Undecided. (now decided)
I still haven't figured out if I like this or not. I don't hate it, which is pretty typical for me for most perfumes, I either hate it instantly or it gives me a headache (Chanel/Dior those have some sort of note that just kills my head). One of the base notes in something else I like is Vetiver, and I heard people describe this as fresh and soapy , I also saw the citrus notes so I figured it would be a good idea to try. Also everyone seems to say this is the ultimate Vetiver scent. I think the pepper and the tobacco might be a bit much for me, it comes off at first kind of grassy, I can't really smell the citrus, and then you definitely get hit with this spicy/peppery sort of kick. It isn't too manly (i find a lot of men's fragrance smell way too strong and like a middle school locker room) so that's good if you are female like me and want something different. It definitely is unique, I just am not sure if the smell that hangs around is really to my taste. Definitely won't blind buy a fragrance again, it was just such a good deal and something I wanted to try that I figured I"d go for it.~editI don't think I like this at all now that I've had more time to process this. I still think it isn't bad at first spray but after it dries down it has a sort of Catholic Funeral Mass smell to it. It smells like incense and makes me think of a slightly musty older church. I don't' think the mustiness is actually in the fragrance but it makes me think of that it evokes a similar feeling I get when I smell floral arrangements that are very lily heavy. Sadness and incense. I think some of the other Guerlain fragrances might be better suited to me than this one.

Timeless
Great value. Been using this product for as long as I remember as did my father and probably his father as well. It just smells clean

A very old vintage connotation -- a fine old vintage.
An old school smell and pure Guerlain as only Guerlain can.Nothing like it, not sharp like Creed, not Tom Ford. This is expansive and so complex, as stated, it's "Guerlain "."Pleasantly fresh and outdoorsy, this scent has an enticing mixture of wood, vetiver, tobacco, and spice. It is masculine without being overwhelming and applies easily as a final touch while you're dressing for evening engagements such as a night at the theatre or a dinner party."It is more in the formal category as it is so unique and not something for everyday -- for myself. It does have that spoil yourself scent, but you will want to sample this at a counter like at Saks or such to ensure that it is right for you before adding to your scent menagerie. A very old vintage connotation if you are over 50, a fine old vintage.

THE REAL THING.
My dad has been using this my whole life (44 years) and he asked me if I could buy him some because he hasn't been able to get it at the store because of the pandemic. He says its the real thing. Very happy. Confirmation from a life-long user, doesn't get better than that.

Love scent, fades quickly
Adore this scent but itβs not long lasting, even for eau de toilette. Wish they offered the lotion.

Classic, but dated
Since it's a scent that was formulated in 1961, it's not a surprise that this smells dated. I imagine this is what one of the Gibb brothers would smell like. It's far from an unpleasant smell, to my nose. The opening is a bit too strong, but the middle is lots of cedar and dry grass.Few men can wear this these days, though. Sure, it's a classic smell, in that it's a example of the style of the 60's. Wearing this out today is just as bad as wearing vintage 60's clothing, and you will get just as many odd glances.

Not to my taste.
I usually love fragrances with vetiver included, but this was not how I had hoped it would be. This is totally my fault, Guerlain are a highly respected perfumery and I am sure there is nothing wrong with my purchase. I really like the strange grassy woody scent of vetiver, I now realise I prefer something peppery or oriental included. It is just not to my taste and this just highlights my ignorance. Item arrived extremely well packaged and very quickly, cannot fault the transaction. Just a silly expensive mistake of my own doing. People rave about this scent, it has a loyal and growing following, so please don't let me put you off. However I would rather be up front and admit my mistake.

Appears to be genuine
This appears to be genuine and fairly fresh stock. I have been unfortunate in the past to buy stuff that was either downright fake, and/or had sat in a sunny window for the past 10 years, and lost all semblance of it's original fragrance.Still not 100% confident of buying fragrance online, but this price is around 50% of High Street retail price. You pays your money and you takes your chance ...

Pure aromatherapy!
I have previously bought this for my Significant Other from the airport shop when it was on offer and he was testing a few scents and we both loved its citrusy, herbal, aromatherapeutic, fresh, zesty smell. It's fresh but not in a boring disinfectant-like way, it has an exquisite sharp sweetness about it mixed in with cedar-like notes which really perk you up and make you feel good. I end up sniffing his neck just for the aromatherapeutic effects! He used that up and I didn't notice it in any shop for ages and I couldn't remember the name of the make though I remembered the name of the product so I did a search and found it was by Guerlain so I bought it for him again from Amazon this time and he was very pleased.

Disappointing
For what you get, this item is quite pricey. Any perfume is a personal taste and I don't rate this one that high. The smell to me is very sharp and by no means subtle. Its longevity is poor. I can apply it say at six pm, go out and by the time I get back home at 10pm, there is virtually nothing left to smell. The aroma has also changed, but I would put that down to my own body chemistry

The modern version.
I don't think this as powerful a smell as it used to be. Won't kill a skunk at ten paces. But it is the same smell. They say "curiosity killed the cat", and I wanted to know what raw vetiver smells like, and bought some. Consequently, this scent smells like rotting grass roots to me. Hasn't stopped me using it, it's a bit unique (I'm not familiar with any other vetiver scent products). I've tried it twice in my life, but planning to move to something else next.
