Around The World In 80 Days (1956)

Although Sir David Niven was a decorated SAS commando and officer who gave up his career in Hollywood to fight for the survival of his country, here, instead of a commando, he plays a distinguished though eccentric English gentleman. Pair with the incomparable (and very young) Shirley MacLaine, Niven really brings the adventure of this story to life. The original story line is only marred by the slapstick comedic ending, which, nonetheless, was funny. I highly recommend it. One of my favorites.

Excellent film from the 1950s.

Jackie Chan very likeable, but story not as colorful as other version with David NIVEN.

No re-make could compare with the original starring Cantinflas and David Niven. The bullfight scene with Cantinflas and Dominguin was priceless.

Seen the movie along time ago still a very good movie. The panoramic filming was still spectacular even today.

I saw this in the theater when it was new. After the horribly reworked BBC-PBS series I had to search out the real movie. SO MUCH BETTER. Yes, it is dated and contains some not to good ethnic passages here but the movie is all around the best. Filmed on many locations, and a treat.

Phineas Fogg and Passapartout will take you around the world on an adventure like none other. In the process, they will be plagued by a constant foe. In the end, the foe will get his comeuppance.

I first saw this back when it played on TV and my family recorded it on VHS. I watched it many times as a child and enjoyed it every time. When I saw that I could buy the DVD, I jumped at the chance, and it still brings a smile to my face. I have never seen the 1956 version, but I love Pierce Brosnan as Phileas Fogg. The casting and locations were well-done, especially considering that this was a TV movie, not one released in theaters. I highly recommend it. In my opinion it stands the test of time. The DVD I purchased was of good quality. It was released in 2011 by Harmony Gold, for anyone looking.

Esta película junto con "Don Quijote Cabalga de Nuevo" son las obras cumbre de Mario Moreno ""Cantinflas"" a quien Charles Claplin calificó como el mejor mimo del mundo.Llegó antes del tiempo señalado en perfectas condiciones.Al tratarse de un DVD impreso en Estados Unidos yo temía que viniera con el candado de la Región 1 y que no pudiera reproducirse en los aparatos DVD Players de la Región 4 pero no hubo ningún problema con las Regiones, se pudo reproducir fácilmente en mi DVD Player de México.Le hubiera dado 5🌟 si esta película hubiese sido remasterizada y mejorada en sonido, color e imagen en general y doblada al español y grabada con calidad High Definición en formato Blue Ray 😤☝ !

Quel plaisir de retrouver ce dessin animé de mon enfance. Un dessin animé qui permet également aux enfants de re-découvrir l'œuvre de Jules Verne et, pourquoi pas, de se remettre à la lecture.Heureux de mon achat.

Pierce Brosnan als steifer englischer Gentlemen, ein Snob ohnegleichen geht eine Wette ein, die unerhört ist. In einer noch nie dagewesenen Zeit um die Welt zu reisen, etwas schier unmögliches zu schaffen erhitzt die Gemüter der für ihren Wetteifer bekannten englischen Gesellschaft. Jules Vernes hat mit diesem Roman das Genre des Roadmovies quasi begründet. Die Akteure stolpern auf der reise von einer Panne zur nächsten. Den englischen Gentlemen ficht nichts an und sein treuer Diener Paspartout ist immer mal wieder Retter in der Not, schließlich auch für eine bezaubernde indische Prinzessin. Neben dem Reisefieber spinnt sich noch ein zweiter Faden durch die Handlung. Der Detektiv Fitz, herrlich gespielt von Peter Ustinov versucht Fogg, den Reisenden als vermutlichen Bankräuber zu fassen und schafft es mit seinem Verfolgungseifer glatt, die Sensation auch zu vollbringen, die Reise zu verwirklichen. Auch die Liebe kommt nicht zu kurz in diesem dreiteiligen Film, der ein wirklich abendfüllendes Programm ist. Kleinere nicht synchronisierte Filmpassagen trüben etwas den Filmgenuss. Wenigstens sind Untertitel eingeblendet, so dass dieses Manko nicht reicht Bewertungssternchen abzuziehen.

GOOD

Die Handlung ist zwar schon mehrmals verfilmt worden, jedoch gefallen mir hier die Schauspieler wie Pierce Brosnan und Peter Ustinov sehr gut in den Rollen. Der Film besteht aus drei Teilen. Das finde ich insofern gut, dass man nicht den viereinhalb Stunden langen Film auf einmal sehen muss. Zu Beginn jeder Folge gibt es eine kurze Zusammenfassung über das was bisher geschah.
