Sweet Book, with a couple exceptions
This is a beautiful little book. The rhymes are charming, the illustrations beautiful and detailed and fun. I think children would love this book. However, I do have a couple concerns. First, goat registries and breeders no longer use the terms "billy" and "nanny." These antiquated terms have gone the way of the old stereotype of a goat eating a tin can. Yes, I know some of you are thinking Wow, this lady is picky! But as a goat breeder, I would rather not teach my grandchildren terms that are not accepted in the field. Second, I am uncomfortable with "V is For Vet - call the vet, I think something is wrong!" I do not want to give children the idea that kidding is cause for concern and veterinary intervention. So, okay, maybe most people wouldn't think twice about these things, but I won't be giving this book to my two year old granddaughter.

Animal lovers will get more from the book
I grew up raising animals and this book captures that life (though I raised rabbits, chickens, and dogs NOT goats ;-). Overall, I felt the words for each letter were well chosen and easy to understand by little ones. I also felt the images clearly depicted the text. The book focuses only on capital letters which is good for the very young like ages 1-3. I also like how the book displays Eastern European, maybe Russian, dress and lifestyle. It made me think the word "babushka" (Russian/Ukrainian grandmas) and of nesting dolls... In other words, the book feels like you are looking into the past (your grandma's time period) while the artist gives that time more color and brightness than it originally had... in the end its beautiful like a nesting doll. I don't think this book is for everyone (because people who are animal lovers will really get more from the book).

Patricia Polacco is always fun.
Bought this for my newborn grandson. He slept through it, but I loved it and I'm sure he will too.

Love, love
Love, love, love this book!!! All of Patricia Polacco's books are fantastic! We borrowed this book from the libray because my 3 year old wanted to learn her letters and this was recommended in our homeschool curriculum. She loved it so much we had it out for the full 6 weeks allowed and then had to return it. I bought it for her and she said through big bubbly squeals and lots of jumping up and down "this is just like the library book, but it's mine and we don't have to give it back!!!" She loves to read it and we read it *a lot*. She really has learned her letters and the sounds they make from this book. It's fun and unique, and not a bother to read over and over. What more could a mama ask for?!?! Highly recommended!

Great book!
This was a gift for my grandson. As a retired educator this author was always one of my favorite reads.

Great book
I have a toddler. I have goats. Now my toddler has a book with a picture of a goat on the front. Now I have a happy toddler. We have a lot of ABC books this one is much better than the rest! Beautiful book leads to independent story telling. Not the typical A.....picture of apple book. Daughter looks forward to reading this book. Reminds me of books I had when I was younger. Would make a great gift for a young child or for a baby shower to add to babys library.

If you like goats...this is a must have!!
I gave this away as a gift and just may have to buy a copy for myself. My favorite author: she did not disappoint with this one. I expected it to be great, and it was!
