Humane and easy to use
Works great. Have captured several nuisance chipmunks that were causing damage to our vehicles.

Outstanding Live Animal Trap
I rarely write reviews but this live animal trap works so well and is gentle on the animals, I had to let others know. I have a huge number of chipmunks around my house in the Rocky Mountains and they are destroying plants. I have trapped over 100 chipmunks in 4 weeks. I relocate them and start over. The most I've caught at one time has been eight. The attached photo shows seven. I've also caught Richardson Ground Squirrels (prairie dogs) and Golden Mantled Ground Squirrels. The chipmunks were able the break one of the bars and bend it in so they could breakout but I put some fencing over the hole for an easy repair.

Works good but the construction of the trap is weak
Worked great on the first squirrel, caught in a day of having the trap out. On the forth day of being out a squirrel broke one of the trap doors off. The welds broke off and the door was laying in the bottom of the trap. I just closed off that opening for now and Im just using the one trap door for now. Not too impressed with the construction, figured it would last more than a few days. Waiting on a response from the company about a replacement trap or door.

The quality control pre-packaging inspection missed a major issue but trap works when fixed.
There does not seem to be any quality control inspection on these after being made and before packaging into product box.The one I got today had a issue with one of the doors. The 4 crimping pieces were not put on in the correct spot causing the door to rub against the inside part of the cage. The door would not go down all the way like the other door, leaving a 1/2 to 3/4 inch opening that the chipmunks would have went right out thru. If it was even mildly inspected after being made that would have been noticed.A small flat screwdriver, a needle nose pliers and a small dental style pick is what I used to remove and reposition the crimping parts. Be careful NOT to tighten them too much if this is needed by you or door will not swing freely.I removed all 4 of the crimps and repositioned them and door now works like it should.I set the trap inside my garage and caught one in 10 minutes. It was trying hard to get out of the cage but could not. Over time, as another reviewer has said, it would figure out how to get out, or just get lucky and escape.I locked it as it says and relocated him farther out in the country.I opened the large removal door on top and had to hold trap on end, so chimpunk was on bottom. It then climbed up, finding door, and was gone.If this continues to work I'll most likely edit my review to 5 stars.I do think it's a bit overpriced for what it is but that's pretty much a common thing now, no matter what the product is.EDIT:As stated above.. I have changed this to a 5 star review. It works great. The most I caught at one time is two and that's been twice so far, but I check every hour. The key for me seems to be putting a few seeds right by the "entry doors" as well as a small "pile" in the middle. That really helps to get them into the trap.

it's not the best construction. We were infested with chipmunks
Got this from Amazon, purchase went smooth. It arrived Thursday. As I type this, I have just returned from re-locating Chipmunks 17,18,19 & 20. That's right, 20 rotten little excavating vermin in 4 days.I would give it 4 stars, but it's just not very well put together, and it doesn't come with one word of instruction, and you can't any instruction for it on Rugged Ranch's website. While mine seems to work quite well, I had to do a little work to one of the doors to get it to work correctly. Nothing major, just a little squeeze with a pliers, but really, it's not the best construction. We were infested with chipmunks, which has never happened before, as we have had a huge Red-Tailed Hawk living in our woods for the 15 years we've lived here. Well, he's either flown off to the great beyond, or relocated, but once he stopped hunting in the yard, the little buggers are everywhere, and they are destructive. They are digging out under walkways, buildings, and worst of all, the little Chiprats destroyed my Tomato crop. Made me want to shoot them. But- While I am in a rural locale, it wouldn't be safe to pick them off with a .22, so I have been trying to trap them. But one at a time, with a Havahart trap wasn't working. Hard to bait, don't always trigger, and you can only get one before having to re-set the trap. So the Chipmunkinator solves all those issues. And you get to tell people you have a Chipmunkinatorโฆ..I use Stokes Songbird Blend birdseed. I set the trap on our concrete patio, right against the house. It works best on a hard, even surface, since you just drop bait in the cage. Set the trap in the shade, or you WILL kill the chippies you catch in a couple of hours. They are small, and wearing a fur coat. They will overheat and die if left for extended time in the sun. If it's in the shade, they just sit in the trap and eat until you move them. You need to check the trap a couple of times a day.I put a big pile of seed in the middle of the trap, and trail a small stream out the doors. If you skimp on the seed, they won't make the effort to go get it. They are foragers, looking for an easy meal. They won't chase a couple of seeds. With that technique, I am catching them 2 to 4 at a time. If you get 4 in there, you will hear them, they get pretty cranky. Letting them out can be tricky, because they are dumb, and panicked. Wear gloves, they are dirty and they bite. Unhook the top panel, and stand the trap on end and wait a minute. It takes them a minute, but they eventually figure it out and jump out.If it was built better, and the company did ANYTHING to explain use, I'd give it 5 stars. It's a little clunky, but it's better than having a yard full of filthy little excavating vermin. It really does work, very well, if you need to move out a bunch of chipmunks. When it breaks, and due to the way it's built, it will break, I WILL buy another one. Used correctly it's humane, and VERY effective.

Great! But don't leave out overnight...?
Caught 2 squirrels pretty quickly. Then a critter ripped a panel off...this happened when I left it out overnight. Maybe a bigger animal got into it, a raccoon perhaps, something strong. But got a replacement right away, happy to be back in business. Will just make sure to trap only during the day, the internet (which is NEVER wrong!) says squirrels are daytime-foragers only, so no harm in bringing it in at night, as long as I use gloves to keep the human scent off of it.

PRICY? but works and might be cheaper in long run.
UPDATE a few days later. 8 munks captured in 4 days. (twice 2 at once). Tipped it up and one got away, the trap door swings open when upside down. (caution). One door has a bit of spring action the other has no spring and flopped open as I was taking them away. = ( I THINK I recaptured this one later... I'm not cautious to keep it level. They are not HAPPY when I pick it up and make nasty noises -and bite at the wire like RATS. I recommend it, but feel the price is high for build quality. (I thin 34.95 might be top dollar for it). BUT - it works.I use to do the bucket, cover the top of the water with seeds and add a ramp. WORKED - one per day usually but the seeds are expensive and after one day they sink and are lost.I bought this - ALMOST NOT at 50 bucks. When it arrived, I was again surprised for the money it was... minimal?I don't really see the springs and wonder with them getting wet will they last or rust out quckly?Despite concerns. It works. I got one in a couple hours. Then two in there the next morning. And another one today.4 total. MANY more to go.I set it under a hostaand place a rock on top. Hosta leaves make them feel hidden. I sprinkle a LIGHT hand full of audobon mix near the openings and inside. (no big pile) very view. (feeder mix is pricy too). With all these cashes I've not had to rebate. I plug it into a rubbermaid starage bin of water wait 10 seconds and empty. . I hate killing animals of any kind unless they are MAJOR PESTS. When they go to bite me as I pick up the trap it just secures their demise. I drop it in water - walk away (I can't watch) 10 seconds I return and they'll no longer cute.they empty out safely.hoping the springs continue to work well. Seems flimsy - but time will tell. I'll update this if it doesn't give me my monies worth. I have 2 acres on a lake in the woods - lots of territory to work yet.COST? rather high. HOWEVER my old 5 gallon bucket - seeds on top trap was COSTLY... it requires a LOT of bait to float on the water in the bucket and if I had a CATCH OR NOT- the bait needed to be replaced every 24 hours. THAT WAS COSTLY. So - so far, I'm thinking it will be cheaper in the long run.Even my wife is getting into it. She checks it and says "you have a brown beauty in there". = )

Excellent trap!
Best trap out there! I live in the mountains and have a terrible problem with chipmunks. I purchased the squirrel trap first and relocated over 75 ground squirrels but the chipmunk population has grown out of control. I purchased the chipmunk trap and the first hour I caught 7! I use apples and peanuts for bait. I highly recommend these traps!
