The Math of Hold'em

There is just a bunch of random statistics about a deck of cards that you cant use to improve your poker game, sad to say but true

Great book! To me, after reading more than 30 poker books, this one stands out as one of the most useful poker books available. It certanly worth the price!

I learned some stuff

I liked the straight forward nature of the math discussed and explained in the book. I did not like (nor need) the involved lengthy explanations and actual math problems that showed you how HE (and you could) come up with the answers to math questions relating to holdem.

Very important book in my opinion.I really believe that "the more math, the more money", cause math can really open our eyes for things that are not crystal clear from an intuitive point of view and lead us to better decision making.And I like Collins Moshman style. I've read some other books by him before and I think he really makes me learn in a solid, not volatile way.

As an aspiring hold 'em player with an advanced degree in engineering, this book presents alot of the math concepts of the game, but these concepts are very poorly explained most of the time. If you get this book, plan on spending alot of time deciphering the meaning that the authors intended -many times you will simply move on and hope that it will become clear later. There are other shortcomings of the book, for example, all the probablilites on hand strength presented apply only to two-handed betting situations where all the other players have folded, and it is not presented how drastically hand equities can change with additional players or how to adjust your play in these situations.This book does present good concepts, but could have been written much more clearly. It is hard to imagine that there isn't a better book out there on the subject.

This book has a mathematical approach to poker. It gives one new ways to think about the game and increases the things one must consider. I recommend it.

Great book. I am not a math guy, but you don't need to be with this book. It breaks things down in simple terms. It's a must read for anyone serious about learning poker.
