CRYSTAR - PlayStation 4

After being sent to purgatory with her younger sister Mirai, Rei gains the powers to fight the demons of that realm. She finds her sister and while attempting to escape is attacked by an evil being. Rei defeats the demon, and then accidentally stabs her sister, killing her. If you die in purgatory you disappear from the real world. Now Rei has to make a deal with the two demons who rule over purgatory to take over their post if they revive Mirai. Rei then goes on a journey to collect soul crystals to revive her sister; knowing the end result is herself being trapped in purgatory for all eternity. What ensues is a fun, well stylized, and beautifully animated story; played out in an Action RPG fashion. You will meet more lost souls in purgatory, and hopefully amass enough soul crystals to save your sister before she reaches "the machine at the end of time and space"; which will cause her to permanently cease existing with no chance to revive her.Buckle up, this is going to be a wild ride. I highly recommend this title. It manages to deal with a multitude of highly emotional topics, including depression, bullying, death, and suicide. It does a good job of relaying the emotional and spiritual impacts those topics have not only on the person directly affected, but their friends and family as well. This is a title that is going to be extremely rare.

Crystar is a very good game but I have to give this English release a 1 star due to the censored intro, you can thank Sony and spineless Spike Chunsoft for that. I rate the overall game 4 stars for it’s interesting story, great characters and very nice visuals.The gameplay is somewhat clunky and is very repetitive so it can get boring at times, the story and music saves this game.Excluding some bosses there are only about seven enemy variants from beginning to end, they are the same enemies just re-skinned with the exact same attacks, the levels and textures are also heavily recycled and most levels are exactly the same, the maps are just reversed.I also want to mention that the 20 page mini art book Spike released for the English release is an insult compared to the 160 page Japanese art book, a ton of artwork was left out and I noticed that some art was cut from some pages in the western release where in the Japanese book it shows the same artwork taken from the same page in full.It also appears that they censored the mini art book since they didn’t include Rei’s full transformation like they did in the Japanese art book (example in my image) we’ll never know since Spike likes to stay silent about these things, they want us to pay full price for a censored product and all store listings don't state that this game has any kind of censorship. I don’t recommend buying any game releases if Spike Chunsoft is involved.

I waited some months until I could get this one with a great discount and Black Friday had the perfect price tag for this one.If you haven't watched any gameplays videos of Crystar, this game is an A-RPG with an interesting story and good character designs. The Day-One Edition also includes a mini-artbook that looks more like an instruction booklet to me, but I appreciate they still include that kind of stuff inside the games.

As someone who has played the Zero Escape series and the Danganronpa series and enjoyed both series for their story and unique gameplay. The story is mysterious and interesting it's a simplified stripped down Persona clone but I think this game is worth a look.

The game is fine, a bit awkward to control and kinda boring gameplay wise; however, the story is interesting enough , if not slow at times. Regardless of all this it's worth the buy if on sale.

Pretty much a stylized action rpg with jank combat but a good story. It’s like .hack meets Devil May Cry. The only issue I have is this chick’s Doge. Why the hell is it all puffy and derpy looking?

This game is pretty fun, the characters are likable and the story is interesting. I am not yet finished with it, but I have played 25 hours so far.I recommend this game.

great storyline, great characters! the gameplay is a bit lacking and easy to get used to, but the storyline is a bit dark and more and more evolving the farther you get in.

The type of atmosphere and approach that this game decides to go in is very interesting. I would say it feels something like a Kingdom Hearts mobile type of game but much more sullen in atmosphere. The stories are quite interesting as well which made me want to know more about the story.But the game play is super repetitive maps and combat wise. I also wasn't a huge fan of the artistic direction for the characters... but that's just personal preference.Storyline wise, it's surprisingly intriguing. Game play wise, it feels like an obsolete game design from a decade ago.Neat game worth playing, but not at full price.

So far I'm having a lot of fun with this game! Im currently playing on the hardest difficultly and enjoying it a lot. The only thing is that the game is a bit easy. Im not sure if its cause i make sure to clear out the whole floor before moving on to the next one or w.e but I have yet to die and im about half way through the game. That being said im still having a lot of fun and would 100% play again and recommend it

Buen juego, entretenido, un JRPG más del catálogo de PS4. Algo caro, pero entretenido y definitivamente vale la pena por el libro de arte, ya que el arte de este juego es genial. Lo malo en mi caso es que la caja llegó con una de las pestañas que detienen el libro rota. No sé si sólo yo tengo tan mala suerte cuando pido cosas de Amazon Estados Unidos, pero ya son varias como para pensar lo contrario, y eso que ahora no venía en sobre como suelen enviar las cosas. Buen producto, veré si reclamo la caja rota porque hay veces que cansa estar con lo mismo.
