The Book of the SubGenius : The Sacred Teachings of J.R. 'Bob' Dobbs

Warning do not buy the kindle version. It's bitmapped and atrocious. You cannot read any of the small illustrations, which is 90% of the book.

This is, of course, a parody of religion. But what a parody! It's hard to believe this was whipped up by a couple of guys as a JOKE. There is actually a lot of swipe-able content here, if you just change a few words. When I read it in this light, the Smoking Head of Bob appeared to me and said, "Now THAT'S what I'm talking about!". See, Bob is a SALESMAN, and understands that the road to true Slack starts with our desire to steal his words and ideas, to make them our own, and to continue down the path of effortless enlightenment and sales. Long live Bob!

Bought this to replace my old Excremeditation Chamber's copy.It's right next to my copy of _Principia Discordia_ and _The Gospel Of The Flying Spaghetti Monster_Looks like an easy perusal, but it took me a Month to read it cover to coverA friend once commented on this book: "It hurts to read"

I teach Comparative Religion at the college level, and we spend one class considering so-called parody religions. I bought the book so students could see it. It was a major disappointment! It was jumbled, poorly organized, and virtually incoherent. By comparison, Bobby Henderson's Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is brilliant farce.

This actual Church is hlariously funny and subversive enough that it's the only church the US Government has specifically ordained to be NOT recognized as such. Historically weird, telling and very prophetic of times that came. It's a series of oddball essays by the Brilliant Ivan Stang with plenty of weird little illustrations reminiscent of very early punk rock style posters and late '70s hippie irony comics. Fascinating, fun and the PERFECT bathroom companion!

Zanier than Monty Python’s Flying Circus, and humorously more conspiratorial than QAnon. Their take on conspiracy theories are absolutely delightful, as picture above shows.Everyone need “Slack”. Everyone needs to “kill time”. These are the basis of this “religion” and “philosophy”.

This book has changed my life; the Pipe that came with it looks super cool when I take it to clubs, parties, even work! The smoke it emits is foul, yet everyone seems entranced by it - or maybe it's just the way it NEVER STOPS FUMING? Anyways, I recommend ordering the Deluxe edition, as it comes with a cool "BOB" figurine set - you get Cowboy "BOB", Forest Ranger "BOB", and even a Holy Spoutin' Janor Decoder Ring. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

A 1980s book collecting the Silly-Putty theology of the Church of the SubGenius, that group of wags satirizing now religion, now American society. Guaranteed to confuse! Not in any useful or sensible order for the believer, but digging into the pages, you will clue in and get Slack. Savage, joyful, monstrous.

Reality! What reality!!!! Anyone who has not read this book should -- great for putting everything into perspective -- and the pictures throughout are awesome.
