2019 BT Openreach Telephone Master Socket NTE5c MK2 & VDSL/ADSL Faceplate MK4

Product is great, just replacing the one was already in the house, easy to install, great length for the cable. Works properly.

Very good item.

Purchased one of these for a master socket move and was attracted by the inbuilt line filter. Works as described with no degradation in performance post installation and was really easy to connect up. The only issue that I have is that i had to reuse the old wall mounting bracket from the previous socket as a new on isn't included. It is worth checking if the automatic cable split function has actually worked when you place the wires into the terminals (basically you are supposed to be able to put the wires in, close the terminal and it will strip them for you). This didn't work for me and I had to manually strip the wires - after that it worked perfectly. Other than that minor critiques - love it as a product.

My old BT wires were joined at an entry box into the house and there was no way for me to isolate the external wiring from the internal. I have found that if you have a problem with your line and you call BT/Openreach then they will always charge you if they decide your wiring is at fault. If the wiring is all inter-connected then you can't prove that you are not at fault either. The beauty of a socket like this is that you can connect the two incoming wires to the rear plate and a totally independent socket is shown there and you can plug your phone into it and that is the only connected device. Any problem and then you know it is Openreach's problem. You then add the front plate which plugs into the rear and it provides a filtered internet and phone connection. You can pull other extension cable through the rear plate and connect it to the front 'AB' wiring. In effect everything is joined up as it should be, but if needs be you can isolate all internal wiring from external. One problem I stumbled upon which was bit foolish, I played with the front plate's securing backplate and it popped open. I then had a difficulty getting it all back together. Not a problem with the device more a warning not to fiddle! My phone line was noisy before I got this and at first I thought the problem was external, but after re-wiring with this and realising that an unused cable run internally was at fault, my phone now has no noisy crackles and my internet is faster and more reliable. Well worth getting one of these!!

Product does not have an installation manual but I found guidance online. I was struggling with my upload quality with work Microsoft Teams calls and was advised to upgrade my Openreach MK2 faceplate to the MK4 version. My telephone connection is not extended around my property as I don't use a landline so the installation was very simple two wires to disconnect my MK2 to the MK4. Beforehand I had been monitoring my download and upload speed for 1 week which averaged 20Mbs download and 0.3Mbs upload. Straight after the 10 min installation I had gone to 50Mbs+ download and 0.7Mbs upload. Installed for a few days now and the new speeds have been maintained. I'm really pleased with the result. A worthwhile purchase

Really good quality, British-made item as supplied to BT/Openreach. Please note that, in contrast to what some reviewers have said, you do NOT need to strip the coloured PVC insulation off the individual copper wires. The camlock connectors have "insulation displacement connectors" which bite through the plastic insulation and onto the copper wires underneath. Just open the camlock, thread the insulated wires into their respective holes, and push the camlock firmly back home again, job done! Always check that each wire is in exactly the right place before closing the camlock; it has to go in through the first hole, and its cut end needs to sit snugly in the channel at the far end too. But the camlocks are translucent, so it's pretty easy to see if you're on-track.

Old faceplate losing internet speed as faulty. Took old faceplate apart making sure noted what colour wires (2 - I have fibre broadband but if you have older wiring you may have different wiring) went where (A or B slot). Trimmed wires to get fresh wire (leaving on insulation). Open wire holder on new inner section faceplate. Slotted in wires in A or B slots and pressed wire holder down - now quickly and easily connected. Screwed faceplate onto existing backplate and all is done. (Optional - used broadband filter (usually sent by internet providers with routers) to connect router to phone slot on inner face faceplate. Checked broad band speed.) Clicked on outer new faceplate section. Connected router wire directly to internet plug on outer faceplate. Checked broadband speed and speed increased over old faceplate and inner and outer faceplate readings now match. 10-20 min change time. Sticks out a bit (see product size - 7 cm with a 3 cm existing wall bracket) so keep that in mind if it is likely to get knocked but otherwise smart. Note you will need to have an existing wall bracket already mounted but if replacing an existing faceplate should fit existing one. Must say item arrived within 2-3 working days rather than estimated 1 week so good service.
