What I wanted was not so much a letter opener as an accessory for a Renaissance costume. I didn't want a sharp object that could cut somebody. I didn't want something expensive. I didn't want something costume chintzy. So I had lots of "don'ts" to work around. I would have liked something a little larger than this letter opener was, but as a compromise it was the best solution for me. And as I am using it as a dagger like accessory for a lady's costume it is quite alright that it's small. it will fit into a waist dagger holder just fine. The metal engraved dagger handle and the engraved parts of the scabbard are good looking, detailed. The scabbard is "black" leather. The picture looks blue; it isn't. The blade is made of a heavy metal and is not going to break off. The edges are beveled. Though it not sharp it could hurt a child, so this isn't for use on a costume for small children. I'm working with teens here. When the dagger is in the scabbard the piece measures about 11" in all. This company does make a very similar item that is a couple of inches longer. It is made in Spain.The price was certainly affordable and it can be used as a letter opener as it was designed to be after the event. A nice memory piece for my granddaughter to have forever. I'm very happy with the purchase.If I had a complaint it would be that the seller could have fashioned a much nice box for gift giving. The packaging is okay, but a gift box would have been that much nice. Still.....I'm very pleased with my purchase.

These swords are fabulous. Nice quality. I'm using them as a giveaway for something warrior themed, so they're perfect. Some of them with a design that aligns against the top of the scabbard don't fit EXACTLY. They do fit into the scabbard, just not with the exact precision of--say--a Lego. For the price I think that they're excellent. The detail is very good. The material of both the sword piece and the scabbard is a very good quality, especially if you consider the great price. I bought several in different styles. The swords are NOT sharp, which is possibly a purposeful part of the design. They're letter openers, not real weapons. They are heavy and well made and a great size.

A very attractive miniature, not sharp but more than sturdy enough to be a good letter opener. The details are wonderful. It's probably worth noting that, while this is perfectly safe for adult use, it has a point and probably should not be used by young children.

Very nice letter opener and the scabbard is an added safety bonus. The value is great too.

A friend needed a new letter opener so I decided on getting something different. It looks amazing, the sword & the scabbardare so realistic. I will be buying one for my father.

Gave this as a gift and the recipient was very happy. Seems sturdy and looks very nice in person.

Not sharp enough to be effective. I am surprised at that since it comes with a sheath.
