GBC BadgeMates Breakaway Lanyards with Swivel Hook, Assorted, 5 per Pack (3747213)

I have used breakaway lanyards many times before in both an industrial manufacturing setting and in a hospital. In both cases, the the previous lanyards that I have used required a fair amount of force before disconnecting. In those cases, the force was still reasonably small so that any strangulation injuries could be avoided. However, the design of this lanyard (GBC BadgeMates) requires so little force that incidental movement of a small flashlight attached or badge attached to the lanyard can result in the breakaway connector opening. The whole purpose of the breakaway connector is to allow the lanyard to function under normal forces but breakaway during excessive force in order to prevent strangulation or injury.I have another lanyard from a different manufacturer and I would estimate that this other lanyard requires at least 10 to 15 times more force before disengaging compared to the one from GBC BadgeMates. The lanyard from GBC BadgeMates disconnects with very little force. If you do not want your badges or other items connected to the lanyard to fall off your neck during routine use, then don't buy this lanyard.Furthermore, the break away connector on the GBC BadgeMates lanyard has two small male connectors that insert into a female side on the other connector. These male portions are so small that they will probably easily break under normal usage. All things considered, this is an inferior design.There should be testing done on the lanyards to indicate the amount of force it takes to breakaway the connector.

The overall design is nice. The little black plastic actually had a part where you can pry it open to remove the swivel hook. I would not, because that is why I wanted them in the first place, but it seems handy if you'd want to put something else like a keyring or something there. I tugged it quite hard, and it did not pop open on its own, so it seems sturdy. The breakaway is a bit too eager to break away. I fear that the ring of keys I clip to my lanyard sometimes at work may cause it to break away when I don't want it to. And one star off for the colors. The only one that looks close to the picture is the black. The blue is not a navy blue but a bright blue and what looks red in the picture is kind of... salmon?I may have to add a comment later after some wear testing.

So I ordered 2 packs of these "Clear" lanyards. I wanted to order a pack of all one color...whatever color clear might be...as long as it was neutral and all the same, it didn't matter as I am using them for a girl scouts event and didn't want them fighting over the color. Well, they came on time and I have them for the event, but I got 2 multi colored packs. So beware that you will likely not get "Clear" as stated here.

We used these on a week-long cruise so we wouldn't lose our room keys (which also served for all on-board charges). The variety of colors helped us to each find our own quickly on the hook in our cabin. The break-away feature is nice for safety, though we found these tended to break away a little too easily.

I am very pleased with the assorted 5 per pack lanyards; they appear well made and great colors. I loved the price and shipping was very fast. I am willing to share with two or three of my co-workers, maybe. I will recommend this seller to others and I will definitely order from this seller again.

I'm very happy with these. All the one's I've seen in stores are the novelty type or just not very professional. Safety clip comes apart very easily (maybe too easy) but it has not caused me any big problem. They are good quality. I kept one and handed out the others to some co-workers.

They look like the length should be adjustable, but so far no one has been able to figure out how to adjust them. This is for a young child, and so the default is much too big. We just tied it ourselves so that it would be shorter, and the price was low so overall it is OK.

After adjusting the length the snap would not stay closed. I stayed up one night after using the laynards for a day event and hot glued all the snaps shut. This IS NOT the breakaway part. It where the end of the lanyard is attached to the breakaway snap.
