzzles, they sit nicely and are more than happy to put their face in as I hold the muzzle out. They seem to know it means family time. When wearing their muzzles, they get along great and play together without any aggression. They're very active, athletic dogs and wearing these particular muzzles has allowed them to remain so. Neither their vision nor their breathing is hindered in the least. They both realized right away that they could drink with no difficulty. They even snuggle together for naps, just like they used to. I think it puts them on equal footing, and since they know they can't fight, they don't even bother. I know it's the muzzles that make the difference because when they're not wearing them, hackles are raised and they still snarl at each other through a gate. I don't ever leave the dogs unattended with the muzzles on. I have this great fear of someone getting caught on something or somehow getting them off and fighting. During those times, they're in separate rooms. I also take the muzzles off and put up a baby gate every few hours and at meal times, just to give them a break. However, given the choice, my 3 dogs want to be together, so they do wear their muzzles for many hours at a time. The one problem we had was with rubbing on the tops of the dogs' snouts. Like I said, my dogs do wear these a lot, but the rubbing was enough to cause discomfort and rub fur off. I added some neoprene padding and that took care of the issue, but I'd like to see more padding in the design. I'm so happy that someone recommended muzzles and this brand specifically. I was so afraid of the logistics of keeping my dogs separated while still providing plenty of love and attention and exercise to each of them. I was scared of what would happen if I made a mistake and forgot to close a door. How would we go hiking? How would we take road trips? With the Baskerville Ultra Muzzles, I can have my loves together and we can do all of the things we've always done. These have simply become part of our daily routine and everyone is safe and happy and loved. I hope we can work through the aggression to the point that we won't need the muzzles. But, if not I know we'll be okay and I can't explain how much that means.

Very impressed with the Baskerville Ultra Muzzle. It feels strong and well made, and the design is both secure and comfortable for my dog. The fit is adjustable and allows for panting and drinking, which is really important. Once fitted properly, it stays in place without causing discomfort or rubbing. The quality is excellent and gives peace of mind in public situations. Overall, a reliable and thoughtfully designed muzzle—highly recommend.

the dog owners dilemma..something made the dog more fearful and yet avoiding all dogs is impossible. you either pull them along in town and frighten everyone including your dog, or you go to open ground and get dragged by leads due to it being a scenting dog and every other dog is off lead which in a pack doesnt work as one copies the other..so you take them seperate and get desperate. some are on lead some are not and just a nightmare if you have a pack of dogs. visibility on public paths is really poor in most areas and you cant know when a dog will come around a corner or bushes..unexpected things like horses or joggers well you cant always train for everything and when you try the horse owners assume your eyeing up stealing them and erect fencing so your miles away. my girl loves to swim and retrieve (only downside) and is super duper high energy needing to run run run (pointer cross collie maybe) having found she is a total escape artist..getting out of harnesses..halti's...collars..its been a long expensive journey with a lot of apologies. to the point now where my heart races and she has no hope of behaving well as im so nervous and worried she will get off the lead-walking her in the village means she has to confront her fears without escape and pants before every corner which cant be fun. so....muzzle time. had i a low-medium energy dog not of her breed perhaps id have have said ok-but no..she has double the energy release needs than that of my collie. it all builds up and you have a nerve bundle, miserable dog at home who has to watch pining as you go on trips with the others in the car who never gets to swim or run..as everyone knows long leads can be a danger..and fear goes above any good training ive found. i HAVE to find a compassionate way to help her so she has options of socialising or keeping away. i trained her to like it using treats..and though when she gets hot it does irritate her and she tries to remove it..also when dogs come out of the water with sticks she can have a go as she wants a stick /ball and cant have it due to the muzzle which i know is frustrting. but it is the price i pay for calming my nerves, her security so that she is not accused of biting, and everyone else too. im lucky in that its not fighting as such just charge with growl/bark so i never have to intervene i just shout oi and she runs back to me and we are working on it during the week with critical distance..i go lonely places at lonely times to reduce this and let her expend that energy and then when its expended ive taken her to apopular off lead park a good way from mine where i can visibly see whos on lead and avoid as on lead dog gets a fright and my girl gets reinforced as dog cant respond for her to learn. my god what a different dog on lead in village or off in an open space..ive been pleasantly surprised at how her issues are nowhere near what it looks like on lead , at one point being surrounded by dogs and two chiwahwahs in tutus without her even bothered..she was obsessed with the swimming. yes there is the odd shouty person but usually i try and approoach at distance and explain what im doing and ive had such positive responses, the odd not so but its rare.if you go somewhere where they take them to socialise you find they are much more accustomed to normal dog behaviour than other places where its mostly on lead.last encounter she saw 5 big dogs on a narrow path and came running back to me..major breakthrough-ive found its bigger dogs..fast dogs that she most worried about especially on a narrow path -after some time i have no doubt she will either play with them or keep with me and not react anymore as she seems to be getting caalmer about the whole thing now ive used muzzle and given her freedom back as she isnt bubbling over with excess energy..im super reassured as ive tested this muzzle ages before i met dogs and she cant get it off at all. the plastic is really strong..you can feed treats though its difficult..and the metal clasp is 100% safer than the previous model which always snapped..i dont use the head strap. also i didnt know about the stretching it to fit in hot water tip...so i now have one spare as its too big but ill give it to a rescue. my fear was always- "right, what if i keep it away from dogs and everyone forever and then suddenly lead breaks..dogs runs into their face, etc etc.."i dont feel ok or like a responsible dog owner not to have socialized her at all as a rule and then blaming others if their dogs get a bite i find that crazy..a lead is not infallible and doesn't excuse no good training, and what if it bit a child while on lead..of course its still your dogs fault!! you cant say well it shouldn't have ran up to my dog!-and seeing people hiding behind cars and all sorts in my neighborhood it feels like pacman and just crazy stressful and nothing for the dogs needs really. it was amazing how seeing her on lead made me terrified to let her go..restrict her life-only to realize later its nowhere near it off lead-i wish everyone knew that on lead behavior can even be total opposite to off and not to let it scare them off socializing and getting their needs met. to be fair..a good number of jack russels and esp frenchies and so , do what she does with owners never thinking its a problem yet theres me going bright red and feeling terrible..so i hope people realize i really do and am really working on it all for the good of my dog and others x if you too are in this position i really recommend this muzzle. ive binned all the others and no longer need to worry about somehow losing hold of her nor horrid walks on the block with useless cheese and disapproving looks and evenings spent trying to wear her out in the house without a minute peace!im very confident that this is far better and more humane way at reducing aggression than other methods.and actually now see that pulling her around on a cord when she is terrified was actually super cruel increasing her fear, ihope in future shame gets removed from dog ownership..its not always the owners fault..esp when we take on rescues and judging others is awful and non supportive, this removes that isolation and everyone feels better x andbest yet your dog has a life again. last point..ive tried lots of "less intimidatin" looking muzzles..and concluded that it is massvively risky to use on on a whole walk..dogs NEED to pant or they can die during their walk..soo dangerous..she kept collapsing with another well known one ancol i believe..if its needed for the length of a walk..ALWAYS use an open one and not one where the dogs jaw is kept nearly close..-stuff what others think or that it "looks" like your dog is more dangerous..appeasing others wouldnt be on your priority list if your dog dies in the process -educate owners that look worried about it..
