FABULOUS! You will not be disappointed by this book!
Met Dr. Connett at a zero waste meeting in Hawai'i several years ago and was inspired at that time by his story ... year later and I finally picked up this book from our local library and was equally impressed by his writing. Decided to share it with a friend on Maui for a Christmas present. Living on an island (and on this one EARTH!) this book is especially important and carries an essential message for all of humanity. HIGHLY recommended!

Entertaining arm-waving
Reducing waste and diverting residuals to recycling, composting, etc. is a often-overlooked corner of the sustainability movement, despite the dramatic GHG emission reductions it can yield. Good book to build your enthusiasm for zero waste. As a professional in the waste diversion field, I note this book lacks detailed information on how community planners and waste businesses actually do the analysis to get to zero waste. But he gets high marks for enthusiasm, and for compiling many interesting anecdotes. If you get a chance to hear Paul speak, do so - he's engaging and actually does wave his arms he gets so excited about this topic.

Solutions for a Zero Waste world
The book gives details on history of zero waste movement worldwide. It gives helpful tips and some practical steps for people to follow like the four R’s: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Redesign, which many of us try to follow in our daily life. The book is sprinkled with good examples. It is interesting to know how local farmers in San Francisco use compost to produce fruit, vegetable and wine and the fact that in Italy primary school students use glass and steel utensils instead of disposable plastic items. The book is very insightful and gives us a lot of good details about managing waste. The aim is to make readers enlightened on contributing to a clean and safe environment.

A very informative and inspiring book that is easy to read and follow.
This book is for those who hate seeing garbage everywhere, like in ditches, on peoples' lawns, along the highway, etc. This book shows you how to throw away less manufacturing packaging, how to shop for packaging-free products, how to save money by composting, recycling, reusing and reducing without feeling like a pauper. In fact, it gives you a boost when saving money, time and the planet. If they could, animals would thank you, too.

Thought provoking and worthy read.
I came to this book after watching the thought provoking Jeremy Irons film "Trashed." which features Prof Paul Connett and fellow chemist Prof Vyvyan Howard. I was brought to this subject in the face of the threat to build an Incinerator in our locality and as a graduate chemist I found both Trashed and Paul's Zero Waste book most useful in helping to widen my own suspicions about the whole waste management dillemma. An excellent read which brings to light both the historical issues, the contemporary debate which is raging following Europe's recent changes in landfill policy, and sets a context as to how and why society could be doing so much better. Waste is such a dirty secret and in my view bringing the whole debate out into the public eye is an excellent first step towards demanding more intelligent policy as each community and country move forward.

The answer to Trash.
Dr Paul Connett has opened my eyes to the way forward for dealing with waste of all types and he explains "energy from waste"(Incineration) isa bad idea that is inefficient and releases toxic nanoparticles into the atmosphere to the detriment of all.He also explains that if a waste product cannot be recycled, repaired, reused or composted then we should not be making that product out of that material. We have to stop polluting the planet as the planet is indifferent to our pollution; so we are in charge; the planet will not save us. However by reading this book the ZERO WASTE solution will be seen as the sense-checked way forward. If you are in any doubt about buying this book check out some of the videos made by others of Dr.Paul Connett`s lectures to interested groups.

Excellent book for anyone interested in knowing about the situation of waste in the world and what to do about it - that is, mainly reducing it.
