Great projector, possibly the best for less than $1000
I did my research on a couple of sites and chose this projector as the best 3D capable 1080p projector for less than $1000. The other contender on my short list was the Benq W1070. In spite of the Benq's superior black level though I chose the Epson because I preferred a 3LCD to a DLP projector. I don't know if I am subject to seeing rainbows from DLP projectors or not, and figured after ceiling mounting my new projector in my newly built basement theater room was not the best time to find out. The Epson also has superior color out of the box according to at least one review site. The black level definitely isn't up to that of many projectors costing two or three times as much, but it is adequate. This is really only noticeable in scenes dominated by dark values. In more mixed scenes the contrast is more than adequate. The color and detail are amazing, and the brightness even in Eco mode is more than enough for rooms that aren't fully darkened, and even in 3D the regular mode is more than bright enough. My room was built as a mixed use entertainment room so it isn't optimized as a theater. The walls are light beige and the flooring is light oak colored wood laminate and there is one window in the back with only a regular curtain over it, but this projector is still more than bright enough for superb viewing day or night. The fan noise is something I was concerned about from the reviews but after using the projector a few weeks I wonder what the fuss is all about. Yes, on the brightest mode it is audible, but only in quiet scenes and I really don't notice it unless I'm trying to do so. It really is no more disturbing than, say, the sound from the fans in many central AC set ups.I'm less keen on the Epson ceiling mount (though that's a separate review) because it tends to move when locked down so getting it just right can be an annoying trial. But once locked down it's fine. The zoom range on the projector is not great but since I was able to mount it anywhere I wanted along the ceiling of a long room it was no issue for me. I chose a location more or less in the middle of the zoom range which filled my screen, a wall 11' wide and thus approximately 150" diagonally in 16:9 mode.Speaking of screens, I tried just painting the wall oyster shell white and found this was more than good enough. Being into film photography I also have a top quality portable screen for slide projection and I compared images side by side and honestly could tell no difference. Before spending a lot of money on a dedicated screen or that special (and expensive!) screen paint, I suggest just trying painting the wall white. Flat might seem ideal but is impossible to clean if it ever gets the slightest smudge. The oyster shell works great. The Epson glasses work very well, are light weight, fit over my prescription glasses and are quick to charge. They are a bit pricey, however. I got three pair with the projector so my wife, myself, and one guest could watch 3D movies, but I do plan to try a pair of the $20 Samsung glasses said to be compatible and see how they work. If they work well I will add to my 3D glasses collection by adding a few more pairs of those. I will check back in with that information when available.3D content from Blu-Ray or the limited 3D streams available online looks absolutely amazing with this projector. The 2D display is also superb. I don't think I could have bought a significantly better projector without paying a lot more, and even then the differences become slighter and slighter as you go up in price.

Nice picture, quiet when on Eco.
This is a nice little projector for the money. When you are running it on Eco mode, it is nice and quiet. The picture is absolutely GORGEOUS, and it works well even when your windows aren't blacked out in your bedroom-converted-to-a-movie-room and you just HAVE to watch Star Trek: Into Darkness because you finally got your projector up. Plenty of options for fine-tuning your picture and lining up your projector. Excellent keystone tuning.Couple of negatives, though. The auto-iris is noisy (the clicking noise drove me so nuts we shut it off) and the fan can be as noisy as any other off the Eco setting. The lamp went out after five days, and we had to get another. It took a bit to get since the first customer service person just left it go when they saw replacement lamps on backorder and didn't even let us know. However, the second person we spoke to (when we called to find out why we hadn't received the lamp in 3-5 days as promised) went the extra mile and pulled a lamp from production stock - staying late to make sure he got it and to give us a call back confirming its shipment.Overall, this is a fabulous unit in its own right, not just despite its price. I recommend if you want a great picture without forking over four figures for a projector, but don't want to spend hundreds on a piece of junk. We're pretty picky about picture quality and this unit definitely delivers.

Awesome
Wow, I really love this projector. Picture quality is amazing, 3d is unbelievable good, much better than theaters, in fact, you can't even compare the both. I am totally in love with this thing. For the price I truly believe it is one of the best projectors. Here are the big pluses, it is bright even in a lit up room, the picture quality is amazing in blu ray and when using PC, relatively cheap considering all the features you are getting, $20 for the 3d glasses as it does work with Samsung glasses. In fact, I actually borrowed my brother's samsung 3d glasses for the first weekend I had my projector. On top of that, the replacement bulb is only 99 dollars, way lower than any other projector also lowest of all Epsons. This really was the big one for me, I could have afforded the 1500 Epson but I read the bulbs on it blew faster and it costs $240. Screw that. The remote also works great and the on screen menu is easy to use, also it worked my Panasonic blu ray straight out of the box. A few cons, I don't like the keystone adjustment, I played around with it a lot but don't find it all that impressive or beneficial, also I am sort of a videophile and the slanted picture annoyed me. I am also new to projectors so I don't know the alternatives very well. It doesn't have lens shift so adjusting and aligning it against the wall it is kind of a pain. Heard some people complain about the fan but I didn't really seem to bother me at all. I think having lens shift on it would have helped quiet a bit. I have it sitting ~14 feet away from the wall and it displays a screen size of nearly 140-150 inch, which is massive at 14 feet, so I think they did a great job. This is like one of those items that somehow a manufacturer makes that so good for what you pay that it is almost hard to believe. I have had it for a month and I am very happy, and I still can't believe I actually have a theater in my basement.
