This fits perfectly at the end of counter. Orientation works great for the kitchen and cabinets. Love the slim design but does seem to have a slightly smaller opening area. Works great so far.

This is my second one. The first one lasted a long time.I am now buying this trash can for the third time. The first one worked well and lasted a long time. I recently bought a second one and had it fir one week when my wife dropped and broke the top. Now the top will not open and close with the sensor. I now have an order in for a third one, and I will not let her touch the next one. She said great, will not help me with the trash anymore.(Laugh out loud)

This garbage can is a great product. Its really big, fits white garbage bags nicely. It runs quietly and so far is has not malfunctioned or done anything odd as some of the previous reviews have stated. Its quite sensitive so the lid opens easily but you may have a game of "beat the clock" if you are throwing out a lot of stuff because the lid does close quickly. It also really traps odors in, so overall I am happy with this can.My only issue which is really an non-issue for us because it actually works in our favor (we live in a typical NYC apartment, space is a hot commodity) that the can as pictured looks like the lid opens on the longer wider side of the canister. The can we received actually opens on the narrower side. So in essence it is nice for us because we get the benefits of a larger trash bin but it doesn't take up our entire kitchen. Now, if you want a wider opening, then I would contact the seller first because the picture I see is not what received. Overall: It holds garbage, it was cheap, and its fun. Can't complain. :)

I have two of these and both have been working solidly actually a little too good at time but that would be my fault for being so close to the sensor while in the kitchen. I love everything about it.Pros1. opens on command2. holds lots of trash3. its light weight4. looks good5. Battery life it great.6. Very easy to cleanI read other reviews and problems others have had with it. I guess I am lucky because I have two, one in the bedroom and one in the kitchen, the products are working fine. I also bought one for my fiance who I suggested to her to retire her simply human stainless steel trash can that hardly holds much trash in my opinion. It also is a pain to clean. The first time I cleaned it I almost threw the thing out. Not sure why people like those simply human trash cans especially the one she had it sucked.This product holds twice as much as her simply human and much easier to clean and use. They also had a problem with this product because the can will close before they empty their items. Well I informed her that that if you move to far from the sensor it will close within 3-4 seconds. That is exactly what they were doing. They would move more than 6 inches away and the lid will close on them LOL. They know how to work it now and they also have the option to press the open button.

So far, it has been a great purchase. We bought the trash can in mid November 2013 and I just replaced the 4 D batteries at the beginning of August 2014. I've been at home with my daughter since purchasing it, so I know it's been getting a lot of use. Yes, the lid feels a little flimsy, but it probably can't be too heavy duty, or it would work harder on the motor. That being said, I've bumped the lid numerous times (it sometimes catches me if I'm taking too long to put something in). Yet, it hasn't broken off, as I have read in another review. But, I'm a woman and I try my best to be somewhat gentle. My only complaint is that, sometimes, even if you press the button to open the lid (which is supposed to keep it open until you press the button to close) if you bump the trash can too hard, for instance if emptying a dust pan, the lid may come down when it's not supposed to. Tip: if it won't open, hit the close button to reset it.Update: 2018 - This is a nice trash can, but the original lid stopped working. The metal hinge started to rust and a piece of plastic eventually broke. Maybe wiping the metal hinge at least weekly will keep it from rusting. My young daughter also used to touch it to make it close, so I’m sure that eventually caused additional damage. We bought a replacement lid from the company last fall for $45 plus $15 S&H. We’ll see how long this one lasts.

Look, I really wanted to like this trash can. It has everything you could want in a trash can. It is great in size, an open sensor, a close\open button, and even keeps the odor inside very well. But unfortunately, I guarantee you, you will have a sensor issue with one of these eventually.My FIRST Ninestar trashcan was plagued with the sensor problem from the start. The lid would not stay open regardless of the presence of my hand. Also, the open button worked, but it didn't work to hold the lid up permanently as described in the manual. So I sent the first trash can back(thank you amazon for being so easy to use).My SECOND trashcan from Ninestars was amazing. For three days, the sensor worked and performed as described. On the fourth day, the sensor began to act up like the first trashcan. It is currently still acting up and according to Customer Service, there's nothing to do except take out the batteries, make sure the off switch is set to off, and wait 24 hours for the device to fully factory reset. This makes absolutely no sense to me. Factory reset a garbage can that can't be programmed otherwise? Huh?Anyway, I'm giving the factory reset a chance before getting to PO'ed and send this one back as well. But can you imagine if it did work and this is something the garbage can needs done every 4-5 days?? Unbelievable if that is the case...The garbage can works great when it works, but there is definitely a design flaw with the sensor. I've given the company a second chance to redeem themselves, but two lemons\duds? I don't think so.

Simple sensor trash can, for less than hundred SGD, this is good enough. There are quite a few cons though. There are 3 protective paper trays--one each for top and bootm + one for the top cover, should be well protected but there's a dent on the front corner right out of the box!1)External card box was free of dent, this must be from the factory when it was pack in, shows the QC level of NINESTAR, NOT GOOD.2)The on/off swtch is at the rear of topp cover, pushing the can against the wall will cause the switch to the middle postition--OFF the sensor, what were the designing team thinking?3)Opening take nearly a second, auto closing after 3~4 seconds--even if your hand remains there. 2 button at the front panel: pressing the "open" button will open it and remain open until the "close" button is press. They work, although I wish the buttons are bigger,4)steel is thin, easily dented, as proven, The base is almost non-existen, I wish the rubber/plastic would be taller, I could imagine rust from water/other liquid from interior/exterior or harder, heavier waste dropping would make some damage quite soon.Well, everything is judge to it price. 1)I chose to ignore the dent and not make a complain to Amazon; 2)I pasted some foam to cushion the switch from the hard wall; 3)The light plastic cover doesn't cause any problem even if it decide to close when my hand was there; 4)At this price, I'd be happy if it works for 2/3 years.Don't expect Simplehuman quality, you'll be happy with the purchase. BTW, I use "Hefty Ultra Strong Tall Kitchen Trash Bags", doesn't reach the bottom despite the advertised "tall" wording, But don't think I would fill the bag to the top, probably half of it so not much issue. Will try with "Glad ForceFlex Protection Series Tall Kitchen Drawstring Trash Bags", see how it goes.

Absolutely love this garbage can. It is super narrow which was important to me. It had ro fit into a small space but at the same time be large enough for a family of 5s trash. It seems to be doing great, although it's only day 1. Super convenient automatic lid opening and closing. I will update if things change.

I bought 2 of these larger cans and one small one. I use the large blue bags in the can I have designated for recycling and the large black garbage bags in the one for garbage. I love the motion sensor and I am more motivated to compost since the lid opens automatically and I can dump the food scraps in without having to set something down to open the lid. One can came with a defective lid but the service at Nine Star has been excellent so far. Prompt phone and email response and they are sending me a new lid. I don't have it yet. Very happy overall!
