No it is cordless and independant as it works from a chargeable battery(via the correct makita charger) works with makita 10.8v or 12v batteries.very reliable as it is makita and fully inflates 4 car tyres from flat on a single charge of 1 battery.very good idea to have 2 batteries thus 1 always fully charged.(same as tradesman would have with cordless drill)
