Dictionary of the Holy Quran, Arabic - English Paperback – March 15, 2010

This book is very thorough. I use it in my studies and it has become a invaluable resource. Once you get the layout of the book you will rely on it to find words, the root of words, the usages of words, etc. Excellent !

Very excellent book, but sections on Akwaab, meaning Thanksgiving of American Constitutional Ships in Libya based to help Maghrib were not included. I hope and pray The Vatican will sponsor book writings on Akwaab, Thanksgiving, and document important Punic Cartesian Cartographic Latin. Often Italians and Tunisians at former Carthage were discoursed to the Roman Cages which contained dangerous solutions of Injustice. The Stadiums in my assessment never could support such injustice acts including Animal Exposure Barbarity 'Justice', thus Christianity and Islam are perfectly poised to utilize Abrahamic Principle to never Reciprocate

Book for the Layman: For the student and layman, whose mother tongue is not Arabic, the "Dictionary of the Holy Qur'an" (Arabic-English) by `Abdul Mannan `Omar is without doubt an intimate and indispensable companion book to the study of the Qur'anic Text. This dictionary is especially geared to the novice, student, and layman, and even to serious scholars studying classical Arabic.Debt of gratitude: Without hesitation or reservation, i have to state that we are deeply indebted to the venerable Mannan family, who have published and facilitated publication of several scholarly works on Islam. I pay special tribute to the author of this dictionary for his dedication to Arabic scholarship by virtue of this book, which accents the beauty and magnificence of the Arabic Qur'an.Best Single Volume: This book is the best single volume dictionary available on Qur'anic Arabic outside of the respected and popular E.W. Lane's "Arabic-English Lexicon," which comprises several volumes. Another book, different but to a extent complementary, is Hanna E. Kassis "A Concordance of the Qur'an." The latter of course, is an English-based volume, requiring no knowledge of Arabic, but it does provides arabic roots for all English-based words, traced to various Qur'anic translations. The prime difference between Mannan's dictionary and Kassis' concordance is that the former requires elementary knowledge of the Arabic aphabet, while the latter does not! Both are equally accessible to the layman.Ease of Use: Mannan's dictionary follows the same method of use as any standard English dictionary. It is arranged in Arabic alphabetic order, following the sequence of fathah, kasrah, and dammah, in Index 1 (282 pages).Authoritativeness: finally, this dictionary permits the student/researcher to access the "classical" root meanings of all Arabic words used in the Qur'anic Text due to the fact that its very contents come from the best extant classical Arabic works, including Al-Mufridat, Lisan al-`Arab, and Taj al-`Arus.Without hesitation, I strongly recommend Mannan's dictionary for anyone interested in a casual or serious study of the Islam's sacred text.sincerely,Mohamad K. The book itself is nice, with silver lined pages and a ribbon bookmark. The size of the book is small enough (about the same as a small standard Bible) to have alongside Notes, and the noble Quran. The organization of words follows the Arabic alphabet, and it is fully described and outlined by the forward at the beginning of the book. The definitions are from a Quranic origin, with references to tafseer (official interpretation) and hadith (Sayings and teachings of the Prophet PBUH). This reference book is great for anyone who would like to learn the language of the Quran.

Clear definitions! Exactly what is needed to better understand the Arabic of the Quran.

Don’t waste your money.You’re better off using a free online tool.Most of this dictionary is missing the most important reason why anyone would buy it:An actual list of verses where each word or variation of a word is used at the end of the definitions.Instead, it uses phrases like “the root with its above forms has been used in the Holy Quran about ## times,” withOUT any reference to the actual verses.Very upset that I missed the return window before realizing this purchase was a total waste of money.

This is great. All the roots in a layout that makes it easy to find them. You don’t have to know the Arabic letters for the book though I do think you have to if you are serious with learning the language. For those that left a review implying you can not use the book without knowledge of the Arabic letters: read the instructions more carefully ;)

It contains a word index for fast look up of a word and its root. The actual entry for each root contains meanings taken from several Classical Arabic lexicons, grammar information and how many times that root occurs. The only weaknesses are there is no concordance (i.e. a list of verses where that word occurs) and the Classical Arabic meanings listed are not exhaustive enough for some entries.Project Root List is similar in content to this book. If you need an Arabic-English lexicon, Lane's Lexicon is superb and its available online now.

It helped me a lot with reference to the terms in the Quran. It was confusing to look for the words in the beginning because you have to know the root word in Arabic. So all in all, its great but with the exception that it will not be that easy to use for those who do not know any arabic.

have never seen the likes of it.not only does it give the word you are looking for, but also give the root of the word, where it came from. and also other related words. The arabic language is articulated in such a way, e.g. Haqiqa (reality) is taken from Haq(real) also a name of Allah. Al Haq.in comparison to the english word real, which is derived from the latin word realis meaning "things" or property.there is a clear differentiation, and anyone who wants to know the relationship in words should buy this.chambers book of etymology is also a good book for english that is.

Von allen anderen Wörterbüchern zum Arabischen unterscheidet sich das Buch durch seinen durchdachten und konsequent durchgehaltenen Aufbau, der nicht lediglich Grundformen nennt und übersetzt, sondern eine Suche nach der im Koran vorgefundenen grammatischen Form oder stammesmäßigen Ableitung erlaubt und auf die Grundform zuführt. Die Systematik ist einzigartig. Ohne das Buch wäre ich an vielen offenen Fragen gescheitert. Nicht hoch genug einzuschätzen!
