Kudos to Tim Ernst- Essential resource
Great book. Kudos and many thanks to Tim Ernst for his efforts to establish and maintain the beautiful OHT. I love the format of the book, with each trail section having a mileage chart and elevation chart. The only problem I had was that when we hiked the trail, we went east-to-west, so we were essentially reading the book backwards. The mileage chart makes accommodations for this, but not the narrative. It was sometimes hard to pinpoint where we were at times. But I understand that having an E/W narrative would be like writing an entirely new book.Final note regarding the trail. I was constantly impressed with how well-maintained it was (as of January 2017) and how frequently they had trail markers. We probably only saw two pieces of garbage over 55 miles, and we packed those out.Only change I'd make to the book would be to improve the description of Cedar Creek. When we dropped into the hollow, it was as if a Bob Ross painting and a J.R.R. Tolkien story had a baby, and that baby was Cedar Creek. Absolutely magical, complete with a fire ring right next to the river and those awesome stone recliner chairs. High point of our trek.

Big help!
We took this with us to the Ozarks this weekend and hiked one of the loops. This book was great at telling us where to go and what was coming. It's literally turn-by-turn. My only complaint is some of the SSS's needed a little more detail. Some were very vague and we couldn't find them. It could be that the waterfalls were dry though. If we had gone during the wet season it probably would have been different. But I wouldn't hike the OHT without this book.

Great guide to a horrible trail
It's a shame that the time, effort, and talent that went into writing this guide--which I do not hesitate in calling the finest trail guide I've ever read--is wasted because of the state of Arkansas's incredible negligence in upkeeping the trail. I tried to hike the eastern-most part (40 miles +) of the trail in May 2012 and it was impossible. You'll find yourself wading through shoulder-high blackberry thorns and collecting (no exaggeration, I counted) over 200 ticks per mile. The trail is utterly derelict--you'd be better off picking a random line straight through the woods and following your compass. The guide, however, is excellent, and I hope it's more useful on the western parts of the trail.

Nice hike - strenuous but beautiful
We used this book to prep for a scout 50 mile backpacking trip. It has good detail and we referred to it frequently during our expedition from Ozone Campground to Moore CCC camp (which then morphed into a combination of backpacking and van supported day hikes due to the heat). This is a strenuous trail. I subtract one star because you really need to get more detailed maps to find some of the trail heads.

It is a trail guide so much of it is descriptive but I found it to be enjoyable and I like Ernst enthusiasm which comes out in his writing. I definitely am adding this trail to my list of thinkgs to do.

The book was rec'd in good order - all good.
I would liked a lower price. I feel $15 would be a better price point.Ernst added helpful hints through this edition and some GPS coordinates. Both, good ideas. As usual, the guide has a through discription of the trail.
