A good idea. The bar material seems made well, and lightweight, which is important as to not put excess stress on the hotshoe mount. I do have a little difficulty each time I slide something on or off, as it seems to kind of hang up near the ends of the groove, and it's not due to the little ball bearing on the bottom of most accessories. Slot just seems a tiny bit narrower or pinched at the ends. My biggest concern over time, or if I used this more heavily than I do, is the threaded screw/rod that extends up from the hotshoe to enable you to lock it on. I've already slightly bent it once (I gently straightened it back). It's a standard 1/4-20 thread but not the best quality metal and given the length of the bar above can act as a lever, you could bend it bad or perhaps snap it with careless handling, pushing too hard to slide on an accsy, or resting the camera on it sideways once too many times. Overall a helpful add on, just be gentle.

Good idea, but keeping items tight and ridgid is nearly impossible - the rack is solidly constructed, but my overall experience with it and various accessories has been lackluster. I'll admit I'm more disappointed with the 1-star accessories than the rack itself...

I used this to build a holder for 3 Nikon SB-700's. I use the unit to take photos of birds at night. You must use a wrench to tighten all nuts, and I put lock washers under all nuts to insure nothing would move around.The flashes mounted on my D850 gives me a weight in excess of 10 pounds. The bar has the rigidity to handle this load.Well done!

for my needs, works perfect.ideal size for adding the digital recorder and an extra illumination for video on the movealso used it as a makeshift extension bar to attach a strobe for macro photography, and held well... just give it and extra turn to the screw to make sure is tight enough if your strobe is too heavy

Quality of the metal forging just isn't that good. Somewhat sharp edges and it is hard to put a cold shoe in it unless you slide it all the way from the end. Also mine isn't perfectly straight. Seems like a manufacturing defect.

1)the threaded shaft mysteriously bent rendering it useless, as I could no longer turn the tightening mechanism2) the only way this product could be useful is by turning the rail perpendicular to the body because this I the only way to mount a Rode mic and have it facing forward.

It's well-made and it serves it's purpose however something I will rarely years and could do without
