Reliable Sony!
This is just a perfect basic DVD player for someone on a budget! My family's old Sony finally needed to be replaced and, since it had been so reliable for years, I knew that I wanted to get another Sony. This one was in "Like New" condition and it's even better than that. I like that it's compact, sleek, smooth functioning and incredibly simple for even me, Grandma, to set up in no more than 5 minutes. The remote that comes with it works for the TV as well. I'm absolutely thrilled with it! I will say, however, that if you need RCA cords longer than 2' you should order those separately, as I did. Otherwise, this DVD player is ready to give you many great movie nights. Highly recommend!

Works great for my needs
I opted to get the used like new and it works perfectly. It actually did look brand new. I couldn't tell it had been used at all other the the box you could tell had been previously opened. This was a decent price and I'm glad I made the purchase. Hope it lasts a awhile. Will update my review if any issues should arise.

Sony - Quality Products that you can Count On
Sony has never let me down on any of the items I have purchased from them over the years. Regardless of what type of device it is, if it is a Sony then it usually performs perfectly, and with the setups getting easier and easier every year. I especially enjoy the photo slideshow that is built in, all I have to do is throw my photos (in several common and popular formats) onto either a CD or DVD (if I really want a ton of photos on a single disc) and burn it as a standard ROM type disc. Pop it in and hit play and the slideshow of your photos begins. Worked so well, I gave one to my Dad for Father's Day, and it's really cool that the new remote for the DVD controls his Sony TV as well, making it simple for Dad or Mom to use, and that is important, since they didn't grow up with any real electronics (aside from dry-cell battery powered, vacuum tube radios) and they really do try, but they just can't remember things like when they were younger, and they really don't get just how the computer even works. So I always try to keep it simple, but with good features on it as well that are easy to use. Displays gorgeous, rich, deep colors on my HD LCD or on Dad's Cathode Tube type Bravia from Sony TV. Great player, packed with features and at a great price, what more could one ask for in a DVD player.

Not HDMI but works great
Buttons on unit could be easier to push. Just know this isn't HDMI, just the red white and yellows. I kinda spaced on that but luckily my TV has those hookups. The picture isn't much worse than HDMI IMO. Compact and well made, I expect it to last like most Sonys do.

Great little machine for the price point.
I paid $35 for this DVD player back in June, 2012 which I thought was a pretty good deal. Now I see it is under $30 so my advice is to buy it while it is hot! My old Sony player was about ten years old and every other rental DVD I received skipped around so badly I couldn't enjoy a movie. As I wasn't sure if I wanted all the bells and whistles right now (Blu Ray or wireless to stream movies, etc) I went for cheap. So I was expecting a basic machine and that is what I got. So my five star rating is based on the price and that it plays DVDs, which is all I need. If you are looking for a player that walks the dogs and does the dishes, or to impress your techie friends, this item is not for you! My main complaint (at first) was there is no digital time display. I was used to seeing how far along the movie was by looking at the face of the player. But now I just press the "Display" button on the remote and it tells me how many minutes I am in to the DVD. This is important when I am playing my aerobics DVDs. So I am used to it. The nicest feature is that I can take a DVD out of the machine before it has ended, put in another DVD and play it, then when I want to finish watching the previous one it starts out at that same point. If you don't want it to do that all you have to do is go to the menu and start over again. Maybe all players do that now but my old one didn't. This unit is half the size of my previous one and space is always a consideration for me. So all in all I am very happy with the purchase.

Not overly impressed
While this unit largely functions fine, the are times when it just gets confused and doesn't like to play some dvd's. I have several box set of tv series that I watch while at my cabin where tv reception is sketchy at best. It will play along just fine for several discs then all of the sudden it decides it doesn't want to play one, or locks up while playing one. Never the same disc, just randomly happens. turn it off for a few minutes and it'll return to normal operation. I expected more from something with the Sony brand on it.

Using it as a CD player.
I was looking for a CD player to use with my amplifier, every CD player that I seen was quite a bit out of the range that I wanted to spend. I thought about using my PS4, but I come to find out that the PS4 can not play music Cd's. Then I just came across the idea of using a DVD player, come to find out that I'm not the only person that uses a DVD player that way, the DVD player has it's own AV audio output, I end up using the coaxial to connect to my amplifier, and voila I can listen to my CD's again! If you do not want to use an amplifier you can also connect it to your TV with HDMI and play the music that way, if you have a soundbar connected to your TV I think it would sound great as well. This also comes with a remote as well. I remember buying my first DVD player in 1998 and it was 10X more the price of this one, and at least 4 times bigger with just AV outputs.
