Mostly great workhorse Bible. Not too fancy. Recommended.
I am teaching myself Hebrew with this Bible and online resources and phone apps. I own a few premium Bibles and am used to really nice construction on Bibles, but this isn't exactly a premium Bible even though it is leather-bound with real leather. The low-ish price reflects this, so I'm not complaining about what I got, just letting you know what to expect. The pictures for this listing are terrible. You need actual product pictures, not just generic, misleading pictures of black rectangles with photoshopped fonts on them to make them look similar to the real product... There should be more in the listing about the construction of the Bible as well. I only knew what I was getting because I looked up reviews of this exact book on YouTube before buying.Firstly, the leather feels great. It's soft and feels either nice and thick or padded underneath or both. There is not much texturing on the cover and it has plenty of "grippy-ness" for holding in the hand. This kind of leather isn't my favorite nor my least favorite. It is high quality and should last a long time, but there is no perimeter stitching due to the liner. The lining is not amazing. This is the weak-point in the construction. It's a standard paste-down liner, not bad, but paste-down liners are weaker and not as nicely put-together as a properly sewn lining with edge-lined reinforcements, which make for much better longevity and natural cover flexibility. This one is more like the lining you will see in standard bonded leather or cardboard "leather-like" covers. The edges are not gilded. I was surprised there was no gilding on such a nicely bound Bible, but maybe it's just uncommon to gild a Hebrew bible? Not sure, but gilding would have been nice, though I don't mind it as-is. It's nice, but not super beautiful. It's more of a functional workhorse of a book, made for long-term handling and page-flipping, but not made to be the prettiest book on the shelf. There is NO BOX with this Bible. The pictures are misleading, showing something with perfectly square corners in one picture, which looks like a box, and then showing the book in another picture, with rounded corners in the right places. This Bible came shrink-wrapped with a simple, thin paper wrapped around the lower 1/4 of the book which served as a place for the advertising/features list, and which provided absolutely no protection for this really nice cover once the Bible is unwrapped.I generally try to keep my nicer Bibles in pristine condition. I don't cry when they get a scratch, but I'd rather not have the dog leave scars all over the nice leather covers when he decides to knock my entire table over and send my Bibles (all in their own boxes) flying. I'll have to find some way to protect this thing as well, which of course means more time and money to do what a $1 factory cardboard box could have done. This is a thick book. It is not a street-preaching Bible or a great hand-held reader. It's better on a desk, but not the worst thing to hold for short times. The paper is very thick for a Bible, not standard thin Bible paper. It is hefty and built to last in every way except the cover's liner. There is a bit of ghosting in the paper, but not much. Also, the paper is not perfectly white, but not a dull cream color, either, but a nice in-between. It also seems like good quality paper, but only time will tell.I think the binding is sewn. It appears sturdy and should hold up to a lot of semi-careful use. Also, the ribbons which come with this Bible are trash. They're not even ribbons. It's like they just glued some old shoestrings into the book. They're really thick, and right out of the "box" (read: shrink-wrap), the ribbons left semi-permanent or permanent indentions in the pages they had been placed near in the package. Not only this, they were annoying when you're used to working with satin ribbons. Negative 3 out of 10 for the ribbons. They not only suck, they caused damage to the book before it was ever bought. Just don't do this to good books, people. Single-faced satin ribbons are thin, beautiful and CHEAP. You can buy a mile of the stuff for a fairly low price, and the amount used per Bible is pretty low. For $5, I can put multiple ribbons in every Bible in my house, which is dozens. I don't see how this could possibly be a cost issue. Charge me an extra dollar and give me the extra $0.30 of materials and workmanship it takes to use real ribbons. Don't make me tear your brand new products apart just to make them decent. So the first thing I did to this one was to rip the original ribbons out and replace them with 3 nice, blue single-faced satin ribbons which are thin and won't mess up the pages if I leave them in the same place too long. I had to separate the binding a bit to get the ribbons out, but once I did, I just glued in the new ones using some book-binding glue and then added more glue and stuck everything back together like new. I now have a really nice sub-$1 set of permanent satin ribbons. This Bible came in the form of a "scratch-and-dent" version, though it wasn't listed that way. There is a pretty obvious scuff with some permanent damage on the "front" part, the part which has the English text. This damage was under the plastic wrapping and the thin, delicate plastic wrapping had exactly no damage in that area or any other area, therefore this damage had to have occurred at the factory. And then on the inside of the "back" cover where the Bible's text starts, someone closed the book with a scrap bit of metal or something inside, causing a hole in the liner, the thick cardstock page, and a couple pages beyond that, plus indentations which can be felt over 20 pages in, plus a bump which appears through the leather on the outside of the book due to the way the paper was torn/crumpled in that tiny space. This is clearly not shipping damage. This is factory damage. The Bible was shipped in a box with other items and shrink-wrapped, and this damage is INSIDE of the Bible, yet whatever foreign object was closed between the cover and book block which caused the damage had been removed before it was wrapped in plastic for shipping/storage.This damage doesn't hurt the readability of the book, but is annoying, especially with books over $50.Now, to the contents:I love Hebrew, though I'm just getting serious about it. My vocabulary is limited and I'm still learning the grammar, but I'm confident with the first chapter of Bereshit now and am enjoying learning. The font is nice. The letters and niqqud (or however you transliterate it?) are really easy to read and differentiate. I'm still getting used to the masoretic helps, but they're also easy to distinguish and work with. The system of vocabulary helps is complex but very useful, and no more complex than it needs to be. I have a feeling I'm going to enjoy spending a lot of time in this Bible. I get TONS of use out of the glossary and on-page glosses. Without them, I would need tons more outside resources to be reading at my level. It may not be perfection or a premium Bible, but it is very nice and should last for a long while through my Hebrew learning adventures. I'll probably tear this one up in a few years while flipping all over the place exploring and learning the language, but I'll buy another when that happens. If I weren't reading it every day, it would probably last several decades on a shelf.I say overall it's a great way to go for people learning Hebrew. Go with the hardback version if you want to carry it around in a backpack, otherwise plan to have a nice box/cover made for this one.

Good, but have some QC issue
My bible arrive today and i’m very happy about it. However there is some issue:1. I got mine with a small tear on the liner. Upsetting, yes, but I don’t bother to return it. Just want to let you know to be aware of QC issues with this bible.2. The ribbons are thick. It will leave marks on your bible like a small hole. I just cut the ribbons right away and use bookmark instead. You can see my photos for reference.

Beautifully made edition
Just a beautifully made edition. It love to hold it in my hands because the leather is fine and soft and somehow attached to the backing with a sort of cushioning or something. I have an Artscroll Tanakh, the Stone Edition, too, but in my opinion this BHS Reader's Edition is simply more nicely made. With the Artscroll edition you get an English translation on the left and Hebrew on the right, but I got this because it lacks any English translation bit contains footnotes in English concerning certain words. There is also a Hebrew amd Aramaic glossary in English in the back, though, plus a lot of grammatical information, with various roots and nouns, verbs and irregular forms. If your goal is to actually practice what you are learning in Hebrew grammar, without the aid of full translation, then this is the Tanakh you want. I have Brown-Driver-Briggs Lexicon and various grammars so this is perfect for reading, albeit slowly since I'm a noob. But definitely worth the money, I am very please

Top Notch Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia
An awesome rendition of the Holy Bible (OT) in Hebrew. It has flowing grammatical apparatus under the main text that is obviously designed for students of Biblical Hebrew. I have several Hebrew Bibles but this one is an absolutely A+ tool. Also, those passages originally written in Aramaic, are word for word listed and explained in the same apparatus. At the end of the book are 67 pages of all paradigms, including Hebrew and Aramaic glossaries. The whole book has 1765 pages.I cannot imagine there is anything better out there as far as Biblia Hebraica Stuttgartensia goes.Top notch!Thank you to the authors!

Wonderful book, but quirky grammatical references
This is a beautiful and wonderfully practical book as described by others. Breathtakingly fast delivery! Only wierdness is the idiosyncratic grammatical reference system it employs. Perhaps it is keyed to Vance's introductory grammar. Always one more thing to learn.

Highly recommended for students of the Hebrew language!
This has to be one of the best BHS volumes I own. Although it lacks the textual apparatus, this minor setback is mitigated by the fact that it has a page-by-page lexicon. (It is, after all, a Reader's Edition.) It's primarily designed for students of the Hebrew language or perhaps Pastors that may want to prepare a sermon from the Old Testament. Additionally, the typeface is large which makes this book a bit more bulky but it's worth it because the print quality is clear which makes this edition extremely easy to read. i.e. One is not having to second guess the vowel markings while reading passages aloud.

Very nice edition.
This is a very nice edition with excellent binding. My original BHS is literally falling apart at the seams from substandard binding, and the print was always a bit too small. This edition has a supple but sturdy binding that looks like it will last forever. The book stays open without cracking the spine, and the typeface is clear and large enough to read comfortably, even with aging eyes. I am very satisfied with this purchase.

Beautiful and useful edition.
For quite a few years now, my Bible has been A Reader's Hebrew and Greek Bible , mainly because it has the convenience of having the Old and New Testaments in a single 'Readers' volume. However that edition does have some annoyances that have never left me: The 'graying-out' of all Proper Names in the Hebrew text; surely the worst and least legible Greek font of any NT; and the fact that the running vocabs for both OT & NT are crammed into a single indigestible block at the bottom of each page. For that reason, while this is still the Bible I take on Holiday or to Church, for my own comfortable reading I've been using (for the NT) UBS Greek New Testament: Reader's Edition with Textual Notes (Black) (Esv Bibles) , which did a superb job of correcting the faults of the Zondervan edition. Now, to my GREAT delight, I've discovered this - which does an equally great job of fixing the annoyances of the Zondervan Hebrew text and glosses. Instead of a single clump of glosses, the vocab at the bottom of each page iis clearly arranged for each verse, and easily located at a glance. It's a very large, substantial book. The soft leather cover is smooth and beautiful to the touch. The pages are thick enough to eliminate seeing the ghost image of the other side. Not cheap, but with some books, 'You only need one, so buy the best you can afford'. In this case, you WON'T regret it.Very highly recommended. It now has a permanent place on my study desk, alongside the Readers' UBS NT. It is practical and it works
The conjugation key code is genius. It is bible, lexicon, glossary and grammar, all as one resource. It is easy to use and enables a flow of narration and transliteration at speed and efficiently, although there are some excellent grammars and Readers out there. If you are serious about reading and transliterating Biblical Hebrew whilst developing an understanding of the nuance of grammar, this book is an absolute Must Buy. It will save you hundreds of hours of labour.

Great quality in production and reading aids
This reader's bible is great; the quality is better than Zondervan's and the notes are accurate and helpful. However, the parsing system is idiosyncratic, so this may prove troublesome to the student just beginning to read Hebrew.

Excelente compra
