This reads like a a thesis
The very beginning of the book is well written and has considerable information on the formation of the company. It is Well researched. However after Walter Chrysler' s death, the author speeds everything up. The information is was widleynavailable to discuss thank eternal politics of Chrysler from 1950 through 1970, but the author's interest lagged. It is clear that his overall interest was heavily focused on the formation of the company and after the formation, the overall amount of research done was not as intense. This have the possibility and potential to be a well-written book, by providing interesting information, but the author was unable to expound upon his research. In the end, the author has a hypothesis and a thesis which he tries to validate sometimes clearly and sometimes vaguely.

I HIGHLY recommend this book for fans of Dodge and Chrysler
I bought this book by the same author of "The Dodge Brothers: The Men, the Motor Cars, and the Legacy". The Dodge Brothers: The Men, the Motor Cars, and the Legacy (Great Lakes Books Series) That book was so interesting I NEEDED to follow up with the story of Walter Chrysler's purchase of Dodge Brothers. It's an incredibly interesting book.Previous to this book I had no idea what an innovator and terrific business man Chrysler was.

Chrysler through the years
I chose a 5 star rating, because the corporation has changed so much. Chrysler Corp. has had an important part in our country's development, and it should not be forgotten. Example: In WWII, Chrysler Corp. Built airplanes and tanks of high quality. After the war, it experimented with turbo-powered (aka. jet turbine) automobiles. Now, the Plymouth name is all but forgotten.I was informed and entertained as I read this history.

Nice history of the Chrysler Corporation
Nice history of the Chrysler Corporation detailing the uneven fortunes of the company by decade. Would liked to have seen a little more detail about the development of the cars.

Not bad but...
Pretty good book, but has a couple of inaccuracies. Other than that it pretty much tells the story and makes me no longer wonder why Chrysler has always seemed to be a feast or famine car company.

A brilliant effort on a flawed company
Excellent analysis of the somewhat tortured history of Chrysler. From humble beginnings to corporate powerhouse, Professor Hyde brings to life a story on Chrysler seldom told with such rich detail. Inside you'll find facts and figures to back up Hyde's thesis. Chrysler is certainly a roller coaster, for customers, employees, and shareholders. Hyde's account is balanced and insightful and no automotive afficionado should be without this book.

Excellent book but only covers history until the take over ...
Excellent book but only covers history until the take over by Daimler. Needs to write an updated edition detailing the history since then.

And what a ride it has been
I am interested in anything that Walter Chrysler accomplished. He had a much greater influenceon the industry than most people realize. This book adds a lot to the overall picture.

Not by or for a car enthusiast
The story of the mercurial Chrysler and its equally mercurial products is indeed an exciting rollercoaster, but don't expect to ride it in this book. Plods like a dry business case study that just happens to be about a car company - references to the products and what made them so fascinating are sketchy and often ill-informed. In fact, this often seems more about Japanese cars...
