DO NOT BUY THIS ITEM YOU WILL REGRET IT! IT'S NOT WORTH IT!
The ring lens attachment got stuck to my camera lens, even though it's the proper sized ring for my camera/lens, according to the instruction manual that came with the product. Now I am stuck with this attachment on my camera forever, unless I want to break my current/standard lens or buy a new lens (not happening anytime soon unfortunately). Horrible, crappy item. It lasted 2 days for me with barely any use at all because the product sucks up battery life like crazy. Unless you're prepared to buy endless amounts of batteries for this product to continuously work when you need it to, DO NOT BUY.

Polaroid is still in the business of breaking your heart.
The demise of Polaroid instant film was traumatic for a lot of us, and as a result their name will forever be weighted with loss for me. So, I hadn't really noticed what their brand has been up to in recent years. But it seems that name can be found on a variety of electronic photo gadgets these days, and when I was looking for an inexpensive ring flash, I picked this one, and I'm sure the name had something to do with that choice. And it seems that Polaroid is still in the business of building you up and letting you down. The ring flash was fine out of the box. All the pieces were in place to make it easy to hook up to my Canon 6D, and I played around with it for a while to get a feel for it. Its features worked as described in the instructions, all the LEDs lit up, and it was about as bright as you would expect for the price. Content enough, I packed it up in my camera bag, ready for quick setup when called for. When I did need it, a month or so later, it was dead -- no indicator lights, nothin'. New batteries made no difference. It's dead. This is an ex-ring-flash. This gadget has ceased to be. Since I discarded the packaging after trying it out the first time, the dead flash is mine now. Now it will go to that box in the attic where all my other dead Polaroid products sit, because I can't accept that this is all they were good for. (This may be a problem I should seek help for, now that I think about it.)

I hoped the ring flash would work better in the animal cages
I ordered this item to use taking cat photos at local humane society to place on website. I hoped the ring flash would work better in the animal cages.I first found that the amount of red eye was extreme and could not be removed satisfactorily for me.Next was the lower amount of power the unit puts out. I had read the reviews talking about this but thought at the relative close range, 5-10 feet, that it would be fine. Max distance, without cranking up the ISO above 800, is five feet or less.Last was that using it with my Canon 5D mark II I had problems with auto focus. I believe another review may have mentioned this. The ring blocks the sensor on the camera and the unit doesn't transmit its own IR beam for AF to lock on.As many have mentioned it will work great for document photos and similar work. There were also comments about the battery compartment door and problems latching. That is an issue I resolved by using something thin, like a plastic knife, to help hold the batteries closest to the hinge, down against their springs, which allowed the door to come on down and close.I hope this info helps.

It's not all bad
First off for under $50 I did not expect much. It's bright has no TTL, but it works as intended.I tested this on a 5Dc with a Canon EF 28-70mm f/2.8 L USM and a Canon EF 50mm f/1.2 L USM. First thing I noticed is at 50mm you will see some of the flash unit in the lens, not a big deal but kind of annoying. The second thing is when you get too close to the subject or go under 50mm it becomes increasingly hard to focus, At 28mm I could see so much of the flash and it was so bright that the auto focus was useless. And the last thing is the lack of a TTL you are going to have to use manual setting. You can work around this by leaving the light on.The cons-No TTL be prepared to use manual settings and manual focus in some instances-Kind of makes a low humming when you leave it on-The lowest light setting is way to bright with almost no difference between low and high-Some flash sync issues, easily fixable with a restart to the unit-Too bight to really use as a macro lightThe Pros-Under $50-Gets really brightAll in all if your not scared of venturing into the manual settings it can be a useful light.

Great for the price
This is pretty good in terms of price-point!I am honestly surprised at how well this works. It does function as a flash on my Canon T3i, but it washes out the photos, so I just use it for filming. It's super bright (almost too bright at times...heh), but the battery pack gives off this humming/buzzing kind of noise that's pretty irritating, because (as mentioned earlier) I use it mainly for filming.

Good enough for the price
Doing a round of test shots, I found that using this for portraiture may present an issue. In order to properly expose the images for a human subject (with my 50mm lens set to f5 for optimal subject focus), I had to bump up my ISO to 400, as well as have the flash at full strength. Good quality images so far. Requires come more tinkering and shooting before I can land on a final decision, as I'm sure this'll be great with additional lighting and/or reflectors, but, so far, definitely seems a good buy for the price.

Got this for my wife's camera. She uses it ...
Got this for my wife's camera. She uses it for blogging. Her feedback on it is that the light is not bright enough and it makes a sound when it is on. The sound comes through in her videos and she cant silence it all out. She ended up getting a standup ring light which is power operated because this one did not work well for her

Nothing bad about it.
First off I like that it is cheaper than a regular flash. It doesn’t wigh down the camera either it’s light weight, easy to assemble. Comes with attachments for many different lenses too. Good price!

Exactly what I needed/expected
I thought it was DOA at first, but then read in the instructions that you need to hold the "on/off" button down for 3-4 seconds for the unit to power up. It's made of plastic which makes it a bit fragile but it still doesn't feel really "cheap", and the fact that it is plastic makes it light as a feather. I'm using this with a 5Dmk3 and it works great, I can bring my f-stop up to 11 or so, now my macro shots don't have razor thin DOF and more of the objects are in focus. I also really like the "light" function, it gives a cool light ring effect in the subjects eyes that I've always liked seeing in music videos and whatnot, will definitely be using this light a lot!EDIT: Don't do what I did and accidentally attach the adapter to a filter, in my case a UV filter. It took me a pair of rubber gloves and a lot of elbow grease to get the adapter to come off. FYI: the harder you squeeze the plastic ring while trying to turn it the less likely it is to come off, it wasn't until I pinched it with two fingers and pulled on it that it started to budge, then it came off easily.

Schade eigentlich.
