Bible Knowledge Commentary (2 Volume Set)

I find these excellent for helping to prepare services and having just two commentaries one for the Old Testament and one for the New Testament rather than shelves full of books

These were recommended to me as a good beginner level commentary and I've found them to be very helpful - lots of good info clearly set out. I use several study bibles and commentaries but still found extra detail in these that I'd not picked up elsewhere. A great addition.

This Bible commentary is simply the BEST! It is used extensively in the USA by Evangelical Pastors for it's clarity, accuracy and faithfulness to the Scriptures. It is modern and very easy to read - the authors (scholars) have dug into the historical usage of the original languages to convey how the modern meanings are translated for today. I love this commentary, I have many - this is my very favorite.

I bought these Commentaries to help me in my Bible Study. So far, I have used the New Testament one and it is very informative and helpful. However, today, I opened the Old Testament commentary and the hard cover has been attached to the book upside down and back to front. I opened the book and the text is upside down and beginning with the end of the book! This is very disappointing quality when I paid almost £65 for both books. I haven’t got the energy to return the item and await a replacement. The printing company needs to improve its quality control, especially when charging so much for the product.

Highly recommend this set. I have other commentaries but this one exceeds all.

A very good Bible commentary with lots of emphasis on the meaning from original Hebrew and Greek . It has some good tables,charts and maps and gives a good cultural context to the message of the Bible. Helpful to common believers and pastors in their Bible study.

Slightly damaged due to being wrapped in thin plastic, no bubble wrap nor boxed. The books are quality made; the binding, with thick paper pages. I am surprised the packaging was so flimsy.

This commentary, done by the faculty of Dallas Theological Seminary, is an excellent Bible Study resource that comes from a seminary with a reputation for outstanding teaching and conservative Bible beliefs. It is very readable for the average person, and helps me better understand the background and logic of what was written originally in languages I have no clue how to translate or read, such as Hebrew and Greek. I often just pick a book out of the Bible, and follow along in my NIV Bible and the commentary for that particular book of the Bible, and get a whole new understanding on what message God is passing along in His word. There is so much history in the Bible that I'm ignorant of, and this commentary greatly helps fill in the gaps of my Biblical knowledge when reading anything in the Old or New Testaments. On those occasions when I am asked to lead a Bible study on a particular passage, I go to this resource first to get an overall understanding of the passage and likely original intent of the words of the passage. I love the fact that the text that occurs in the NIV translation is in boldface in the commentary which helps me understand the exact passage or phrase that is being explained. I also love the explanation of some of the original words that were penned that sometimes cannot easily be translated into English in just one word. I believe this is an excellent resource for anyone doing Bible Study or wanting to know more about God's Word, and if you like the NIV translation of the Bible as I do, these books exactly parallel that translation to make it very easy to follow along not only the words that were written and translated, but the ideas that those words may have been trying to express. I love the fact that where there is some chance for interpretation of the original words, that this commentary presents scholarly thought on that and possible meanings of the original words. Because it is essentially the product of one well-regarded seminary, the product is consistent throughout in it's view of the Scriptures and conservative in its viewpoint. While many contributed to the work, it reads as if it was written by one person who had a tremendous storehouse of knowledge of the original languages and both the letter of the translation as well as likely thoughts it was trying to convey in the original languages. This is a fantastic companion to any NIV Bible and makes Bible study much more enjoyable and meaningful. No serious NIV Bible study should be without it.
