What is the best blender for crushing ice?

There are some things you need to consider before being able to tell which blender would be the best one for you. I can tell you the best blender for smoothies is either a blendtec or a vitamix (prefer the blendtec) but that doesn't mean these two are the best blenders for you. Think about how much you are going to use the blender because those two blenders are in the $400-500 range. If you are only going to use the blender once a week or so then go with one that is cheaper but still good. It may not be the best blender but it is the best blender for your needs. Question 2

Can you chop nuts in this blender? It says you can do pesto in it, so wondered if the nuts (walnuts or pinenuts) have to be chopped before?

I have chopped pecans in it before but I was not able to get the nuts to a super fine consistency you would need for pesto. The nuts clumped towards the bottom and I was having to scoop them out to further chop. A real food processor, even a small, compact one works better for this purpose.

Is this the KSB560

The box is long gone, but the sticker on the bottom says KSB560PEO.  Mine is "pear" colored, don't know if that has something to do with the PE, but probably. I see a pink blender pictured with your question and a model number with a PK in it.  As for the O I am not sure.

Is the jar dishwasher safe?

I have placed mine in the dishwasher for over 5 years and it has never yellowed or clouded. If I recall correctly, the user manual says it can be put in the dishwasher.
