Not really what I expected for $158, crazy at over $200
I am not real thrilled with it at the moment. It requires 4C cell batteries. No problem, I'll swap that with a connector and use a LiPo battery with the onboard regulator. Wait, it is not a regulator? You're kidding? When I first powered it on, an LED lit up that was not supposed to. This indicates to me that no Quality Assurance happened at all. But being a device for the Do It Yourself crowd, I went ahead and removed the logic board so I could examine for a soldering mistake. What I found was a surprisingly sloppily designed board, where every solder joint looked like a potential problem. Tiny traces routed through others, no solder masking, resin blobs everywhere.I never found the problem, so I went to the web site as suggested in the book for warranty. The web site only has an option to register for warranty, but nothing to request an RMA for repair. So now I am waiting to see what happens next.BTW when I purchased it was $158. It is now listed at over $200. Frankly even if everything worked as it should I would put the value at about $49 tops. There are so many things they could have done; make LiPo an option. Provide simple storage for connecting wires. Put mounting points for an arduino, compact the rest of the electronics to 1/3 the size with decent circuit board design. Provide USB powering ability since 5v USB wall warts are so common now days.update: I never heard another word after 'registering' for warranty, so basically at best they make it difficult to get service. Check out gtronics dot net. They have a unit for 1/3 this price (including shipping from eu), with a ton more features. It IS intended for attached Arduinos and includes an LCD display module.
