Brinsea Ecoglow Safety 600 Chick or Duckling Brooder, Up to 20 Chicks

This is the most amazing piece of chic equipment I have seen over the last 50 years. It's inexpensive and friggin works! Now, a few suggestions. Make sure it is in a box of some sort that drafts can be controlled , it not going to work outside or in an unheated building, so stop whining. We are off grid, the kitchen has it own system with a 300 ah liphos battery . Runs all night, needle never moves.

The size is great. My 5 ducklings fit nice under it with plenty of room. We will see how well it works after they are 3 weeks old since they grow so fast. But seems like it will be just fine for them. There is no noise from the plate. It definitely works well and the clear cover it comes with is a lifesaver when it comes to cleaning. Putting it together was super easy. I pushed the legs in at first to get it through that new plastic feel. But twisting is super easy. Adjusting the legs while in the brooder is simple. Thinking of purchasing the larger one since I plan on adding to my flock again next year.

This heater works well and seemed more natural for the chicks, like a mother hen. At first I was a little unsure if my chicks were warm enough. You do kind of have to teach them to use it, by gently pushing them under the heat plate. However, after the first day of helping them get into a routine of coming out to eat and drink, they got the hang of it. Overall, I'm really impressed with it, and feel like my birds have feathered out quicker. They hardly use it now at five weeks old and like to lay near it or roost on top of it. I think they'll be more than ready to go outside in a week or two, because they've grown up adapting to the cooler air in my basement because their not constantly under heat like when using a heat lamp. The only thing I would like to see improved is the heat plate cover. It works well at keeping the poop off the actual heater, but it is very flimsy, making it difficult to clean because it has so much flex to it. I would also like to have some kind of attachment so the chicks cannot roost on it. They just make a huge mess! LOL. Anyway, that's not enough of a problem to take away a star. This is an excellent five star product and MUCH safer than a heat lamp. I'm going to carefully pack it away for my next batch of chicks after these ones go outside.

As a first time chick hatcher I was preparing for every contingency. I really didn’t want to use a light for safety reasons. I read a ton of reviews and joined some backyard chicken groups on social media to see what others thought of the brand. Brinsea was overwhelmingly mentioned as a great option. Things went so well with our hatching that I didn’t even unpack the plate. Well, I should have known better because I needed it asap today when my hen suddenly turned on 2 chicks. I grabbed the chicks, ran inside and opened the package. Here is what sold me - I have never used one. I had no idea what I was doing and I was able to have it put together and in the brooder within minutes. I was worried it would be too big for the area, but it was the perfect size. I put it in the corner and still had a separate area for food and water and room for them to walk around. Make sure when you use it to put it at an angle. The back should be slightly higher. The front should be low enough that the chick’s back rests on the plate. I didn’t realize they had covers for the top for easy clean up. I ordered those today! When the chicks peep in the cold, I gently direct them under the plate and they quiet down and sleep. This item has taken away the stress of whether the temperature is too hot or cold. I just have to monitor its height.

I purchased this product in September of 2022. In July 2024 I found that it was breaking because the wire frayed where it goes into the brooder. I had some back-and-forth with Brinsea but they said they're willing to replace it. If so, then my four-star rating will be accurate. It's a great product when it works: the chicks seem to love it, it costs less and is safer than a heat lamp, and I think it's good for the birds to get warmth without giving up day/night cycles. They outgrow it pretty quickly so if you buy it thinking it's for 35 chicks, it'll do well on day one but feel inadequate as you stretch into weeks 2-4. I'm not sure if that's okay or if a second brooder would be a good idea; sometimes I've used a heat lamp and sometimes I've not done anything and I don't have results that are reliable enough to share. Brinsea is one of the few vendors in this space who aren't dropshipping their product; I'm not sure if the others have the warranty. If they stand behind their product that's definitely a strong plus. The spot that broke is very much in contact with chicks on a regular basis; they're going to screw with the cord. So if you get this, maybe make the effort to shield it or place it in a spot where chicks are less likely to peck it or step on it.

My Subjective Advice The capacity for this product (20 chicks) should be considered for older chicks not day old chicks. This is fine for (20) 2-3 day-old chicks, but it's a bit small for (20) 2-3 week old chicks. The 35-capacity plate is best for 20 chicks that will grow. This product is better for 8-12 chicks (because they grow!). Day old chicks & ducklings need supplemental heat for about one month before the indoor temp (no lower than 75°F) is likely sufficient enough. Consider growth when buying the product. Review Purchased this for my new batch of chicks. I no longer have broody moms, so I needed something to keep them toasty until they sprout their feathers. It is a great heating plate. Reaches the perfect temperature to keep the chicks warm without burning them or making them too hot. I use a big ole' cardboard box with wheat straw bedding. There is room for the chicks to move about. It's important to ensure the chicks can leave from under the heating plate if they get a bit warm and return when they're cold. The plate is set up in the corner to trap heat on two sides while allowing entry on two sides. My chicks are doing quite well and very happy. I'll probably be buying the 35-chick heating plate soon.

I have raised lots of chicks in a tub with a heat lamp. I always had worries about temperature and keeping them too hot or too cold. Risk of fire is always a concern, and of course, the electric bills are pretty crazy while you've got the lamp on 24/7. Heat lamps are also unpleasant for chicks. They get bright light 24 hours a day, and they are always exposed. The norm is a loud bunch of chicks doing a lot of stress chirping. This radiant heat source was everything I hoped it would be. I don't worry about fires. I don't worry about keeping the right temperature for the chicks. I don't worry about baking them alive. The chicks like it too. They get to huddle under this heater and feel safe. They are much quieter as a result, because they are content and not constantly stressed out. I really should have bought this long ago. I purchased this heater (bigger than I needed) and started it at 3 inches high at the front end and a bit lower on the back end so that that chicks could pick the amount of contact they wanted. As they grow, it is easy to adjust. A protective plastic cover is easy to clean, since they love to sit on top of it. I have this heater set up in a fully screened pop-up playpen meant for small puppies, and the chicks just couldn't be happier. I did have to teach them how to use it. I know on the videos I have seen the chicks run right under it when they are introduced, but I didn't have this exact experience. My chicks did run in and out underneath it but didn't seem to get it. I had to listen for the stress chirping, and go shove them under there. After a few hours, everyone had gotten the hang of it. Honestly the easiest experience with raising chicks I have ever had.

I bought two of these on May 14, '24 for my 17 chicks that arrived on May 23. I set both heat plates up in the brooder. One set a little higher for the larger chicks, one a little lower for the smaller chicks. Both heat plates were working great. They heated up quickly and maintained a safe, but warm temperature. The chicks separated into two groups under the heat plates. In the middle of day two, the chicks under one of the plates began complaining. Upon investigating the source of their discomfort, I found that one of the heat plates was not working. I traced the cord and plug to be sure that it was well seated in the socket, which it was. I unplugged the non-working heat plate and found a different socket. The heat plate did not work in the new socket. It has been placed in the storage shed for repackaging and returning to Amazon. Thankfully, I had an older heat plate, not a Brinsea, that had been in storage for almost five years. Thankfully, it began heating the second I plugged it into the same original socket that the now non-working Brinsea had occupied. We are now on day seven, and both the Brinsea and the other model are still producing heat. Now, for the pros on the Brinsea. It comes with a clear protective, flat cover for the top to protect it from chick messes. My different model has a triangular-shaped cover, making it impossible for chicks to stand on. The Brinsea comes with a nice long cord, making it easy to reach sockets that may be further away from the brooder's placement. The heat from the Brinsea is consistent without hot or cold spots. The legs are adjustable to easily accommodate different-sized chicks. One side can be higher than the other, so smaller and larger chicks can share the Brinsea. Note to size. My 17 chicks, including a Jersey Giant and an assortment of Wyandottes, Cochins, and Bielefelders, barely fit under the heat plate. Beware of claims of accommodating a higher number of chicks unless you are raising banty hens.

Cuando me llego el eco glow me pareció un poco caro y el plástico pensé que no iba a ser muy util. Pero ahora lo amo y mis pollitos tambien. Ya voy por la cuarta parvada y hasta ahora todo es miel sobre hojuelas. Las ventajas 1. Es facil de graduar la altura e incluso de puede poner a alturas diferentes para hacer al pollito mas cómodo. 2. No emite luz nocturna. 3. Es muy seguro para los pollos no hay superficies que quemen horrible ni circuitos expuestos. 4. No calienta el ambiente el pollito puede acomodarse solo en donde el quiera y alejarse del calor (importante si tienes dias muy calidos al medio dia) 5. El plastico protector transparente hace que la limpieza sea muy facil. Desventajas 1. No es para exterior Una cosa importante que tener en cuenta es; que al tocar la parte de abajo esta realmente caliente.

Feels hot to the touch and i was worried about our ducklings getting burned. But i watched them closely and it hasn't been an issue. They love it. I set the back at lower height than the front. Easily fits my 4 indian runners from hatch to 3 wks old. They are 3 wks old today and now only 3 fit under it. I'm ordering a larger size to get them to 6 weeks old.
