Works great for quinoa; clean it with a bristled brush
Works great for our quinoa preparation. We needed a strainer fine enough to avoid letting the quinoa through the cracks and this has done the trick. The biggest downside to the strainer is that you can't put it through the dishwasher because of the wooden handle, but that's honestly not that big of a deal because it's so easy to clean. At first I thought it was impossible to clean because the quinoa would seem to get trapped between the two layers of mesh. When I would run water at full blast through the strainer, the quinoa would hang tightly on. However, I use a bristled brush now and that does just the trick of poking between the layers to dislodge fallen quinoa. Now I have no problem cleaning the strainer and it works great for my purposes. I definitely recommend using a brush. With that being said, there will still be some quinoa that never gets removed, 5-10 pieces per use I would say. And I've learned to just let that go. Maybe it'll come out on its own in the future. But the vast majority of stuck quinoa can be easily removed.

Not Ideal for Greek Yogurt
This is a well-made strainer that is ideal for many kitchen tasks. I am reluctant to give it a low rating, but I bought it specifically for straining Greek yogurt, a function the manufacturer claims in the product description, and have found it unsatisfactory for this task.Prior to buying this strainer, I used cheesecloth to strain my yogurt, but found it impractical to clean the cheesecloth and wasteful to throw it out each time. Some of the yogurt stuck to the cheesecloth as well, so I looked for a better, reusable solution. The product description claims, "...excellent to strain anything from Pumpkins to guava purees, batches of rice, Greek yogurt or Kefir" and "No cheesecloth necessary!"Ordinarily I use 4 cups of milk to make yogurt; I strain it for 1-2 hours and the yield is about 3 cups of yogurt. When I used this strainer, I noticed that even when I poured it gently into the strainer, some yogurt seeped through. As I drained it, a small amount of yogurt seemed to collect with the whey, but it did not look like enough to matter. However, when I scooped the strained yogurt into a storage container, I had only about 2 cups of actual yogurt. A lot of yogurt clung to the strainer. It rinsed clean easily, but all of that "clingage," plus the yogurt in the whey, added up to about a cup of yogurt. Though still cheaper than store-bought Greek yogurt, this is not a good yield for the amount of time it takes to create it.I have since learned that it is better to use a bandana or similar cloth to strain yogurt rather than cheesecloth or a strainer. Only the whey goes through the cloth and the yogurt peels right off the cloth when you are done straining. Live and learn.I would recommend this strainer for many other tasks, as it is nicely made, but if you are purchasing it specifically to strain yogurt, I would advise you to buy a bandana instead.

Works awesome! I use it for my bone broth soup
Works awesome! I use it for my bone broth soup, and it clarifies the broth almost as well as cheese cloth, but MUCH easier to clean. I really like the fact that the two small wire holders on the opposite side of the handle are curved down so the strainer doesn't slide off the edge of the bowl while I'm pouring stuff into it. Its really sturdy, holding 3 lbs. of cooked veggies and bones without bending a centimeter. So easy to clean! I just flipped it over after dumping the stuff inside, put a small amount of dish detergent on the mesh, then took a soft bristle brush and scrubbed it inside and out. I would recommend NOT putting it in the dishwasher due to the handle being wood, but it's so easy to clean that putting in the dish washer really isn't necessary.

Great Strainer and Big!
So far so good! I love this strainer with the double mesh, we do a lot of cooking with rice, lentils and other grains and can say that this works perfect for rinsing all our grains so far. The mesh is fine and allows plenty of water to pass thru but holds all the grain. We found this is also big enough to place over a pot and use for steaming! The wood in the handle is a bit on the weak side but as long as you aren't too rough with it, it should last a long time. We give this a big thumbs up!

Sturdy and BIG!
I make lots of home made soups and stews and that means lots of home made stock. This requires lots of straining of roasted vegetables and meats. This big, sturdy strainer is perfect for the job! Only problem is that food particles get caught in the outer, sturdy screen and it's a real pain to clean out!

Good for rinsing rice
This is a nice strainer for rinsing rice - which is the main reason I purchased it. I tried rinsing some quinoa in it and they sort of got stuck in between the mesh pieces which made it harder to clean, I kind of had to bang it out on the edge of the sink, you know? Some quinoa went flying and then I had to clean that up too. So that's kind of a downside. But if your rinsing rice or straining noodles or making pot butter this thing works pretty good!

Soft foods get stuck in the double mesh holes!
I bought this strainer a few years ago and I don't use it often so it's still in good shape. The problem is that when I do use it, mostly for making and straining small portions of pasta for mac and cheese, it is extremely hard to clean and get all the pieces of the soft pasta out of these double mesh holes. I've put it in the dishwasher and it still doesn't get totally clean. The problem is that the double set of holes overlap and thus it's easy for soft foods to get stuck. If you're just using it for washing fruits and veggies it'd probably be fine. I started using a silicone strainer for pasta and it's much easier to keep clean.

Great Kitchen Tool
I've used this strainer a few times and do like it. It has a double layer of mesh made up of two different sizes. The last time I used it was to strain a hot custard to remove any curdled egg that may have formed when putting it together. It got any and all lumps out and the flan turned out nice and smooth.

5-year review
I bought this 5 years ago.Mesh strainers always seem to break, so I bought this hoping it would be more durable. It is!The wood in the handle is a bit square on the edges - would be a bit more comfortable to hold if those edges were rounded. But overall, no complaints - I'm happy to have a strainer that lasts.

Strong but difficult to clean
I bought this primarily for washing and straining rice and lentils but have also used it for straining pureed fruit, homemade ice cream and seiving flour. It does all of these things well and the double mesh is strong - it has never bent at all. However I must strongly disagree with the description where it says "food bits don't get lodged in those tight meshes". Of course they do - how could they not? Dry food isn't too bad, but if you strain anything wet, such as cooked rice or an ice cream base, you really have to scrub it immediately with a brush (a cloth or sponge won't do). I once forgot and it took a long time to scrub off dried-on cooked rice. It does take longer to clean than a single-mesh seive, even when you wash it immediately, and you have to leave it to dry standing upright on your draining board because water collects in the lip around the edge of the mesh and the only way to get it out is to let it drip down the handle. The handle looked good in the photo but unfortunately it has only been stained on the long sides, the top and bottom have been left as bare wood, which is a shame.

Quite Satisfied.
The product arrived quickly and as advertised. It seems to be a very well made product and performs as expected. The only caveat, owing to the wooden handle, is that I am reluctant to put it into my dishwasher for fear of it deteriorating. However, this consideration is minor and I was well aware of it before purchasing the product and therefore, I can't fault the seller.I would recommend the purchase of this product to my friends and others.

A very solid strainer which handles small fine foods, and larger foods alike.
I was surprised how solid this strainer is, the handle feels very sturdy and doesn't bow even with a strainer full of veg.The generous capacity means I reach for the colander less - although I bought this primarily for straining lentils and rice, itโs perfect for a side of veg for up to 4 people. It also feels sturdy when sat atop a pan or large jug for straining juices for gravy, and no danger of melting as with plastic alternatives. It strains as any fine strainer does, the double mesh just adds stability to the bowl. I can see this lasting a very long time.
