The Only Accurate Scholarly Edition of Chopin's B-flat Minor Sonata
All the Ekier editions are great, but this volume of the two mature sonatas may be the greatest advance over earlier editions. For example, both the so-called Paderewski edition and the Henle edition misplace the first movement's repeat sign, and make poor editorial choices in other spots. Ekier puts things in order, and when Chopin himself made it impossible to put things quite in order - as in the finale of Op. 35 - it is forthright about the ambiguity. This edition is also commendably easy to read, and sturdily put together. Highly recommended.(P.S. The editorial quality of Op. 58 is probably just as high, but I don't know the piece well enough to comment.)
